how many of the guys pictured in this thread qualify as "grown men" tbh?

one dis leads to another (ian), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

the amazing thing about fedora dude is that he manages to pull focus from the dude in the center wearing a Nightmare Before Christmas raver hat

I mean, just ponder that

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

I am considering becoming a brony

valleys of your mind (mh), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 16:17 (fourteen years ago)

tbh i don't believe this is real.

jed_, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

after the whole d3@thdr0ne revelation I wouldn't count all of these guys as sexless

What was the "revelation"?

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

I haven't watched any of these, but Powerpuff Girls definitely had crossover appeal and in-jokes for adult audiences. There are also dudes who are really into animation stuff regardless so... this doesn't seem that odd considering the writer and context.

There has to be some sort of version of Rule 34 that also states that if there's an entertainment media, there is a group of men into it somewhere.

valleys of your mind (mh), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

that he existed and occasionally had sex. sometimes even consensual.

thank (or blame) cankles for the bronies convention pic (he posted it on the OG my little ponies thread this summer).

dan OTM about fedora dude.

der Truthahn des Giftes (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

For all of your gift giving needs: http://bronymerch.tumblr.com/

I am seriously considering sewing plush my little ponies because the bronies are willing to fork over mad cash for them.

Nicole, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 18:13 (fourteen years ago)

raver hat guy seems to be a bit of a media whore

Darin, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 20:50 (fourteen years ago)

Just imagine how disgusting the inside of that hat must be after wearing it around all day at these awesome brony events.

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

he's just happy that he's not being upstaged by Fedora Dude. Fedora Dude just abides, man.

der Truthahn des Giftes (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:21 (fourteen years ago)

"yeah yeah, you have a wacky hat with ponies glued to it; could you tell us more about the dude with the tie and fedora?"

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:24 (fourteen years ago)

"Chewing on a pen" is my favorite brony in that picture.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

I like so not gonna happen guy at the left end, in the green shirt.

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:30 (fourteen years ago)

is that j0rdan s. next to the pen-chewer?

mookieproof, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:31 (fourteen years ago)

Me too! There ought to be a poll. xp

Nicole, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:31 (fourteen years ago)

"chewing on a pen" is the only one i'd guess has ever had some stank on his hang-low.

der Truthahn des Giftes (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:31 (fourteen years ago)

Some serious underestimating at what goes on at these kind of conferences. I guarantee a scary amount of those guys have gotten some play with their fellow enthusiasts.

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:35 (fourteen years ago)

"chewing on a pen" is the only one i'd guess has ever had some stank on his hang-low.

I think you mean "sex-related stank on his hang-low" because I may be prejudging but, based on this picture, I am pretty sure a good number of the people in that picture are familiar with stank all kinds of places on their bodies

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:36 (fourteen years ago)

uh you guys are mocking a bunch of high school students

mac and me (Ówen P.), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:37 (fourteen years ago)

god forbid

max, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:37 (fourteen years ago)

I feel like I've spent my entire life mocking high school students

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:38 (fourteen years ago)

"I get older, they stay the same age."

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:39 (fourteen years ago)

yup, sex-stank on the genitalia.

and they're kind of asking for the mockery, you know ... not that i was much better when i was in high school, mind.

der Truthahn des Giftes (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:39 (fourteen years ago)

I don't know what rad shit y'all were doing age 14-17
But I wasn't doing anything more honourable than this

mac and me (Ówen P.), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:41 (fourteen years ago)

IIRC pictures of what I was doing have been posted to ILE, which mostly involved stalking the halls dressed as an extra from Degrassi High and doing the cabbage patch in my friends' kitchens

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:42 (fourteen years ago)

(should note said cabbage patch was usually to "The Days of Swine and Roses" by TKK)

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:43 (fourteen years ago)

Most of those people look pretty normal to me, aside from wacky-hat guy. The only cue I could really take to suggest that they're all the risible nerdy virgins you think they are is the fact that they're at a brony meet-up.

