jaymc, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:42 (fourteen years ago)

me too, of course. although tonight i have to go program some brostep basslines for a friend who runs a competitive high school drumline. apparently they can use synthesizers now.

Lol I read all posts since Dan's pic thinking this was the secretly fascist thread. Makes more sense to me now.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:48 (fourteen years ago)

the little bits of skrillex i've heard sounded alright. pretty simplistic but i get the appeal, it's basically like a boilerplate loud-quiet-loud alternative rock song but played on synths

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 16:41 (fourteen years ago)

there are some really nice pop hooks in there too, which are really what set him apart from everyone else doing big aggro drops.

long duk dan (dan m), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 16:58 (fourteen years ago)

It… it is blown.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 17:09 (fourteen years ago)

Kr and I were gonna go to Jay-Z- and Beyonce-approved Great Lake Pizza tonight, but apparently it is closed on Tues. :/

jaymc, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

we stayed right across the street from there on friday

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

Great Lake's the bomb. Just follow the Hot Doug's/Schwa/Alinea protocols and play by their rules.

‘Neuroscience’ and ‘near death’ pepper (Eazy), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:01 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, we've had it before, so we were looking forward to it. I think we're just going to go to Hopleaf instead and hope it's not too crowded.

jaymc, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

In Fine Spirits!

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:07 (fourteen years ago)

Not a bad idea, but I think they're doing a special Valentine's Day prix-fixe tonight.

jaymc, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:11 (fourteen years ago)

hey where is the massive new loop cvs you guys were talking about?

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

no plans for tonight but we have a reservation for Yusho tomorrow

long duk dan (dan m), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

for all of my yakking about romance, i don't really celebrate valentine's day

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:17 (fourteen years ago)

we're not doing anything special today tomorrow or yesterday

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:17 (fourteen years ago)

yeah I should say our plans for tomorrow are not really vday related, just the best opportunity for our dinner companions to get a sitter and escape their 11 month old for a while

long duk dan (dan m), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:19 (fourteen years ago)

For us, it's mostly just an excuse to go out for a low-key weeknight date. Nothing candle-lit or rose-petaled, and no stuffed animals or Mylar balloons.

jaymc, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

we do a low-key v day as well - our tradition is to make cupcakes (which we did in springfield this past weekend) - tonight we're making dinner and dessert and we'll probably watch a movie or something.

but friday is our first ever date where we'll be hiring a paid babysitter to watch evie. i think we're going to go to the bar/pie place on lincoln to eat pie and drink.

there's a new bar/pizza place around the corner from my house. their website isn't updated yet though. they just opened on sunday: http://brickschicago.com/BigBricks/

It's a Walgreens. State and Randolph in the same building as the Joffrey Ballet.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

Oh! There's a Bricks on Lincoln and Armitage with a basement entrance that does not look like a place where you should be going. Their pizza is really good. I'm glad that the Big Bricks is open now.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

no v-day plans here either, just our regular tuesday night potluck with friends.

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

Jeff's in Houston (and I think he might have been traveling this time last year, too) but even if he weren't, the day would likely pass by unremarked.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, Big Bricks looks like it could be good.

Correct.

Jeff, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 20:21 (fourteen years ago)

This will be the third v day in a row where we have stayed home and made a recipe called "hot date with a chicken". A tradition is born.

the glass of beer (askance johnson), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 20:22 (fourteen years ago)

please elaborate

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/hot-date-with-a-chicken/

long duk dan (dan m), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 20:33 (fourteen years ago)

that is, in fact, the recipe.

the glass of beer (askance johnson), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 20:45 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't know until recently that you can't copyright recipes, so like every one ever is available online

long duk dan (dan m), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 20:49 (fourteen years ago)

somehow the fact that you can't copyright recipes was one of the first things I learned in library school.

the glass of beer (askance johnson), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 20:58 (fourteen years ago)

I had no idea. I guess this is why people can reproduce Cook's Illustrated recipes on 1,000,000 internet blogs.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 21:00 (fourteen years ago)

you can't copyright recipes only secret ingredients

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 21:05 (fourteen years ago)

you can't copyright ... a feeling

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 21:30 (fourteen years ago)

iirc you can borrow one though
