Are we going to the match y/n?
I guess the best place for a pint is somewhere handy for krakow to nip out to at lunchtime. Since I don't know where he works and haven't been out in Glasgow for maybe a couple of years then somebody call it. Noon?
― Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Saturday, 4 February 2012 16:51 (fourteen years ago)
krakow works near qn street station iirc.
oh is this a football thing?
― jed_, Saturday, 4 February 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)
Doesn't have to be - I'm not bothered either way. I had assumed ailsa and/or onimo would be going to watch the rematch of today but that was more of a guess than anything else.
― Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Saturday, 4 February 2012 16:59 (fourteen years ago)
Not necessarily football for everyone - onimo and I (and maybe aldo?) are going to the football that afternoon, hence early start in pub. Ward F had mentioned about maybe joining us, but I don't know if that's happening.

Krakow, how long do you get for lunch and how near your work would you like us?
― ailsa, Saturday, 4 February 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)
... there are very few decent pubs near krakow's work, it's Wetherspoon central, mostly.
― ailsa, Saturday, 4 February 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)
Saying that, Wetherspoon = cheap real ales + very real likelihood of seats.
― ailsa, Saturday, 4 February 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)
The vale is alright iirc.
― zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 4 February 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)
I like the Vale, but (1) don't see it as fap-friendly and (2) doesn't it get quite busy before Celtic games? It is approx 10000000000 x better than the shithole next door.
― ailsa, Saturday, 4 February 2012 18:46 (fourteen years ago)
How about Heavenly? I can take an hour & that's not far at all; I'm a fast walker.
― brain (krakow), Saturday, 4 February 2012 20:28 (fourteen years ago)
I'm easy though, anything within that kind of distance would suit me. I'm happy at Wetherspoons nowadays and would be interested to try the Vale if it weren't too busy. As long as I know in the morning to give my fellow workmate friend warning ahead of time so we can arrange for him to get his lunch at a decent time, I can take a break pretty much whenever.
― brain (krakow), Saturday, 4 February 2012 20:44 (fourteen years ago)
Vale is fine by me if fine with others - v handy for your work and v handy for onward travel to football. Guess being in early doors will secure seats.
― ailsa, Saturday, 4 February 2012 20:57 (fourteen years ago)
Cool. It would indeed be super handy. Not somewhere I would ever think to go myself.
― brain (krakow), Saturday, 4 February 2012 21:06 (fourteen years ago)
Given the random and unexpected success of fappage in the Alpen Lodge, I'm all for random odd pubs.
― ailsa, Saturday, 4 February 2012 21:10 (fourteen years ago)
Oh god, that time in the Alpen Lodge when it played all the tracks we would have on the jukebox for free.
― Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Saturday, 4 February 2012 21:44 (fourteen years ago)
And then played JAMC even though it wasn't on the jukebox.
― Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Saturday, 4 February 2012 21:45 (fourteen years ago)
Did we collectively hallucinate that? Good times!
― ailsa, Saturday, 4 February 2012 21:51 (fourteen years ago)
unfortunately i have an absolute ton of freelance work to do this weekend, subbing an old ppl's magazine, so i can't come out to play - but would still like to 'do' parkhead, at some point.
― Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 12:56 (fourteen years ago)
I am v. skint, so the cheaper the better if you ask me. Who's in for definite - me, aldo, krakow, jed. Jim? Eyeball Kicks?
― ailsa, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 17:25 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, I'm definitely in for a little break-time ILX meeting!
― brain (krakow), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 20:27 (fourteen years ago)
Aye, me.
G says he's taking the boys but has a spare if we meet him by the ground before.
― Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 20:38 (fourteen years ago)
Do we have a back-up plan in case this bomb guy's obliterated the area before tomorrow?
(aldo, I appear to have lost your phone number).
― ailsa, Friday, 10 February 2012 21:01 (fourteen years ago)
We go into Queen Street so g_d only knows where we'll end up if it goes off.
Ok. If Glasgow is blown up then Alpen Lodge. We all know where it is. I will still aim off to be wherever at about 12. For those who haven't met me before I will be wearing a grey Circle (the Finnish band) t-shirt and/or a Neurosis hoodie.
Ailsa , does your number still end FOUR ZERO? I will text you if it does.
― Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Friday, 10 February 2012 22:47 (fourteen years ago)
aldo, we'd better co-ordinate our Circle t-shirt choice! NWOFHM is all that I wear!
― brain (krakow), Friday, 10 February 2012 22:50 (fourteen years ago)
Aldo, no, it doesn't. email me or else get my number off onimo if you're in touch with him.
― ailsa, Friday, 10 February 2012 22:56 (fourteen years ago)
I will wear the one from last autumn with the round logo that you can't make out which band it's for. Which kind of makes my last post redundant to everyone except you. NWOFHM xpost
― Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Friday, 10 February 2012 23:01 (fourteen years ago)
I have just sent you my number by FB message Ailsa.
― Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Friday, 10 February 2012 23:05 (fourteen years ago)
Phone numbers obtained. Glasgow FAP is go! Now get this bomb dude shifted, eh?
― ailsa, Friday, 10 February 2012 23:26 (fourteen years ago)
Is that still going on? blimey.
― stet, Saturday, 11 February 2012 00:00 (fourteen years ago)
its over
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Saturday, 11 February 2012 00:02 (fourteen years ago)
Shifted just after I asked for him to be shifted. Still on for the Vale then, chaps?
― ailsa, Saturday, 11 February 2012 00:14 (fourteen years ago)
What time is anyone turning up?
― brain (krakow), Saturday, 11 February 2012 08:36 (fourteen years ago)
I'm heading there for about 12.
― Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Saturday, 11 February 2012 08:49 (fourteen years ago)
Cool, I think Ailsa mentioned the same. That should suit me, but you know where I am, if I don't appear!
I'll pick out a different Circle t-shirt just now...
― brain (krakow), Saturday, 11 February 2012 08:50 (fourteen years ago)
I'll be there around 12 as well.
― ailsa, Saturday, 11 February 2012 09:13 (fourteen years ago)
In, sat opposite the door.
― Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Saturday, 11 February 2012 12:06 (fourteen years ago)
Good times. Cheap beer, having to obtain a key to another level to go to the ladies, being the only woman in a packed pub. Actually genuinely quite liked it! Good to catch up with aldo and krakow.
Vague plans were made for an assault on music quizzes. Anyone else up for this?
― ailsa, Saturday, 11 February 2012 18:05 (fourteen years ago)
I really liked the Vale too! It was good to meet you for the first time aldo and to catch you again a bit more properly ailsa. I hope that you had a good rest of the afternoon. It made a really nice change for a Saturday lunchtime for me. Up for an assault on various music quizzes...
― brain (krakow), Saturday, 11 February 2012 20:05 (fourteen years ago)
Forgot to show you my Circle t-shirt aldo, I was wearing the red fist...
Glasgow, I've missed you. just arrived for a three day conferencel at SECC and staying across the road at the Campanile. currently sitting in the hotel bar and wondering whether a restaurant next door which boasts Japanese, Thai and Chinese cuisine via a large neon sign could possibly be any good
― Grandpont Genie, Sunday, 25 March 2012 21:23 (fourteen years ago)
It is, actually!
― ailsa, Sunday, 25 March 2012 21:27 (fourteen years ago)
Have any Glaswegians seen Tavernier's Death Watch. Don't think I've ever seen a city photographed on film so lovingly well as this.
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 12:31 (thirteen years ago)
The first shot of the cemetery is one for all time.
saw it at the glasgow film theater last week :-) am always keen to catch old film of my adopted hometown, and yes, loved the dusky, twilight quality to many of the images. it was interesting to see that parts of the city centre have hardly changed in thirty years - i immediately recognised st vincents street, where i work. that cemetery is the necropolis, which is a pretty photogenic place (and about ten minutes away from my flat); it also turns up in The Angels' Share funnily enough, along with other parts of the East End (Mark S wrote a v gd review of the Loach for S&S, btw)
― Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 12:45 (thirteen years ago)
Interested in The Angels' Share - a Ken Loach comedy, don't think I've seen one..
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 22:43 (thirteen years ago)
I loved it.
― Madchen, Thursday, 14 June 2012 05:57 (thirteen years ago)
hi madchen!
the angels's share is v v funny in places, but one of the gd things abt it is the way that loach complicates the characters - there's a really moving and brilliantly acted scene where the lead guy is confronted with the effect of his violent behaviour. i can understand why they're billing it as 'the scottish full monty' on the posters, but of course it's not really v helpful or accurate to think of it in that way
― Ward Fowler, Thursday, 14 June 2012 08:02 (thirteen years ago)
Yes, that scene was superb.
