Throughout this depressing saga, Dalglish has promoted a sense of paranoia, a feeling that the club have been hard done-by, ill-used, savagely put-upon. He has conjured the notion of a vast conspiracy directed at Liverpool, without ever explaining the logic or the motives behind such a movement.

... this is the guy who tried (was forced into) managing Celtic for the best part of a season, think that explains a lot

he behaved like a bar-room bully

Bollocks. Dalglish just isn't the type... unlike Ferguson.

now the sickening dread at the prospect of Bruce can begin

Sylv_ebanks (DJ Mencap), Monday, 13 February 2012 11:21 (fourteen years ago)

that steve bruce is never that far way from a premier league job is disproportionately depressing to me.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 13 February 2012 11:25 (fourteen years ago)

not as depressing as it is to me right now

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 11:26 (fourteen years ago)

but surely not?

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 11:26 (fourteen years ago)

surely, tbh

Dr Frogbius (darraghmac), Monday, 13 February 2012 11:29 (fourteen years ago)

Buggers belief

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Monday, 13 February 2012 11:31 (fourteen years ago)

Is he at least tactically competent? Genuine question, I have no memory of anything in his career except being the patsy in Ferguson's 70th birthday embarrassment.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 13 February 2012 11:36 (fourteen years ago)

it wd be hard to be less tactically competent than McCarthy but i feel like Bruce is probably on a level with him

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 11:36 (fourteen years ago)

but god i don't want to get all excited about competent.

also Terry Connor needs to be got rid of as soon as a new manager's appointed. if anything i suspect Connor's been the tactical mastermind under Mick.

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 11:37 (fourteen years ago)

Be LOLsome if Roy Keane got the job

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Monday, 13 February 2012 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

i wd be all in favour of Keane tbh

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 11:44 (fourteen years ago)

possibly because of revenge fantasies about some of our squad

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 11:44 (fourteen years ago)

You do need to keep up the ex-Celtic player numbers as well, (Steve) Kean's only just hanging on after all ... not to mention Dalglish! So Malky Mackay for Wolves then?

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Monday, 13 February 2012 11:47 (fourteen years ago)

There's hope yet, Bruce drifting badly after making the early running - 8/1 from 4/1 earlier. Curbishley the new frontrunner at sevens. But wait - Rafa also drifting, down there at 16/1.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 13 February 2012 12:54 (fourteen years ago)

It's almost like nobody's got a clue.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 13 February 2012 12:55 (fourteen years ago)

Bruce is pretty limited as a manager but he'd keep that Wolves team in the Premiership and you'd be able to build from there. McCarthy has always been shit, he was a complete disaster at Sunderland.

Matt DC, Monday, 13 February 2012 12:58 (fourteen years ago)

i literally have no idea whether most of our squad are Premiership class and i don't think anybody will know until they've had a chance under a competent tactician

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:06 (fourteen years ago)

You'd take Curbs over Bruce surely? Rafa over anyone though.

I've always viewed Bruce as more of a steward than a manager. I can't associate him with any particular style of play, type of player that he favours or any personality whatsoever besides generic good-natured Geordie. He might keep them up in the way that a new manager just reinvigorates regardless of who it is, but that's hardly progress, is it?

Upt0eleven, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:07 (fourteen years ago)

Wasn't it the case when Sunderland sacked him that Mick was simultaneously the most successful Championship/Div1 manager and least successful Premiership manager in both league's histories (measured in points-per-game)? I think he took Millwall to 3rd, took over Sunderland to take them down, got them to the play-offs then got them up as champions then straight back down with a handful of points.

Sh3rry and the Bloodworks \m/ (onimo), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:08 (fourteen years ago)

i literally have no idea whether most of our squad are Premiership class

What if they aren't? What if they were only still scraping their place in the league thanks to what Mick could get out of them?

(I was thinking of a thread along those lines - like "is your club's position reflective of its quality?" or something like that)

Sh3rry and the Bloodworks \m/ (onimo), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:11 (fourteen years ago)

xpost to self

I mean staying up is obv better than going down but Bruce just seems like the obvious, risk/return-free, affordable choice.