emil.y, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:43 (fourteen years ago)

fedora looks like he wandered into the wrong room and was too polite to leave before they took the picture; I imagine 30 seconds afterward he was all "so just to clarify, the Mad Men meetup is on the right"

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:44 (fourteen years ago)

I hope Degrassi does a brony ep

mac and me (Ówen P.), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:45 (fourteen years ago)

i was a risible nerdy virgin through the vast majority of time i was in high school ... game recognize game, yo.

fedora looks like he stepped offa a 1979 Specials EP cover.

der Truthahn des Giftes (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:46 (fourteen years ago)

is this just what furries do now? do furries still exist? is there some venn diagram overlap here? I still don't 'get' this.

iatee, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:46 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, they all seem like they'll be ok in the long run. Fedora will grow out of his suit, even. Not sure why their sex lives have anything to do with it.

RIP Wheels ;_;

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:47 (fourteen years ago)

furries are eternal, man ... or at least since "the shining"

der Truthahn des Giftes (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:47 (fourteen years ago)

there's always a fedora guy, isn't there?

I think these are just nerdy fanboys who like a cartoon. xp

carl agatha, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:48 (fourteen years ago)

I owned a fedora as a teenager. yikes! never got the courage to wear it out though

flagp∞st (dayo), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:48 (fourteen years ago)

I don't see a whole lot of difference between nerdy fanboys who like this cartoon and nerdy fanppl who like all manner of things and attend conventions about them. Right down to their penchant for silly hats.

xp I totally have a fedora pic of me from jr high.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:50 (fourteen years ago)

I desperately wanted a porkpie hat in the days of third-wave ska. Thankfully e-commerce was a little less developed and I sure as fuck wasn't going to find one locally.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:51 (fourteen years ago)

guys, I owned a fedora, a bicycle cap with the name of my German camp on it, a Dr Seuss raver hat and a green baseball cap with a cartoon mascot from a Japanese baseball team on it by the time I was TWENTY; I think I have put in my time in the bad hat trenches and am allowed to chuckle at those that came after me

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:57 (fourteen years ago)

oh, also a reversible skull cap

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:58 (fourteen years ago)

there are a lot of bronies who are not into like furry shit, but there are definitely furry bronies

max, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:58 (fourteen years ago)

I came pretty close to ordering a t-shirt with the japanese baseball player on it that the dude wore in the big lebowski

flagp∞st (dayo), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:58 (fourteen years ago)

idg reversible skull cap - does it reverse into a normal looking baseball cap or something

flagp∞st (dayo), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

like, 'oh shit some hot chicks are coming by - quick, before they see me!' *reverses skull cap*

This idea of what counts as political and what doesn’t is another thing the fandom took from 4chan—where racial slurs are just jokes but anti-racism makes you a “social justice warrior.”
A good summary of why "fuck 4chan and everything associated with it" is the correct policy.

Federal agents in Moscow have raided and ended a My Little Pony convention on the grounds that it constituted "gay propaganda." Even painting the animal's mane in the Russian tricolor couldn't save this one. https://t.co/KIv00sKoeN pic.twitter.com/p68hiFCmWm

mookieproof, Saturday, 17 February 2024 17:47 (two years ago)

just to be clear a lot of those "grown men" who were into MLP did in fact turn out to be women because, you know, There Were No Signs. i guess when russia is raiding MLP conventions for spreading "gay propaganda" that's pretty obvious but i do want to say it for the record.

i got a friend who writes genuinely actually good MLP fanfiction. people shit-talk fan-fiction but i respect people who do it well. it's really hard to capture the voice of a character when it's not your character. it's also a good way of getting your writing actually read - people want to read stories about characters they're already invested in. i've tried to write fanfiction occasionally but i'm never really satisfied with the results. (yes i do hold my writing to an unreasonably high standard.)
