Yep, also known as "El Guapo".

yep he did one of the most accomplished birthday beer bottle solos we've had

I am at a flower shop in the sears tower where Rollins in the Dep is playing.

Let the record reflect this is the evidence deposition taken of Henry Rollins in the matter of Rollins v. Danzig on this 13th day of February, 2012.
― carl agatha, Monday, 13 February 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)
xps to jordan dude's actually a pretty accomplished musician, he plays trumpet in at least one competition-style marching/drill band

...but Danzig 4 lyfe
― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Monday, 13 February 2012 20:22 (fourteen years ago)
I learned today that Henry Rollins won the Grammy for best spoken word album in 1994.
― jaymc, Monday, 13 February 2012 20:26 (fourteen years ago)
Kind of weird company to be in, when you think about it: Three U.S. presidents have won the category, and both the year before and after Rollins won, it was awarded to Maya Angelou.
― jaymc, Monday, 13 February 2012 20:30 (fourteen years ago)
wow that is weird
― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Monday, 13 February 2012 20:31 (fourteen years ago)

was that from when henry rollins was in red hot chili peppers?
― congratulations (n/a), Monday, 13 February 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)
i have no idea but apparently it is his birthday today and one of my fb friends who always posts hot pictures of famous people on their birthdays posted it
― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Monday, 13 February 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)
My dad called me this morning and said that "the guy from the Foo Fighters" looked like "the guy from the Chili Peppers" "except with a shirt on."
― jaymc, Monday, 13 February 2012 20:37 (fourteen years ago)
Then he hung up.
ha ha
― congratulations (n/a), Monday, 13 February 2012 20:39 (fourteen years ago)
didn't he call you once to talk about beyonce?
― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Monday, 13 February 2012 20:39 (fourteen years ago)
jen kirkman did a good job of trolling people on twitter by pretending like she didn't think the dave grohl of nirvana and the dave grohl of the foo fighters were the same person.
― congratulations (n/a), Monday, 13 February 2012 20:40 (fourteen years ago)
Maybe! I don't remember.
I was just kidding, though -- he called this morning about something else, but he often likes to engage in some warm-up patter.
― jaymc, Monday, 13 February 2012 20:46 (fourteen years ago)
I have never knowingly heard Adele.
― tanuki, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 02:44 (fourteen years ago)
I have never knowingly heard Skrillex. I'm waiting.

I looked up skrillex on youtube once, just to hear what the kids are into. I don't know if I'm just lol old or what, but it seemed like garbage to me.

I've liked the skrillilxx I've heard.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 12:26 (fourteen years ago)
I do try hard not to dislike him just because Kids These Days*, but mostly I find dubstep in general too noisy and annoying. LOLOLD. I see the appeal of Skrillex specifically more than I do of most dubstep.
*I like deadmau5 despite my best efforts to the contrary.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 13:24 (fourteen years ago)
I also don't think it's that OMG! that people of a certain age wouldn't know who Paul McCartney is. He hasn't done anything noteworthy in years and years that anybody other than Dad Rockers or the same people who still buy Roger Waters solo albums care about. Yes, there was the Beatles but if your parents didn't listen to the Beatles, and you didn't take it upon yourself to listen to oldies or classic rock stations, how would you care enough about them to find out who the band members are?
I mean, holy shit, if you were to say to me right now, "carl agatha, would you rather go see Paul McCartney or Lil B The Based God in concert right now?" I would pick THE BASED GOD without thinking twice and I did grow up liking and revering The Beatles.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 13:32 (fourteen years ago)
Actually, wait. Lil B probably wouldn't go on until after 11. I would probably just chose to stay home.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 13:34 (fourteen years ago)
http://www.suntimes.com/10626363-417/flaming-hot-chips-gum-other-infractions-costly-at-some-schools.html
I'm going to take the controversial stance that charging students monetary fines for disciplinary infractions is straight bullshit.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 13:44 (fourteen years ago)
idk the paul mac thing does bespeak a pretty high level of cultural ignorance
― tanuki, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 13:53 (fourteen years ago)
I agree, but I'm also not surprised.
I would see Paul McCartney instead of Lil B because I only know about the latter as an ILX punchline. I'm sure his music is lovely.
I am still confused as to how Skrillex and Burial are both dubstep.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:11 (fourteen years ago)
Sure, but of whose culture?
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:15 (fourteen years ago)
I just don't think Paul McCartney is culturally relevant anymore. I'm not sure the Beatles are either.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:17 (fourteen years ago)
point, I've never knowingly heard Lil B so there you go
― tanuki, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:18 (fourteen years ago)
I just really hate young people tbh
― tanuki, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:21 (fourteen years ago)
there are...two dubsteps
― the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:28 (fourteen years ago)
Haha me too but I bet lots of my students wouldn't know who Paul McCartney is and they are a bright and lovely lot so I feel defensive of young ppl who aren't familiar with elderly rock stars.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:33 (fourteen years ago)
super reductive dubstep primer for jaymc:
it started off with uk stuff basically like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMR5K2QWfJk
and then branched off into strains that either prized the atmosphere (like burial, zomby, etc) or the crazy lfo modulation (rusko and then everyone in the u.s.). and now it's all a post-everything bass music stew (or it's brostep).
― the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:37 (fourteen years ago)
Ah, that makes sense. Thx! I obv. like the atmospheric stuff better.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:42 (fourteen years ago)
me too, of course. although tonight i have to go program some brostep basslines for a friend who runs a competitive high school drumline. apparently they can use synthesizers now.
― the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:45 (fourteen years ago)
Lol I read all posts since Dan's pic thinking this was the secretly fascist thread. Makes more sense to me now.
― garbage corn fan (Je55e), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 14:48 (fourteen years ago)
the little bits of skrillex i've heard sounded alright. pretty simplistic but i get the appeal, it's basically like a boilerplate loud-quiet-loud alternative rock song but played on synths
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 16:41 (fourteen years ago)
there are some really nice pop hooks in there too, which are really what set him apart from everyone else doing big aggro drops.
― the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 16:49 (fourteen years ago)
