It's kind of disturbing in movies when really young kids are really distressed. Like when they're obviously no older than 4 years old and they're frrrreaking the fuck out - it doesn't seem possible that they could be acting so convincingly hysterical, panicked, and terrified.

I just saw the movie Red State, where there was a scene w/ a bunch of kids in a besieged religious commune being told by a bloodied woman w/ a gun that government agents wanted to kill them. All the kids were crying and acting afraid, but one little girl who looked 2-3 or maybe 4 was screaming her head off, thrashing in the arms of the woman who was holding her. She sounded like an animal being tortured, and it was too real to be child acting.

Infants don't need an excuse to lose their shit (I often wonder if someone pinches infant actors to get them to cry) and older kids can lose themselves in their character's feelings, but what do they do to get some toddlers to be so out of their minds w/ angst and horror?

btw, But not if it might get you I subscribed from the emails. was supposed to say "unsubscribed" not "I subscribed" - thumb typing/auto-correct problem there.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Monday, 20 February 2012 02:50 (fourteen years ago)

n/a do you know approximate start times for your show/set 2nite?

long duk dan (dan m), Monday, 20 February 2012 15:14 (fourteen years ago)

i can't believe i missed the chili cook-off synth party AGAIN
it was last night ;_;

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Monday, 20 February 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

I believe the show starts at 8 and we're playing first. We're playing in Logan Square again in March with some cool people if you don't make it tonight.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 20 February 2012 17:29 (fourteen years ago)

oh starts at 9 tonight not 8

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 20 February 2012 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

the music space at the burlington is surprisingly nice. they have a little room in the back that's maybe about the size of the music room at the hideout or maybe a little smaller, with a good PA. lead singer from the ponys was doing sound last night. don't know why they don't have more/better shows there.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 16:39 (fourteen years ago)

How did it go?

carl agatha, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

I really liked the Burlington the one time I was there, but I had no idea there was a back room.

Ascot Fitzgerald (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

show was good. best on-stage sound we've had, which helps a lot.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 17:09 (fourteen years ago)

Yay! I'm glad!

I should have come out, as much sleep as I got last night.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

Ugh, if this #lightscape installation on State street means getting U2 blasted at me while I walk down the street all March then count me out.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 21:28 (fourteen years ago)

i always wonder about this building when my train passes it on the way home:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=10+e.+lake+chicago&hl=en&ll=41.885753,-87.62735&spn=0.004489,0.005836&sll=41.886073,-87.627375&layer=c&cbp=13,3.08,,0,4.95&cbll=41.885754,-87.627175&gl=us&hnear=10+E+Lake+St,+Chicago,+Illinois+60601&t=m&z=17&iwloc=A&panoid=JMg1ElK0wyCpG1fM2FE9BA
it's so little and dumpy and looks to be closed up but it's right in the middle of the loop, right by clark/lake. so weird.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 22:55 (fourteen years ago)

Per my fake research, it may be a comed substation?

carl agatha, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:04 (fourteen years ago)

i’ve always been fascinated by that building too! still prefer to think it’s the headquarters of a secret society

1staethyr, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:10 (fourteen years ago)

well, i'm sure the substation is only a cover for the masonic temple buried underneath it

all i can think to play is guns and war (askance johnson), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:12 (fourteen years ago)

thank god

1staethyr, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:13 (fourteen years ago)

It's the entrance to Rahm E's secret underground lair.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:13 (fourteen years ago)

It's HQ for all of his shadow organizations.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:32 (fourteen years ago)

Rahm's Diabolical Basement sounded weird so they just left it as is

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:33 (fourteen years ago)

i heard filene’s was also originally going to be called filene’s diabolical basement

1staethyr, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:51 (fourteen years ago)

Filene's Shit Dungeon was "too much"

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 23 February 2012 00:00 (fourteen years ago)

"Brand names at basement prices, you pigs."

carl agatha, Thursday, 23 February 2012 00:10 (fourteen years ago)

"You're all worthless and weak; here are some bargains" didn't focus group well so

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 23 February 2012 00:18 (fourteen years ago)

that building is where the pigeons huddle together in the winter

Wild Flag Post (dan m), Thursday, 23 February 2012 01:03 (fourteen years ago)

No, that's the shelter at the Clark and Lake El stop.

I just got into an argument with a coworker who claimed that The Dark Half was a much better movie than The Shining because it is more believable. I normally don't argue about these kinds of things but COME ON.

He then went on to say that he believes there will be a zombie outbreak in our lifetimes because of scientists messing around with viruses. He's very religious and subscribes to an extremely literal Christian eschatology (if you can wring some literal sense out of Revelation, then more power to you, I guess) so he was not just fucking with me. He's told me all about how the world will be naught but concrete with no grass anywhere, and how he's sorry that I won't be in heaven when it happens.

carl agatha, Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

omg did you type that with your thumbs?

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

(aside from the obvious thing, which is wtf at your cow orker)

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

Nope. I used the big internet for that one.

carl agatha, Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

FTR I'm more appalled at his opinions on The Dark Half than I am about his Armageddonophilia.

carl agatha, Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

i am appalled at his people skills, not his beliefs necessarily

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

He's not the first coworker to lament my hellbound status right to my face. I don't even go around squawking about being an atheist or anything. The most I'll say out loud is that I'm not religious (and only then in response to people asking me where I go to church or whether I'll go to bible study with them or something), and I make a real effort to be neutral and respectful if people want to talk about religion at work, but I guess something about me just screams "I AM QUIETLY MOCKING YOUR FAITH."

carl agatha, Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:38 (fourteen years ago)

That's awful!
I have been mocked openly for having a dog instead of kids on more than one occasion though.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:39 (fourteen years ago)

As far as wtf are you actually saying this to me stuff goes, that's pretty tame, but still

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:40 (fourteen years ago)

FTR I'm more appalled at his opinions on The Dark Half than I am about his Armageddonophilia.

otm. it's (unfortunately) totally believable that a dude would go crazy and try to kill his family.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

huh that came out creepier than i intended. note: i am not planning to kill my family.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

What did one of my coworkers say to me the other day... Oh! Out of the clear blue sky, at the water cooler even, she asked me 1) how old I was; 2) whether I had kids (and then went on to say that I look so young because I don't have kids); 3) if I was an attorney; and, most puzzlingly, 4) if I had a business on the side other than my full-time job, not necessarily being an attorney, but doing anything, how much money would I expect to make in a year?

Mocking anyone for their choice to have or not have children is a shitty and judgmental thing to do, IMO.

xp LOL

Well, he clarified that he found The Shining unrealistic because Wendy didn't leave the Overlook as soon as Jack started acting weird, which was not even worth debating, frankly.

carl agatha, Thursday, 23 February 2012 15:49 (fourteen years ago)

Was that a mole? An undercover agent? A turncoat?
