It's a dorm room, no expectation of privacy, right, of course watching your roommate via webcam is totally normal

it's why so many universities are doing away with dorm rooms altogether and having students sleep in dining halls

what is "homosexualist" a dog whistle for?

i mean other than "homosexual"

― caek, Wednesday, February 22, 2012 10:49 AM (32 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

I heard "homosexualists" a lot when in 2002 Miami-Dade County tried to pass a bill protecting the rights of homosexuals. It's used to distinguish those who are politically active from, er, those who aren't?

nah. homosexualists, darwinists, mohamedists, maryolatrists; etc. On par with democrat party. Just a way to change a name to make it seem sinister, denoting an agenda, and trying to take away from the subject the power that comes from self-naming. Really just name-calling without much thought to it. It's kind of a defined pattern and it's done instinctually these days by rightists

First saw that term when Dave Sim went off the rails and started writing about the "feminist-homosexualist axis"

Imagine being cooped up on a boat with Breitbart after the election. I'm pretty much calling a messy death on the first night and the final evening before docking Hercule Poirot sits down everyone else to explain who was the killer.

I will bet there will be some heavy bourbon and oxycontin usage.

according to the article, ravi also refused a plea bargain that would have meant no jail time or deportation. would be nice to see derb mention that.

symsymsym, Thursday, 23 February 2012 19:32 (fourteen years ago)

Nobody in the comments disputing the theory that Clementi "kicked" Ravi out of the room – one going so far as to warn parents of the perfidy to which their "children" would be exposed if they had a college experience.

Obama’s Apologies
By Mario Loyola

So the president refuses to apologize for forcing Catholics to violate their religious beliefs or pay a tax penalty.

But he immediately apologizes because a few of our soldiers inadvertently violated Muslims religious beliefs by trying to dispose of already-desecrated Korans.

Well, despite his apology, hoardes of semi-barbarian Afghans went on a rampage, burned Obama in dog-head effigy, and killed several of our soldiers.

And if you think that’s bad, just imagine what they would do if Obama adopted a rule forcing Muslims to violate their religious beliefs or pay a tax penalty.

Wow, that's sounds exactly like someone who's an infantilized, emotionally underdeveloped person who never actually built a self, so that any admission of wrongdoing by themselves or folks in power is the absolute worst possible thing that could happen, as that could wreck the fragile system of God-granted hierarchy and unquestioning obedience/submission they have as excuses for moral systems.

I would tell Jonah Goldberg to go fuck himself, but clearly that's the only way he's getting any hence his bitterness.

Nicole, Monday, 27 February 2012 15:25 (fourteen years ago)

Nice little demonstration tho; the animus motivating the outlawing of contraception/abortion/etc is based in punishing someone who's trying to get away with something bad. Any sort of fetal/child explanation is conscious rationalization of an idiotic emotional decision.

It's cute when the horrible authoritarian thinking pokes its head thru the veil.

Spleen of Hearts (kingfish), Monday, 27 February 2012 21:24 (fourteen years ago)

My town councilman has beer pong as one of his interests. He also likes The Grateful Dead, the Beatles, Bob Marley, Bill O'Reilly, Michele Bachman, Don't Build the Mosque at Ground Zero, and The Tea Party. Maybe he should be friend with Jonah Goldberg. I give him the stink eye whenever I see him in the local deli.

Learnin’ the Lingo
By Jay Nordlinger
February 28, 2012 8:58 P.M.

I see from one of Kate’s posts below that Mitt is going populist, trying to speak the language of the conservative street: He’s using “Democrat” as an adjective, as in, “The Obama people, the UAW, and Rick Santorum are calling Democrat homes . . .” Bob Dole was a master of this. Who can forget him in the 1976 vice-presidential debate talking about “Democrat wars”? (In fairness, he was retaliating against Mondale’s charges of “Republican recessions.”)

I wonder how long it took Romney to train himself to use “Democrat” in this fashion. And I wonder how long it will take him to drop it, if he wins the nomination. “Democrat homes” is for primary season.

If he really wants to learn to speak conservative, I’m sure that many of us would be glad to introduce him to the basic lexicon. “Repeat after me, Governor: ‘Implement Beck!’”

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 02:08 (fourteen years ago)

wait Bob Dole was vice-president?

Dole was Ford's VP choice in 1976.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 02:36 (fourteen years ago)

xp

Bob Dole was Ford's VP pick when he ran for prez. His actual veep was Nelson Rockefeller, who was appointed when Agnew resigned in disgrace - for a scandal completely different from Watergate.
