Seems to be a lack of organisation there. Is it right that KD is the only person who's been speaking out about this? Just can't get my head around the fact that they neither apologised for any offence taken early on, nor published their own written reasons to try to explain their stance. Missed a massive open goal here.

What does 'back and to the left' mean btw?

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 11 February 2012 22:27 (fourteen years ago)

Reference to the JFK movie where Costner is describing the angle of the bullets hitting the president.

Ach, the handshake was nothing, the advertising boards thing even less; can't believe we've been arguing about that all day. Really wish Jonathan Pearce wasn't commentating though, he always overplays everything.

And Ferguson can piss off, what's he on about there?

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 11 February 2012 22:56 (fourteen years ago)

the fenway guys have to be displeased. on the wrong side of a race row? losing and drawing this much? from this side of the atlantic everyone at lfc looks pedantic/rong/stoopid. luckily for them it isn't a big story here. could see suarez AND kenny gone at the end of the season, comolli to reshape

who can judge namitha (toandos), Saturday, 11 February 2012 22:58 (fourteen years ago)

We looked completely overwhelmed around Utd's goals

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 11 February 2012 22:59 (fourteen years ago)

'from this side of the atlantic everyone at lfc looks pedantic/rong/stoopid'

this is true but

'luckily for them it isn't a big story here'

this is prob much more important for Henry et al. Someone should get LeBron's take on matters.

boxall, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

Motd showing Sky footage? Wtf?!

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

yeah that must have hurt

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:03 (fourteen years ago)

great handshake replays

kid steel (cajunsunday), Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:03 (fourteen years ago)

Not sure what Dalglish has done wrong here? Tbf this is all massively curtailed.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:04 (fourteen years ago)

loled at suarez knocking ferdy and evra over in one go tbh

kid steel (cajunsunday), Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:05 (fourteen years ago)

curtailed?

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:05 (fourteen years ago)

Evans getting some deserved props

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:06 (fourteen years ago)

How did we play Scholes btw? Every other game the opposition has sat miles off him & let him do his thing unhindered - I was hoping we'd have him harried from the off.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:07 (fourteen years ago)

Curtailed = I'm getting no feel for what the game/occasion was actually like (I didn't see it earlier obviously)

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:09 (fourteen years ago)

that was about the height of it tbh. It wasn't incredibly eventful

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:10 (fourteen years ago)

Chelsea are only getting worse.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:10 (fourteen years ago)

wow. incredible skills from pienaar

kid steel (cajunsunday), Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:15 (fourteen years ago)

And Ferguson can piss off, what's he on about there?

Pure trolling. Not the first time he's pulled the "club of Liverpool's standing shouldn't blah blah" bollocks just to get a rise out of people. Even when he's right he's still a dick.

Sh3rry and the Bloodworks \m/ (onimo), Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:20 (fourteen years ago)

Fergie's going to have to deal with another handshaking problem tomorrow morning *makes drinky drinky motion*

zappi, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:21 (fourteen years ago)

Heh, from reading the thread this afternoon I had no idea it was Arshavin made the winner out of nothing

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:24 (fourteen years ago)

h8 u Henry

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:24 (fourteen years ago)

ya. quality play from arshavin.

kid steel (cajunsunday), Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:25 (fourteen years ago)

I thought Henry was signing off v Spurs? I feel cheated now.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 11 February 2012 23:26 (fourteen years ago)

they tried to get him for two more weeks but NY refused

re ismael

Which I can't knock tbh, their job is to forge a successful team, not to make friends.

ummm liverpool's job is to make friends. friends who we more commonly call supporters, who buy tickets and merchandise and shirts. whether they come 4th-7th one year isn't actually as important as, oh i dunno, gaining a worldwide reputation that non-white people aren't welcome that could last for a long time. if you are a black parent in liverpool right now and your kid is choosing a team, who are you going to buy him a shirt for, everton or liverpool?

a hoy hoy, Sunday, 12 February 2012 07:32 (fourteen years ago)

That's not Dalglish's job. To some extent you're right, which is why I pointed out that Fenway might see it totally differently, depending on to what extent they're aware of what's going on here.

I'm not sure the club is picking up that reputation by the way. It could be - I don't know - though I'd guess that Liverpool & Suarez's stance gets more sympathy outside the UK (and North America) than it does here. Those links Chris posted are largely nonsense, but the core idea of media distortion is right I think - nobody even reports the charges right. I'd guess other places adjust for British hypocrisy too. And although I have some grave concerns about certain things that have happened, overall I'm not sure the stance has been that wrong, as opposed to just a consistent and slightly belligerent defence.

Which is kind of the point - KD and the rest are preaching to the choir here. Which again I don't particularly like, but I'm not from there and that's how some clubs (and places) are, Liverpool more than most. So I don't think parents, black or otherwise, are going to be particularly affected by this, plus it is just one non-tribal factor among many, whatever your origin. Everton are hardly some kind of utopian alternative anyway, historically.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 12 February 2012 08:13 (fourteen years ago)

Everton is just an example, support isn't really a regional thing anymore w/ the Premiership.

a hoy hoy, Sunday, 12 February 2012 08:15 (fourteen years ago)

If Liverpool turn into a side that win Premiership titles and Champions Leagues then people in Japan or India aren't going to give two shits about this situation.

