and maybe...guilt

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

and a kind of jealousy

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:51 (fourteen years ago)

and a sort of quiet, unresolved anger

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:51 (fourteen years ago)

the non wealthy parts of west la (including the neighborhood "west la") are very interesting to me in that the are so anonymous. if i wanted to disappear/run away that's where i'd move.

buzza, Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:52 (fourteen years ago)

what's west la

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:53 (fourteen years ago)

it's a good question

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:53 (fourteen years ago)

I don't know man. I love living here. It's a little more spread out than East LA, but you've got some really good restaurants (especially Italian), easy access to lots of shopping and some really good movie theaters, a record store that I love (Record Surplus), plus closer to the ocean.

Also it's quiet, which I appreciate.

Gamera died for our sins (J3ff T.), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

"i don't go west of fairfax" is the "i don't go above 14th street" of LA

Prince Rebus (donna rouge), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

There are some good movie theaters. The ocean, I don't know, how great is it really?

My neighborhood is damn quiet. Sitting by the screen door right now and all I hear is birdsong.

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:55 (fourteen years ago)

honestly tho the expo line extension means i am several times more likely to head over to west LA

Prince Rebus (donna rouge), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:55 (fourteen years ago)

Plus we have less hipsters. I guess the pest control is better over here.

Gamera died for our sins (J3ff T.), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:56 (fourteen years ago)

those quieter parts are nice. beverly hills makes my skin crawl tho.

Prince Rebus (donna rouge), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

like I used to work in westchester, lived in lawndale and redondo for a bit, but like, what's west la

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

Beverly Hills is the worst, I will grant you.

Gamera died for our sins (J3ff T.), Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:59 (fourteen years ago)

Since the mid 1990s, Palms has seen an upturn in its fortunes, with the revival of Culver City's adjacent downtown adding new life to the area. The district's diversity, affordability, and central location have made it an appealing center for young professionals seeking alternatives to traffic-choked Westwood and Santa Monica, but still wanting to live in a diverse urban setting in a neighborhood relatively close to the beach.

buzza, Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:59 (fourteen years ago)

West LA seems like all "hipsters" to me whenever I go, just that weird dayglo classically "LA" kind of hipster. But I don't go there enough to have much opinion. I go for movie theater or beach or to buy clothes. I would go more if I could ride metro, for sure.

I think of "I don't go west of Fairfax" as "I don't go South of Embankment".

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:01 (fourteen years ago)

I liked going to the Landmark in Culver City. It was cool to see so many teenagers at a movie about Pina Bausch.

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:03 (fourteen years ago)

my roommate used to live in palms, she was mostly eh about it

Prince Rebus (donna rouge), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:03 (fourteen years ago)

Remy used to live in Palms. jeff lower case jeff used to live in Culver City. I'd move West if I got a job over that way.

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

palms is p horrible but this place is alright

buzza, Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:05 (fourteen years ago)

ok see I thought I was confused but if you're including manhattan beach in west la then you are insane

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:06 (fourteen years ago)

I'm not calling it West LA but I do think of it is west, yes. I think of it as its own thing, really. It's not really near anywhere.

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:07 (fourteen years ago)

Also I was thinking about the ocean

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

I showed Google Earth of my street to a friend who lives in an East Coast city and she said "do you live in the suburbs?". I said "I'm about a 5-minute drive from downtown LA!". This is a funny place

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:10 (fourteen years ago)

there's a new roscoes around culver city btw

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:11 (fourteen years ago)

my one friend described my neighborhood as "the kind of place where i bet they shoot a lot of gay porn"

Prince Rebus (donna rouge), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

wq (admrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:40 (fourteen years ago)

roscoe's <333

Prince Rebus (donna rouge), Sunday, 5 February 2012 19:44 (fourteen years ago)

we did a FAP at the hollywood roscoe's once, a few years ago. i went back the night of the tune-yards show last year -- the chicken was good, but the dish i ordered came with grits, which were terrible. note to self: stick with the chicken and waffles.

textile in thighville (get bent), Monday, 6 February 2012 22:34 (fourteen years ago)

I've not been to Red Medicine yet.

I just remembered how we saw Peter Baynham that time at Amoeba and really regret not saying something to him. I mean, how many times would he get recognized in LA??

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 00:35 (fourteen years ago)

I'm guessing...none?

eating a sausage as I type this (admrl), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 03:43 (fourteen years ago)
