JonChi, of course you can post around me - I often like your posts. I just wouldn't get snippy with me because, as we all know since you so astutely pointed it out, I can be a total bitch.

That's the first picture I've ever seen of her that makes her look semi-cute.-- Squirrel_Police
Although she looks way older than she is. I'll buy the alcoholic thing on that basis alone.
-- Squirrel_Police
I must assume you're joking.
-- Johnny Fever
she probably doesn't want to be fancied by someone wearing a little police uniform with acorns embroidered on it.

x-post - OK that was sort of bitchy. I'm just in a shitty mood and maybe that wasn't called for. I will watch the damn show and report back. Since the recent ones are better can I just watch those? I mean, I won't be lost or anything, right?
― wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 19:06 (fourteen years ago)
It wasn't meant to be "snippy", I was just quoting what I thought was a funny way to word that, like you immediately undercut your own argument with that next sentence.

Yeah, no I get that. Like I said - I'm probably prone to overeating right now. Sorry.

take it to the diet thread
― buzza, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 19:10 (fourteen years ago)
yeah it's a definitely a trad sitcom in that any episode works as a standalone, not really any long term plot to worry about

You won't understand anything about the drug cartels and the Lake Tahoe suitcase if you start with later episodes.

While my language was a little dramatic, I still think that it's OK something looks like crap before you've seen or heard it and you're all lying if you claim to never have done/thought that.
― wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 19:32 (fourteen years ago)
"that it's OK to think that something looks like crap . . . "
― wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 19:33 (fourteen years ago)
Of course thats OK to do! Just don't cast aspersions on how other people might possibly be enjoying said thing though.

I barely watch this show but Schmidt seems the funniest to me. There was an end sequence where he complained that he couldn't find his driving moccasins and I was like "Oh shit, he is basically Tom Haverford."
― ban opinions (reddening), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 19:43 (fourteen years ago)
Oh yeah Schmidt is definitely the best part of the show, the montage with the douchebag jar was great.
― Gonjasufjanstephen O'Malley (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 19:44 (fourteen years ago)
imo the funniest episodes are "Bells", "Bad in Bed" and "The Landlord"
honorable mention to "The 23rd" and "The Story of the 50"

Watched the first four episodes of New Girl a while back. It was horrible. Did it improve like 1000x?
Yes. I'd probably recommend "Jess and Julia", actually. It's a total trad sitcom though.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 9 February 2012 03:23 (fourteen years ago)
zooey is pretty much exactly the same, but they've done a decent job fleshing out the guys
― Nhex, Thursday, 9 February 2012 04:54 (fourteen years ago)
I thought she was slightly less ditzy in the last two episodes, but that could be a transient thing.
― trishyb, Thursday, 9 February 2012 09:30 (fourteen years ago)
i think they realized she can't be that one-dimension AND stay the main character, it's like if "Friends" was called "Phoebe"
― Alshipleyan Goalpostmover (some dude), Thursday, 9 February 2012 13:59 (fourteen years ago)
one-dimensional
Yeah, I don't think she's stayed exactly the same either. She's much less awkward and doesn't randomly burst into song nearly as much. I feel like she even dresses differently but maybe I'm misremembering.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 9 February 2012 16:32 (fourteen years ago)
She doesn't seem to dress quite so hideously as she does in the opening titles and did in the first few episodes, when she wore clothes that seemed specially designed to make her look gawky and terrible, like Harrison Ford's clothes in Mosquito Coast.
― trishyb, Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:59 (fourteen years ago)
Now I feel like creating a Harrison Ford in "Mosquito Coast - damn, damn, damn does this man look good" thread but I will abstain.
― A funnier, sunnier (Nicole), Thursday, 9 February 2012 18:01 (fourteen years ago)
they really need to ditch those opening titles
― Alshipleyan Goalpostmover (some dude), Thursday, 9 February 2012 18:12 (fourteen years ago)
or at least play the whole thing so it's clear the guys are very obviously being put upon
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 9 February 2012 18:13 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, that's the thing: the show initially seemed to be making the bold move of casting a popular attractive actress as a fairly unattractive character who was almost painfully awkward. ("Bold" != "fun to watch") The character seems much more comfortable and conventionally feminine in some ways now, more of a 'cute girl who likes ribbons and cupcakes'. (And it happened too fast to fall into an 'ugly duckling' narrative arc.)

Alessandra Rizzotti is a former child model who currently works for the R-rated cartoon show Family Guy. She’s written for Smith, Heeb and Neave's online magazines, and has been published in two Harper Perennial books. Alessandra lives in Silverlake where she makes terrariums and spends time with her five animals, Maude the dog, cats Hunter, Max and Princess Bunny Buttons, as well as her boyfriend, who she affectionately calls "Bear". You can see more of her work here and there, but maybe just follow her everywhere.
I can't.
