I think the next show I'm going to go see is the Mastodon/Opeth/Ghost show.

I have to attend a meeting at 11:30 that I fear is going to result in my workload increasing exponentially.

― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 2 February 2012 17:35 (fourteen years ago)
I was right about the meeting yay for me.
― gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 2 February 2012 18:31 (fourteen years ago)
Meaning the purpose of the meeting was to inform us that from now on, we have an additional 1-3 things to write per week on top of our regular stuff.
*seething job hate*
― gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 2 February 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)
Particularly insulted by the statement that we're not expected to work overtime or take work home since there is no other way to accommodate the increase.
― gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 2 February 2012 18:34 (fourteen years ago)
sorry jenny. my work is reasonable right now but i am regretting involvement on this association committee where i'm supposed to be doing -something- but the committee head isn't doing a great job of telling me exactly what i should be doing so i feel lost and frazzled
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 2 February 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)
why why why why why did I look at the comments on the trib story about the egyptian soccer riot, it's like some kind of self-flagellation punishment
― long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 2 February 2012 19:04 (fourteen years ago)
i somehow tore the elbow on my favorite/nicest work shirt. rip work shirt.
anyone got any recommendations for a restaurant in the loop where i can host a dinner for members of the association i'm in? preferably not super-expensive?
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:51 (fourteen years ago)
I've always found it's hard to go wrong in greektown but that's not in the loop
― long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:54 (fourteen years ago)
I don't host a lot of association dinners, mind
― long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:55 (fourteen years ago)
Italian Village?
― gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:56 (fourteen years ago)
Not State and Lake.
― Jeff, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:58 (fourteen years ago)
we're probably going to be doing a bigger event in Greektown in March. this is probably only going to be a few people so it doesn't have to be anywhere huge or somewhere with private rooms
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 2 February 2012 21:02 (fourteen years ago)
The only midrange places I can think of in the Loop are, like, Indian or Thai joints.
― jaymc, Thursday, 2 February 2012 21:06 (fourteen years ago)
Walnut RoomSiam Rice
Can you go over the river? What about Maggiano's or another of LEY's fine restaurants?
― gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 2 February 2012 21:14 (fourteen years ago)
i like thai food. siam rice looks good.
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 2 February 2012 21:16 (fourteen years ago)
Yes, River North opens things up considerably. Cafe Iberico. Slurping Turtle. Mercadito. Etc. There's also a good no-frills sushi place on Wells I can't remember the name of.
― jaymc, Thursday, 2 February 2012 21:18 (fourteen years ago)
here is a super bowl article that may be of interest to jaymc. it's by ken jennings: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7528909/jeopardy-super-champion-ken-jennings-10-best-super-bowls-trivia-history
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 2 February 2012 22:15 (fourteen years ago)
or maybe not. it's kind of dumb. sorry.
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 2 February 2012 22:17 (fourteen years ago)
I love Siam Rice. It's very affordable and tasty. They are kind of oriented towards their lunch business, which is very busy, and so tend to kind of rush you in and out of there. Or they make you feel kind of rushed. Depending on the size of your party, you might want to call ahead.
― gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 2 February 2012 22:19 (fourteen years ago)
xp Yeah, I would've preferred more sports facts. But thanks for the tip, anyway! The only thing I ever read on Grantland is Hollywood Prospectus, and mostly just Mark Harris's Oscar columns.
― jaymc, Thursday, 2 February 2012 22:20 (fourteen years ago)
Only things I've read there are Colson Whitehead's World Series of Poker diary and Klosterman.
― ‘Neuroscience’ and ‘near death’ pepper (Eazy), Thursday, 2 February 2012 22:28 (fourteen years ago)
i check it, i like their more analytical/stats-based stuff though i don't always understand it. simmons is a doofus and the little i've read of klosterman's stuff i find v. v. irritating. but i liked whitehead on poker a lot. they have good articles about professional wrestling too (not that i know anything about professional wrestling - that's why i like these articles).
is siam rice mellower at dinner? this is supposed to be a social/discussion thing so i don't want us to feel hurried after like half an hour.
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 2 February 2012 22:33 (fourteen years ago)
sorry i'm being so needy. i can figure this out on my own.
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 2 February 2012 22:39 (fourteen years ago)
I was going to suggest the Dead Wrestler of the Week feature on Grantland, but that is actually on Deadspin. Still: highly recommended, even if you don't care about wrestling as a thing to watch/follow.
You're not being needy! I would not recommend Siam Rice as a place for socializing/discussion. They're not going to kick you out, but they will just stop coming to the table. It's also kind of loud in there.
Are you opposed to Italian Village? Because that might be the ticket.
― gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 2 February 2012 22:43 (fourteen years ago)
well i already picked siam rice. apparently i CAN'T figure this out on my own.
j/k it'll be ok.
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 2 February 2012 22:44 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah that Dead Wrestler of the Week feature is fantastic.

Ran into T0n1 Pr3ckw1nkl3 and she let me on the escalator in front of her. Class act. Glad I voted for her.
Apparently PQ is skulking around here today, too.
