yeah I mean, if this guy weren't a progressive, people would be foaming at the mouth to have him fired.

as far as I've read, situation happened, wife felt bad enough about it to go to the neighbor and have her make a tear-filled video about the abuse, claimed it has happened before. neighbor takes video to the cops. wife then says no it wasn't a big deal. so either it wasn't and she is a huge drama queen (possible, she is a mexican soap opera actress) or it was and now she's just been convinced by him to cover it up. The other speculation was that she was planning on holding the video to use against him later in some kind of custody dust up. Anyway I don't think he should probably be the sheriff with all of this going on.

(possible, she is a mexican soap opera actress)

lol this detail had escaped me for some reason

max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:28 (fourteen years ago)

i thought she was a venezuelan actress?

sarahell, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:32 (fourteen years ago)

Eliana is Venezuelan, btw

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:33 (fourteen years ago)

oops well you get the idea.

akm, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:38 (fourteen years ago)

seems like the whole thing is going to hinge on his wife's testimony

max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

true, but I thought spouses could not be forced to testify against each other by law? or is that some made-up tv shit?

akm, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:40 (fourteen years ago)

no, that is true.

sarahell, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:41 (fourteen years ago)

well, she may testify for the defense

max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

also the spousal exclusion thing isn't that clear-cut iirc

max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

Domestic violence foes were incensed by a statement he made, however, that it was a private matter.

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

She may testify however she pleases. She cannot be compelled to incriminate her husband.

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:45 (fourteen years ago)

okay maybe it is that clear cut lol

max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:48 (fourteen years ago)

maybe her evil twin made the tape to frame the sheriff while eliana was flitting around a park in salem wearing a white lace tablecloth disguise and suffering from amnesia after being struck by lightning.

estela, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:56 (fourteen years ago)

Who is saying this a conspiracy from his enemies? Ivory Madison is a neighbor of theirs who did fundraising for his campaign for sherriff.

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:59 (fourteen years ago)

Mirkarimi's saying it! I'm guessing he's referring to the DA, who made the decision to press charges and is a political enemy of his

max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

Gascon and Mirkarimi hate each other iirc

max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 23:02 (fourteen years ago)

Fair enough but can Gascon afford not investigate this?

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 23:09 (fourteen years ago)

estela has a very sensible take on this. Rings of truth and whatnot

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 23:10 (fourteen years ago)

I've met Ross and he's always seemed decent enough for a pol but in a city as progressive as SF, stifling a pretty credible account of domestic violence is a non-starter. I hope he gets his day in court and I wish he were innocent. Call me prejudiced ('tis fair) but I look at all this w/an eye jaundiced as well by the fact that his wife is a foreigner who was allegedly told by him that he had powerful friends (insinuating that she did not) and it wouldn't behove her to mess w/him, presumably in some context regarding custody of their son. Even if she were a manipulative intrigante, he may have made the dick move of falling into her trap. I feel most shitty of all for their son.

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 23:17 (fourteen years ago)

wife to testify

max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 13 February 2012 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

bay area people: i'm looking for ideas for weekend getaways, anything from campsites/cabins in really cool places, through to high-end luxury B&Bs. anywhere within about a 3 hr driving radius.

places i've found so far:

i should say: within a 3 hr driving radius of el cerrito

just1n3, Friday, 17 February 2012 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

check out places along the Russian River, Guerneville, etc.

max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 17 February 2012 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I've been going w/friends up near Gurneville for a couple of years in a row, now. It's pretty fantastic.

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Friday, 17 February 2012 17:15 (fourteen years ago)

sarahell, Friday, 17 February 2012 23:34 (fourteen years ago)

I had no idea Remarc was still getting around. Good on him.

:(

schwantz, Friday, 2 March 2012 16:52 (fourteen years ago)

really irritating that it's not even business-driven - it's not like Serra Bowl isn't making money or lacking in clientele, it's just that the landlord is a greedy asshole

be scientific, douchebag (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 2 March 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

How will he make more money, though?

two weeks pass...

where should i stay in san francisco? i need to get to the mission district relatively easily/quickly at rush hour each morning. am looking at union squareish area bc it's very close to transit... any other recommendations?

tehresa, Friday, 16 March 2012 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

union square would be fine for your purposes but it won't be cheap

the sir edmund hillary of sitting through pauly shore films (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 16 March 2012 19:23 (fourteen years ago)

civic center/south of market or tenderloin

sarahell, Friday, 16 March 2012 19:47 (fourteen years ago)

I wouldn't really recommend the tenderloin. I mean, I spend time there and I have friends there but y'know some people might be alarmed by preponderance of speedfreaks/crackheads, trannywhores, random stabbings, crazed homeless people etc

the sir edmund hillary of sitting through pauly shore films (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 16 March 2012 19:49 (fourteen years ago)

Agree. Plus Tenderloin is not terribly fun to walk around at night (reinforced for me after seeing a show at GAMH last night.)\

Any reason why you don't want to just stay in the Mission? Upper Market near Castro/Church is also a good spot.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 16 March 2012 19:56 (fourteen years ago)

yeah was gonna suggest the Church/Castro axis, there's decent B&Bs around there

the sir edmund hillary of sitting through pauly shore films (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 16 March 2012 19:58 (fourteen years ago)

otoh if you are comfortable with the prospect of seeing someone take a shit in the street at any given time of day, by all means hit up the Tendo!

the sir edmund hillary of sitting through pauly shore films (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 16 March 2012 19:59 (fourteen years ago)

mission hotels didn't seem particularly great from the online reviews. can anyone recommend a good one?

tehresa, Friday, 16 March 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

my mother-in-law stayed at some B&B near us that seemed pretty decent, I think it was on Van Ness. Lemme look it up and see if I can find it.

the sir edmund hillary of sitting through pauly shore films (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:02 (fourteen years ago)

I think it was this one

how do you feel about doilies lol

the sir edmund hillary of sitting through pauly shore films (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:04 (fourteen years ago)

i do not wish to stay at a b&b for a week! hah. maybe one night. but i'm going for a work trip so i think it would get... awkward. i dunno, for a week, i guess i want more amenities that a hotel offers like a gym, my own bathroom, etc.

tehresa, Friday, 16 March 2012 20:06 (fourteen years ago)

there are cheap hotels around Union Square too. They really run the gamut.

lou reed scott walker monks niagra (chinavision!), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

yeah the hotels in the Mission aren't gonna meet your needs. if it's a work thing and they're payin for the stay, Union Square or or the SOMA hotels are best for that kind of thing

xp

the sir edmund hillary of sitting through pauly shore films (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

union square plus a few blocks to the north, a few blocks to the east, a few blocks to the south, and like 1.5 blocks to the west keeps out out of the tenderloin

lou reed scott walker monks niagra (chinavision!), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)

what are hotels in the mission? aside from really ratty looking places with signs that say they offer color tv.
