I think the food I made (homemade) yesterday ended up being close to a salt lick as far as sodium content. I might see if I can make more rice/vegetables and blend it in.

valleys of your mind (mh), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 14:48 (fourteen years ago)

i usually end up throwing a bunch of other veg into any of their rices to try to cut it a bit - makes a better meal and you eat less of the sodium rice.

tehresa, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

Also: what do I do with this coconut oil?

Use it like any cooking fat. Sub 1:1 for butter/crisco in baking. I like the flavor, so use it for stir-fries etc especially with pork. But it doesn't go well with garlic/onions imo.

their chicken broth sux

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:39 (fourteen years ago)

Today I am snacking on radish wedges dipped straight into the smoked salt, so I know from sodium.

their soy chorizo is quietly remarkable

desperado, rough rider (thomp), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:12 (fourteen years ago)

You KNOW, you're right! I had it at a taco-making party, served by a real Mexican woman (my friend Laura) who is vegetarian and LOVES it and she was right, too!

I like to mix it up in a rice dish with corn, peas, various chiles, frozen gandules, w/e.
also good in tortillas/frittatas/egg dishes

trader joe's soyrizo is pretty much an a+ product

valleys of your mind (mh), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:37 (fourteen years ago)

Are those just the thin seaweed pieces? I had issues with those.

Yeah. I had no such issues. I ate the whole package in like five seconds (which isn't difficult).

This exact thing is an all-time snack in our house.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:49 (fourteen years ago)

nthing the soyrizo love. i like making breakfast burritos with it.

popcorn (get bent), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 04:14 (fourteen years ago)

I am here to recommend the frozen proof-while-you-sleep mini (not chocolate) croissants. Holy crap are they good. Croissants are expensive too, so I am glad to know that if I want one, I can get EIGHT and bake them in my own oven.

You can trust me on this because I don't eat shitty croissants and also I just gobbled two (2) of these, so the memory is flaky, buttery, and fresh.

O snap I just did this yday! On the (not amazing but still p tasty) habanero lime tortillas, w eggs and beans and mexi cheese and (not at all great) roasted garlic salsa

Has anyone taste tested the soy milks? They have the quart carton, the half gallon shelf stable "extra", and then the refrig

I like their unsweetened soy milks - cheap, too.

The stuff in sachets? Yes it does.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Saturday, 25 February 2012 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

Can't speak to soy milks but their rice milk is good. Probably private labeled Rice Dream, imo.

carl agatha, Saturday, 25 February 2012 17:23 (fourteen years ago)

i get their refrigerated unsweetened soy milk all the time. the shelf stable stuff is good, too.

tehresa, Saturday, 25 February 2012 18:18 (fourteen years ago)

I get vanilla and I like the shelf stable purple carton. The almond milk is not good, sadly

I have one thing to say: "Roxanne Shanté" (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 25 February 2012 20:09 (fourteen years ago)

jordan loves the almond milk!

just1n3, Saturday, 25 February 2012 20:17 (fourteen years ago)

Oh they have coconut milk, too, and it makes me wildly nauseated. I don't normally have a problem with coconut or coconut products so I have no idea what that's all about.

carl agatha, Saturday, 25 February 2012 21:24 (fourteen years ago)

xp I got the chocolateluscious did not have the luscious chocolate-covered almond flavor of Almond Breeze

I have one thing to say: "Roxanne Shanté" (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 25 February 2012 21:28 (fourteen years ago)

is that the brown-box one? he likes that.

just1n3, Saturday, 25 February 2012 21:30 (fourteen years ago)

Oh good. I grabbed a pack on impulse tonight.

Alas, I too had issues with them. The texture was one that I hate.

Oh well, I'll crumble them into some miso soup.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Saturday, 25 February 2012 22:06 (fourteen years ago)

i love those!

tehresa, Saturday, 25 February 2012 22:40 (fourteen years ago)

The Italian beer Apechio is good ($3 for 1/2 litre). Usually not impressed with Italy in this regard.

nickn, Saturday, 25 February 2012 23:26 (fourteen years ago)

I use the boxed "Soy Essentials" soymilk on cereal on the regular.

two weeks pass...

local tj's selling "irish bangers" this week
not bad, not real authentic but tasty enough

buzza, Thursday, 15 March 2012 07:43 (fourteen years ago)

sipping a mug of tj's dark roast coffee right now. it's perfectly acceptable, better than their (bland) medium roast but not good enough to become my go-to

Roasted vegetable pizza. Much better than I expected, for a pizza with no cheese. Definitely not a meal pizza, more like a snack pizza.

Jeff, Saturday, 17 March 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

Has anyone tried the Kim Chi Fried Rice? I'm curious as to how spicy it is.

benernienie taumaupin (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 25 March 2012 06:06 (fourteen years ago)

That had little samples the other day and it was pretty yummy. It wasn't exceptionally spicy. I didn't buy a bag because I know I would just eat the whole thing by myself in one sitting.

breaded chickenless nuggets are oily but a good sauce delivery protein vehicle

was the TJ branded vintage ale mentioned upthread? tasty, wonder if anybody will actually buy it and let it age a few years before drinking.

dayo, Sunday, 25 March 2012 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

Just made this kimchee fried rice, better than the TJ's stuff imo.

Marilyn Hagerty: the terroir of tiny town (Abbbottt), Sunday, 25 March 2012 18:32 (fourteen years ago)

You get PAN CRISPINESS

Marilyn Hagerty: the terroir of tiny town (Abbbottt), Sunday, 25 March 2012 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

I don't understand why TJ's doesn't just get a good coffee producer to make like one decent blend for them. IDK, Jim's Organic, Larry's, someone who makes good coffee but isn't as trendy right now as Stumptown and Intelligentsia. I'd pay more for it, even regular high-end coffee price, just to have it as a one-stop-shopping thing and not have to go somewhere else every time I need beans.

The dark chocolate candy bar w/speculoos butter is YUMMY. Even though I *still* can't stop thinking that it sounds like it's made of ground speculums.

REMAINDERED ICE TREATS ALERT
if you enjoy mango chile fruit floes, they are now 49cents for a pack of four (regularly $2)
i don't even like em that much but it's 49 cents so i got like three, and even though the chile adds a strong spice,
you know what's a stronger spice? BARGAIN.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 23:48 (fourteen years ago)

If I see them that cheap, I'll probably just buy a stand alone freezer so I can fill it up with them.

Jeff, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 00:23 (fourteen years ago)

pretty much hate you guys for putting the idea of the thai chili lime peanuts in my head because:
1. they are delicious
2. they are 180 calories per serving
3. there are 15 (!!) servings per bag?

mh, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 03:02 (fourteen years ago)

CASHEWS, I mean.

mh, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 03:03 (fourteen years ago)

oh yeah no i can't have those things around

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 03:03 (fourteen years ago)

I have like two beers and want to go into bodily combat with the bag and rip it open and eat them all

mh, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 03:07 (fourteen years ago)

literally the exact experience i had with them

I'm still enjoying the frozen rise-overnight croissants a lot. They're delicious for tiny frozen croissants.

Mango cream bars are good. But very tiny.

Jeff, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 03:46 (fourteen years ago)
