I support bringing Brian McDermott to the EPL.

On the other hand faced with Bruce as favourite I'd be happy if Osama bin Laden turned up alive and available for interview.

Scott Dann has described rupturing his testicle as 'more painful than it sounds'.

mizzell, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

tbf I'm not sure how much noise rupturing a testicle makes

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 16:16 (fourteen years ago)

I'd guess it would go "splorch"

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

THEO WALCOTT has emerged as a shock target for Chelsea.

And the Arsenal and England winger could even be in line for a shock swap with Stamford Bridge striker Daniel Sturridge.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 11:45 (fourteen years ago)

which club has the better clash of deckchairs tho?

pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 11:46 (fourteen years ago)

I mean it's clearly bollocks, even AVB isn't deluded enough to believe that shipping out top scorer Sturridge in favour of Theo Walcott is the way to rejoin Europe's elite.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 11:46 (fourteen years ago)

clash=class. ffs

pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 11:46 (fourteen years ago)

sturridge, mata, romeu, ramires are the 4 players I'm pretty sure AVB actually wants. Meireles, Luiz, Cahill will stick around. After that I'm not too sure.

pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 11:48 (fourteen years ago)

Doubt he's that crazy about Luiz but who would buy him given the amount Chelsea forked out? Suspect that ABV publically calling for the owner to voice his support is some 'lady if you have to ask' shit.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 11:54 (fourteen years ago)

^ this, even tho I think Sturridge is overrated

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 11:56 (fourteen years ago)

i find myself rooting ever more strongly for avb the more balls-out his moves against the old guard get

beware of greek bearer bonds (darraghmac), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 11:56 (fourteen years ago)

I think he's well into cutting off his nose to spite his face territory now though.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 11:56 (fourteen years ago)

maybe so, last night, but i'm all for it

beware of greek bearer bonds (darraghmac), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 11:58 (fourteen years ago)

By the way, Big Sam top of the Championship just in case 'Arry turns down the England job

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 12:00 (fourteen years ago)

You see I'd say that on current form alone Ashley Cole deserved to be dropped, the trouble is that the only alternative is Boss Winger playing out of position, which is an indictment of the squad tbh.

pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 12:01 (fourteen years ago)

is this just a fairly typical team in transition thing (ie. wtf are people expecting, give avb time etc), or do 'the old guard' not trust him and are they really that much of a problem? the old guard being terry, lampard, cole, who else?

Chris, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 12:41 (fourteen years ago)

Perfect storm of impossible factors - capricious and possibly interfering owner, massive failed transfers, over-mighty and ageing playing staff who don't seem to accept they're past their best, lack of sufficient quality replacements, years of poor recruitment policies coming home to roost - that he's not really making the best of. But I'm not sure anyone could make a decent fist of managing Chelsea right now, would be interesting to see what he can do with an entire summer's worth of transfers under his belt, but there seems to be a mutual collapse of trust.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 12:54 (fourteen years ago)

it's the first kind of exacerbated by the second tho surely abramovich realises he's got to back a manager vs these guys sometime

beware of greek bearer bonds (darraghmac), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 12:56 (fourteen years ago)

i thought the friction between manager and senior players was precisely because Abramovich had brought in a manager to usher out the old guard.

pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 13:03 (fourteen years ago)

I assumed that was kind of AVB's remit.

pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 13:03 (fourteen years ago)

It was a neat touch of Roman's that the manager looks younger than a lot of his player

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 13:06 (fourteen years ago)

Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Cech is the old guard, which I think means senior players with the nerve to fuck things up for avb/Scolari/whoever. Cole is less of a strong personality I think.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 13:22 (fourteen years ago)

Shame Pete doesn't post anymore. he might have been able to cut through some of the bullshit and let us know the deal.

pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 13:42 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, he's my most-missed

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 13:43 (fourteen years ago)

This is weird and annoying

pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:12 (fourteen years ago)

Number None, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:15 (fourteen years ago)

pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:15 (fourteen years ago)

tbh

missing a utd norwich game hardly seems a great loss

beware of greek bearer bonds (darraghmac), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:16 (fourteen years ago)

I won't be missing it

Number None, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:16 (fourteen years ago)

Real Fan 2012. This has mutated from follow the team home and away from when I were a lad to track down a stream no matter how crappy and suffer through blurry pictures, freezing screens and incomprehensible commentary.

Or Sopcast for the sophisticates among us.

pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

LOL the Wolves

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:39 (fourteen years ago)

Curbishley's just a lazy arse, he'll never manage a club again.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:41 (fourteen years ago)

Looks like Bruce is simultaneously last-choice and favourite.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

At some point soon McCarthy'll come back onto the radar.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

Being turned down twice by Alan Curbishley, that's gotta sting

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:46 (fourteen years ago)

just catching up on motd from a couple of weeks ago. david n'gog's turn and pass to myachi was gorgeous. he's looking a hell of a player, wish we'd kept him.

Chris, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

Morgan out. This is a fucking farce.

Curbishley might be too lazy but we're too fucking cheap, must've been difficult to resist the lure of a 13 week contract and a Raise the Titanic mission.

contreatable logorrhea (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:49 (fourteen years ago)

Unpleasant as the Suarez/Evra affair was, this has got to mark the low point of the season

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

don't rate him? always thought he had the raw ingredients to be a top player - excellent close control, can hold it up, good awareness, drags players out of position, comfortable with both feet, very skillful (seen some genuine laugh out loud touches from him this season alone), and can create for others and himself. lovely poise and elegance about him too. meant to comment on him after the everton game recently - put through on goal and he somehow shifts his weight on to his left foot to control it and get a shot in early. seems to have a good brain for his age.

Chris, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

i think he's okay but I'm much happier with Bellamy even if it only lasts a couple of seasons tbh

pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

oh yeah bellamy's great. just think ngog's closer to the type of target man i'd like to see us building the team around than say andy carroll.

Chris, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 17:54 (fourteen years ago)

I dunno, he looked alright for us I guess, but wunderkinder apart you can never tell whether they're going to kick on until they do. Pongolle, Cheyrou, Le Tallec, El Zhar - I wouldn't've said he was ever obviously a class apart from those guys.

My despair is more - we've only just sold him, for not very much, presumably not for bumper wages either. Of course he's going to suddenly become Raul, recently we've had Kuyt up front on his own at times ffs.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 18:06 (fourteen years ago)

true wrt not knowing just how good kids can be. felt he showed much more on a consistent basis than the likes pongolle and le tallec though. real class and composure in high pressure games too, played and scored in the champions league, and that 2nd against man utd at anfield in front of the kop took some guts. not got the figures on me but he had an impressive goals per minute ratio too if i remember correctly. glad to see him doing well anyway, always had a soft spot for him.

incidentally i was at bruno cheyrou's anfield debut against lazio in a pre-season friendly in 2002, the ONE game where he actually did live up to the next zidane hype. seriously amazing.

Chris, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

Leaving it a bit late isn't he? Two goals all season for Bolton isn't exactly going great guns.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 19:00 (fourteen years ago)

could do with more goals aye, generally impressive though. obv when i said i'm glad he's doing well i should've added "as good as can be expected in this bolton team!" he holds it up as well as carroll and already has more strings to his bow.

how good's steven fletcher? saw his clear cut chance coversion stats recently and he's up there with the best in the league. seems to be more than just a goal poacher too.