Prepared to concede I may have my assessment completely wrong and just be basing it all on his face tho.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:11 (fourteen years ago)

mccarthy isn't shit - i think he gets a harder time than he deserves, and at least did well in the championship at sunderland - but it was certainly time for wolves to let him go. bruce will not get another premier league job, though it's not inconveivable that he could be back in the premier league one day via promotion. curbishley will probably get the wolves job, which is not an exciting propspect, but not an altogether unpleasant one either

Weasel Diesel, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:12 (fourteen years ago)

Cd live with Curbs, Rafa wd be fascinating but i can't see Morgan paying Rafa wages. Wd detest Bruce.

What if they were only still scraping their place in the league thanks to what Mick could get out of them?

the problem with this of course is that these are almost all players that mick bought in or has consistently chosen to play, long past the point of common sense in some cases cough*karlhenry*cough

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:15 (fourteen years ago)

I've always viewed Bruce as more of a steward than a manager. I can't associate him with any particular style of play, type of player that he favours or any personality whatsoever

My flatmate hates Bruce and often goes on about this. He really is kind of an anonymous character

Number None, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:16 (fourteen years ago)

Obv. no-one would want Steve Bruce managing their football team. Is Curbishley still looking for work, he seems a bit longterm unemployed to me. Is Billy Davies too much of a pain in the arse? Would any of the up and coming managers outside the Prem. want to manage Wolves?

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:18 (fourteen years ago)

mccarthy can't really consider himself harshly done by. the performances this season have been woeful, with perhaps 5 or 6 exceptions. the sheer number of goals we've shipped is testament to a failure to get even the fundamentals in place. whether he's better in the championship or not i think he's too tactically inept to cut it in the game now and too pig-headed to get people around him who can do tactics.

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:19 (fourteen years ago)

Billy Davies wd be a treat tbh. Ince wd be...interesting. I'd take Woy if the Albion fans weren't back in love with him after yesterday. Ideally I want somebody with vision and given the time and patience to build that, tbh. I want a bit of ethos.

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:21 (fourteen years ago)

odds on McCarthy to Leeds are shortening fast, apparently.

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:26 (fourteen years ago)

Freedman and Solskjær are two names being kicked about lower down the bookies' lists. Dunno what odds are based on other than the first few linters through the doors though.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:29 (fourteen years ago)

Linters? Punters.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:30 (fourteen years ago)

i like Dougie Freedman and wdn't wish the damned utd on him

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:30 (fourteen years ago)

Ey up, lad, I reckon the linters have got the treadle athwart down at t' mill, I tell thee (xp)

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:32 (fourteen years ago)

Those were for The Damned Wanderers

Ismael Klata, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:32 (fourteen years ago)

Bruce would probably do better than many of these names in terms of keeping Wolves up but it might be better to get relegated and rebuild in the Championship with someone actually talented on board.

What might be more likely happen is that you end up with Warnock or someone and make no net improvement whatsoever.

Matt DC, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:33 (fourteen years ago)

ok i like Dougie Freedman and wd welcome him to the Voyage of the Damned

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:33 (fourteen years ago)

Wtf is a linter? Why does my autocorrect know that and not punter?

Ismael Klata, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:33 (fourteen years ago)

every word of that post is true Matt except i wd substitute "would" for "might"

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:33 (fourteen years ago)

David O'Leary, I think, is who you want. I.e. Mick McCarthy but not.

Having checked his Wiki he appears to be available and also was born in Stoke Newington.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:34 (fourteen years ago)

Ideally I want somebody with vision and given the time and patience to build that, tbh. I want a bit of ethos.

HE'S READY.

Matt DC, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:34 (fourteen years ago)

can O'Leary manage a club who don't want to go bankrupt?

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:34 (fourteen years ago)

o'leary is the biggest wanker in football mgmt, a real prick

beware of greeks bearing petrol bombs (darraghmac), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:37 (fourteen years ago)

I know. He was born in Stoke Newington.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 13 February 2012 13:38 (fourteen years ago)

He's even more long term unemployed than Curbishley

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:41 (fourteen years ago)

maybe Capello wd like to continue working in England

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 February 2012 13:44 (fourteen years ago)

alternatively this dude looks pretty ready tbh:
