i like how the benefit if any doubt being extended to suarez somehow = 'evra is definitely a liar'

i've not said evra is definitely a liar. i'm saying a process that glosses over one man's inconsistencies and pounces on another's because they feel like making an example of someone is a joke.

Chris, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

It's clear suarez believes he's a liar. I wouldn't presume to know.

pandemic, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

When a football match did break out, it was Rooney's contribution that proved decisive and ensured United moved back to the top of the table ahead of Manchester City, who play at Aston Villa on Sunday.

never change nult

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

ronan, i guess my point is: this (the "suarez affair and its fallout") isn't all sky news-manufactured concern troll outrage

caek, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

because they feel like making an example of someone

so the FA weren't interested in whether Suarez was guilty and wd have found him guilty unless the evidence was totally conclusively against?

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

There was 3 minutes injury time a hoy hoy. Dunno what game Nult was watching

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:16 (fourteen years ago)

'accepting the verdict and moving on' ftw imo

Dr Frogbius (darraghmac), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

i agree, but i really think the handshake is not a major deal and is a typical thing the media seize on.

x-post don't get also why not bothering to shake his hand has to be seen as prolonging it, maybe he was purelry trying to agitate to gain an advantage today.

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:19 (fourteen years ago)

What a shit pitch Sunderland have.

James Mitchell, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

weird thing is it was Reina who caused the flare ups at half and full time. Maybe he heard something in Spanish?

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

baldito

irl lol

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:22 (fourteen years ago)

omg amazing strike from sunderland, saved.

xp i think that +7 means the total of both injury times from each half

Summer Slam! (Ste), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:22 (fourteen years ago)

it's language like that

because they feel like making an example of someone

that is what rubs me the wrong way about #LFC's reaction. it diminishes the seriousness of the allegation. afaict that isn't because they don't think racism is serious. but it does suggest a lack of self-awareness.

the FA panel found him guilty — and sincerely believed he was guilty by the standards of proof under which they operated. maybe they were wrong. but that's not the point. once they establish that in their own mind, to suggest the way they set the punishment was based on "feeling like" "making an example" of someone diminishes the allegation.

i am glad they made an example of someone they thought had done that. and judging by the report, they didn't make that example without thought.

i mean, what's the alternative to "feel like making an example of someone"? a 1 match ban instead of 8?

caek, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:23 (fourteen years ago)

LG I don't think you *can* discuss solely the handshake as if its an isolated incident occurring in a vacuum as if it's unconnected to everything else that's happened.

Matt DC, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:23 (fourteen years ago)

back to the football. Was Downing actually a worse signing than Carroll? Utterly anonymous

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:24 (fourteen years ago)

Downing shit... I have faith in Carroll. Adam should have started. Spearing was never good enough and never will be.

LG I don't think you *can* discuss solely the handshake as if its an isolated incident occurring in a vacuum as if it's unconnected to everything else that's happened.

I agree, but equally I don't think you can brand that one moment of "fuck you" a racial incident or a continuation of the previous.

I can't see us scoring in this game. Sunderland just a bunch of thugs not trying to win and I half expect one of their players just to throw a punch at any moment. Gonna end 0-0 is my guess.

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:27 (fourteen years ago)

so the FA weren't interested in whether Suarez was guilty and wd have found him guilty unless the evidence was totally conclusively against?

panel told to ignore hernandez's opinion on use of the spanish language, while accepting comolli's view that '10 times' is a figure of speech (despite him saying in this case evra should have been more precise). evra allowed to view video footage while being interviewed. evra changes his mind as to what suarez calls him. no video evidence. no witnesses. they accept suarez's admission that he used the word, but decide to add that on to the other 6 alleged occurences to make 7, instead of considering that it may be one of the 6. the only peope who know what happened are suarez and evra. the reporting on this has been misleading and mischievous. it's an absolute farce.

Chris, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:27 (fourteen years ago)

back to the football.

Chris, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

sunderland!!

Summer Slam! (Ste), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

did he say it
could evra reasonably have taken offence?

It's a farce alright

Dr Frogbius (darraghmac), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

Mertequacilli

James Mitchell, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

is that a yes, chris?

caek, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

Think Kenny definitely fucked up not starting Bellamy. There were a couple of moments in the first half where Kuyt went up against Rio and his lack of pace told.

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:30 (fourteen years ago)

FUCK

Mertesacker goes down in pain while in total control of the ball, looks like he fucked his hamstring or something, and McLean just strolls up and grabs the ball and scores 1 on 1. Hope Merte is ok, that looked painful whatever it was. Easiest Premiership goal of the season.

Being stretchered off.

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:30 (fourteen years ago)

Stadium of Light pitch needs a retrospective ban.

James Mitchell, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:30 (fourteen years ago)

McClean! Trap out

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:31 (fourteen years ago)

James Mitchell, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:35 (fourteen years ago)

ronan i'm on the phone actually, but tbf i am only able to scan and post quickly so you have a point.

You want me to come back with full responses later? :)

Dr Frogbius (darraghmac), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:35 (fourteen years ago)

what the fuck was trap thinking

gyac, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:35 (fourteen years ago)

All their players have been kicking at our heels, 'staying in' too much in the air etc. all game, it makes sense that the pitch was their 12th man on Merte. Scored an own goal on them w/ Ramsey's tame shot tho.

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:36 (fourteen years ago)

wait for Gilesy's take darragh

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:36 (fourteen years ago)

i'll prob be in the pub then but i might come in drunk and have a go so yeah possibly. depends how tired i get and possibly whether ireland beat france in the 6n.

Did the ref card Rosicky for a Verm tackle?

James Mitchell, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:37 (fourteen years ago)

did he say it
could evra reasonably have taken offence?

i know i said back to the football but ffs i'm not saying that evra didn't take offence. whether or not offence was intended i think suarez should have received some sort of ban, a telling off and a warning. but to come to 7 occurences when there's no evidence is incredible.

Chris, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:37 (fourteen years ago)

wonder where Utd would be in the league if Scholes hadn't come back. Thought provoking stuff

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

Wigan in front, if QPR could score a couple this cd be the best Saturday Wolves have had all season
