Dalglish has come out of this the worst. By far

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

if there was no evidence whatsoever then, just to be clear, do you think this is a conspiracy? and if so, who is responsible?

caek, Saturday, 11 February 2012 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

Chris, you can believe your player is innocent - i'm pretty sure he admitted saying what he said, but never mind - and you can protest that innocence long after your protest is going to change anything, if you want to. you could still do those things whilst at the same time continually pointing out that racial abuse, witting or not, is utterly unacceptable. Dalglish and the Liverpool ownership could do do those things. they aren't, tho.

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 February 2012 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

i wish i had your ennui about this sort of thing ronan

caek, Saturday, 11 February 2012 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

still waiting for confirmation that anyone of you have read all 115 pages of that report btw.

Chris, Saturday, 11 February 2012 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

i have

caek, Saturday, 11 February 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

xp I agree re: Dalglish. to my mind there's no way this would have gone this far without LFC & Dalglish's attitude.

gyac, Saturday, 11 February 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

yes, i read it

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

writing this whole thing off as "everybody loves to get at Liverpool FC, tsk banter eh?" is pretty undermining of the seriousness of the alleged offence

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 February 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

xposts. dalglish has said that racial abuse is unacceptable, the club have said so in their statements, there was outrage and condemnation from the fans wrt the alleged Adeyemi incident.

Chris, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

xp I agree re: Dalglish. to my mind there's no way this would have gone this far without LFC & Dalglish's attitude.

and without a weird trial process that took an eternity to begin.

xpost who's writing it off as that? i'm solely discussing the handshake snub.

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

i have not, because i dont really care. cunts are cunts and sometimes they may also be racist cunts.

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:01 (fourteen years ago)

dalglish used "banter" in post match interviews after both games, which seemed kind of flippant.

caek, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

conspiracy? no, not really. the committee believed evra over suarez (although they did let him watch the footage whilst he made his statement iirc). They decided some of Suarez evidence wasn't credible. Doesn't mean they were right, or wrong.

xxp

people seem outraged/concerned over the handshake, i wouldn't expect them to shake hands

pandemic, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

I honestly think Kenny is a man out of time

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:03 (fourteen years ago)

eh are you saying that dalglish said racial abuse was 'banter'? p.sure he didn't

pandemic, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:03 (fourteen years ago)

the laws surrounding banter really need tightening up

xpost pandemic otm. credit to evra for offering, and suarez more of a villain for snubbing, but not a big deal either way. it's just "not very nice".

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:04 (fourteen years ago)

dalglish used "banter" in post match interviews after both games, which seemed kind of flippant.

yeah wrt the fans. thought we'd been over that nonsense. fucking hell.

Chris, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:04 (fourteen years ago)

or unsporting

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:04 (fourteen years ago)

if i'd been accused of racially abusing a co-worker, and i hadn't done it, i wd probably be pretty aggrieved if a tribunal decided that i had. however aggrieved i was i think i'd probably go out of my way to convince my co-worker i hadn't done it. maybe shake their hand if it was offered to me, that kind of thing.

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

presenter on my (spanish?) stream is hooo boy a+ ws even if i couldnt get a decent printscreen

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

they're not co-workers though tbf. They're at "rival firms"

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

nah, different divisions of the corporation that is the EPL, innit?

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

except in suarez's opinion the co-worker knows that's not what happened.
xxp

pandemic, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

i just think if i wasn't racist i'd try really hard to create a public perception that i cared about not being thought of as a racist

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

"I never knew Suarez refused to shake Evra's hand. I wasn't there, I never saw it. It's contrary to what I've been told

does nobody find this a little odd? what, and who, has told him otherwise?

Summer Slam! (Ste), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

the voices in his head

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

maybe he wants the public opinion to be 'blimey he seems really really fucking aggrieved'
xxp

pandemic, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

which i don't think it will be

pandemic, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

but if you felt your name had been dragged through the mud then fuck it, why should he shake someone's hand to make us all feel good about ourselves because we're tough on racism and we've moved on. if people can't entertain the idea that suarez may be innocent then bollocks to them.

Chris, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

xposts to NV.

Chris, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

x-post to nv, perhaps... but that's so far from the WHAT A FUCKING CUNT madness upthread, for not partaking in the sky sports anointed pre-match handshake.

(there's a newer ferguson interview where he says suarez is a disgrace and should be sold, cos he is clearly such a bastion of liberal views himself)

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

Suarez's general character counts against him

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

i like how the benefit if any doubt being extended to suarez somehow = 'evra is definitely a liar'

You realise this is what you're doing, lads, right?

How'd you expect ppl to respond to that?

Dr Frogbius (darraghmac), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

going to read the lolnultreport and 7m extra time? what happened?

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

eek. i wasn't saying dalglish said racist abuse is "banter". i know he was talking about the fans.

i'm saying using a word like that to describe the fallout from an allegation of racism in 2012 is really stupid.

caek, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

"they're all cunts" is obviously mostly factually correct. but some PR gestures, empty or not, make a statement about where yr priorities lie.

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

er where have i said evra is a liar??

pandemic, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

exactly nv.

gyac, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:13 (fourteen years ago)

i like how the benefit if any doubt being extended to suarez somehow = 'evra is definitely a liar'

i've not said evra is definitely a liar. i'm saying a process that glosses over one man's inconsistencies and pounces on another's because they feel like making an example of someone is a joke.

Chris, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

It's clear suarez believes he's a liar. I wouldn't presume to know.

pandemic, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

When a football match did break out, it was Rooney's contribution that proved decisive and ensured United moved back to the top of the table ahead of Manchester City, who play at Aston Villa on Sunday.

never change nult

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

ronan, i guess my point is: this (the "suarez affair and its fallout") isn't all sky news-manufactured concern troll outrage

caek, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

because they feel like making an example of someone

so the FA weren't interested in whether Suarez was guilty and wd have found him guilty unless the evidence was totally conclusively against?

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

There was 3 minutes injury time a hoy hoy. Dunno what game Nult was watching

Number None, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:16 (fourteen years ago)

'accepting the verdict and moving on' ftw imo

Dr Frogbius (darraghmac), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

huh it says +7 on the bbc website.

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

obligatory complaint about how shitty bbc sport pages have become

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:19 (fourteen years ago)

ronan, i guess my point is: this (the "suarez affair and its fallout") isn't all sky news-manufactured concern troll outrage

i agree, but i really think the handshake is not a major deal and is a typical thing the media seize on.

x-post don't get also why not bothering to shake his hand has to be seen as prolonging it, maybe he was purelry trying to agitate to gain an advantage today.

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Saturday, 11 February 2012 16:19 (fourteen years ago)