I don't know if it's residual and naive nostalgia for the pre-Premiership era coupled with Liverpool's underdog status during said era, but I've always thought of Liverpool as kind of good guys of modern football. Even when they were dull Champions League mainstays I couldn't really fault them, but they are acting like such dicks I actively want them to fail.

I reckon Dalglish is doing some misguided protect-your-best-player nonsense here and may well privately think Suarez is guilty as hell. Fergie may be a dick but he would have given Suarez a big slapdown, a fine, and a few weeks on the bench. It's possible Suarez is such a loose cannon that just wouldn't work from a man management point of view, but it's still misguided.

You're right that Dalglish's job is to win games rather than friends. He's not doing either particularly well right now.

Matt DC, Sunday, 12 February 2012 10:55 (fourteen years ago)

theoretically LFC could end up with 2 cups this year (given that the 2 best teams are already out) which would be success.

pandemic, Sunday, 12 February 2012 11:42 (fourteen years ago)

Not sure that the owners would see winning two cups and finishing 7th as success - particularly after spending so much money to rebuild the team.

Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Sunday, 12 February 2012 11:46 (fourteen years ago)

Eh, if they thought we would finish fourth, they mad. Don't think any of the ILX LFC contingent did.

pandemic, Sunday, 12 February 2012 12:02 (fourteen years ago)

I must just zone out when Shearer et al are talking - I didn't even notice that Evra sneakily dropping his hand as Suarez arrived was a thing 'til I rewatched motd just now. Got to say it actually looks more like Suarez passing over an Evra snub than vice versa now. Maybe that's what Kenny meant by 'not what I was told'?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 12 February 2012 12:03 (fourteen years ago)

But still.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 12 February 2012 12:04 (fourteen years ago)

It's not as blind and white as it first seemed.

James Mitchell, Sunday, 12 February 2012 12:05 (fourteen years ago)

xxxp, From a business perspective, if you finish 6th one year, invest £100m, or whatever, on reshaping the squad and finish 7th the next, you're not going to be happy. The position isn't as important as the fact that they look as far away as ever from challenging. I don't know any Liverpool fans who think they've invested wisely or that they're set up to significantly improve with the players they have over the next two years.

Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Sunday, 12 February 2012 12:08 (fourteen years ago)

Liverpool challenging for fourth isn't a ridiculous prospect at all, look at the state of Chelsea and Arsenal over the course of this season. They're pretty resilient, but Dalglish's problem has been the inability to turn Liverpool into a creative or threatening side - a handful more goals would see them in fourth. Part of the problem is they're over-reliant on Suarez for creativity, especially when Bellamy isn't playing.

Matt DC, Sunday, 12 February 2012 12:17 (fourteen years ago)

£100 million, really! I call bullshit. At the start of the season did anyone expect Chelsea and Arsenal to be so poor?

pandemic, Sunday, 12 February 2012 12:20 (fourteen years ago)

Also I was unaware that the season had ended.

pandemic, Sunday, 12 February 2012 12:23 (fourteen years ago)

Arguably Arsenal are overperforming. I had them down for 7th, but behind Everton not Newcastle.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 12 February 2012 12:24 (fourteen years ago)

xps The £115m spent obviously includes the previous January transfer window but it's part of the same project under the new ownership. They took over a side that was probably the sixth best in the league and now have one that's probably still sixth best in the league.

I wouldn't bet against them finishing 4th. That would represent success - not winning two cups.

Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Sunday, 12 February 2012 12:32 (fourteen years ago)

I don't know any Liverpool fans who think they've invested wisely or that they're set up to significantly improve with the players they have over the next two years.

i'm a pessimist but "over the next two years"... might as well say i reckon i've a poor chance of winning any coin tosses that emerge to decide minor decisions amongst friends from from now till 2023.

and of course winning cups would be a success.

I don't know if it's residual and naive nostalgia for the pre-Premiership era coupled with Liverpool's underdog status during said era, but I've always thought of Liverpool as kind of good guys of modern football.

love this, if an lfc fan said this on ile they'd have a letter sent to their house with "sense of entitlement" written in semen on it.

as for kenny, he's just overdoing "siege mentality", ferguson is actually personally on the record with vile homophobic shit and if you google it there's barely a criticism but it's in enough places to know it happened.

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Sunday, 12 February 2012 12:35 (fourteen years ago)

I must just zone out when Shearer et al are talking - I didn't even notice that Evra sneakily dropping his hand as Suarez arrived was a thing 'til I rewatched motd just now.
except the video from behind suarez which i posted upthread shows evra raising his hand to suarez's. can this theory just die already?
