I bought a nice pair of black leather/blue suede Campers in Sevilla. Don't have a picture to show 'em off, though.

hstencil, Tuesday, 14 October 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Shoes are great. Gloria Hunniford once said: "You should always spend good money on shoes and your bed, because if you not in one then you'll be in the other." I like those silver Prada slipper things. I'd buy a pair but they'd look ridiculous on me. And I don't think they probably do them in 12.

Stop patriarchally oppressing me Mark.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a great quote Alfie!

Pinkpanther- where did you get those boots?

liz., Tuesday, 14 October 2003 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Can anyone recommend a heel style for a girl who doesn't like to wear heels? Can (preferably) be a small heel. Must go with pink legwarmers.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Kitten heel, small, LOW CUT AT THE FRONT - I know what I mean by this. Either totally round toe or totally pointy!

With a cat face!!!!

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Baby, I can't wait!

half jack, Tuesday, 14 October 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, are you suggesting toe cleavage? Eek!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Kitten heel is definitely the way to go!
I got (will get when they are delivered) those boots from office. As per most of my cool boots/shoes!
toe cleavage, c or d?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 07:15 (twenty-two years ago)

What is a kitten heel?

I need help in this regard, because I don't like heels either. I used to be able to get away with a Cuban Heel, which I could actually balance in, but these days it just makes my feet hurt.

I've GOT to find something to wear on my feet that isn't trainers or hiking boots! (I forgot about my hiking boots until Ed reminded me, but I only ever wear them in Wiltshire.)

kate (kate), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yesterday we bought some new boots for me. In the shop was a man buying some totally SM kinky leathah high heeled boots for himself.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 08:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Those look bloody awkward. How do walk? That seems a very strange place to put the centre of gravity for a shoe. The foot is such a well-designed machine! Why f*ck with it in that way?

kate (kate), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 08:09 (twenty-two years ago)

What I need is what I used to call "Ballet shoes" which were like posh shoes on top, but with no heel at all. WHat are they called?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I will not wear cowboy boots. I no longer live on a farm, thank you.

The top two are close, but why oh why do they have the heel of the foot balanced on a little tiny spike like that? The heel of the foot is a precision machine, don't make it balance on a pin. I want something similar to that, but with the heel bit flat horizontally, rather than flat vertically, if you see what I mean?

kate (kate), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! much better! Bravo! I actually looked at the first of your "got these ones" at the Brunswick Centre, but HSA rejected them. :-( I really like the one with the buckle, but then again, I just like buckles.

kate (kate), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought some more shoes!! NOT the green ones I was after, but another pair by Fly - they're beige, with a kind of patch and strap motif and a discreet sole. If their webiste wasn't so appallingly designed I'd find a picture.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

What about a link mark?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been trying to find one!

Try here - be warned that the site seems dodgy and takes an age to load.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice. (it didnt seem to take any time at all to load up!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
I feel sick that I hadn't noticed this thread before. All shoe threads should send an automatic alert to me - can this be arranged?

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 2 November 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C - your shoes look like they have been made my handicapped people.

Am I right in saying those shoes are green and yellow?

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

And have soles made of marzipan?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

your handicapped people?

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

She has several.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

That would make them slightly more attractive.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

We should just get an AIM chat going. NickJSouthall if you want me.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I have already said that I don't want you!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I have already told you that I don't want you!

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Cheers then.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

At first I was wary, but now that I've lived in London for almost two months those clan-of-the-cavebear-esque boots that every girl in sight wears are starting to look comfortable and appealing. (See PinkPanther's boots upthread for visual representation).

Mandee (Jerrynipper), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I fear those boots. They look comfy like fleeces look comfy but it's not going to happen is it?

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

They would do my calves no favours.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't know you had a livestock.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Didn't you?

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I already said.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

So you think I'm a liar, eh?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 2 November 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought some black Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenue factory seconds in their factory second sale. No obvious defect that I can see. Def the nicest pair of dress shoes that I’ve owned, simple but the leather just looks and feels so much richer, even the smell is nicer.

I have black (low) ones. After a year they don't hurt anymore.

nathom, Friday, 25 January 2019 09:21 (seven years ago)

I bought some checkerboard vans. Solely because SPICOLI. LOL

nathom, Friday, 25 January 2019 09:23 (seven years ago)

aside: user half jack near top of thread posted a pic in 2003 that still links. i was kind of amazed at this and went to the source, a blog called style with substance that hasn't been updated since '09 but still holds its place on the web. kind of a little internet museum for ya if you're curious. wayback machinations.

carry on.

andrew m., Friday, 25 January 2019 15:10 (seven years ago)

they aren't new but I'm being an even bigger nerd and wearing these today

six months pass...

lol, I just realized the image I posted above a while back of my pointers has been replaced with images of silver and gold vejas

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Wednesday, 16 October 2019 20:23 (six years ago)

Anyway, I was actually gonna put in a word for Beckett Simonon -- one of these internet only companies that takes advance orders, mostly for dress shoes but now they also do boots and sort of luxe sneakers. I'm not really a fan of their sneakers, but I did order a pair of burgundy oxfords from them and they are pretty sick and incredibly well-made for $160. I want to buy boots from them now, the only problem is the lead time means I won't have them til January and I kind of want boots now.

is that like a white contrast stitch on the sole?

they look nice though unfortunately i have no reason to buy or wear dress shoes these days.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 October 2019 23:14 (six years ago)

No it’s just the light reflecting I think. The color is also oddly hard to capture in photos.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Wednesday, 16 October 2019 23:41 (six years ago)

ah ok, that makes much more sense.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 October 2019 23:52 (six years ago)

seven months pass...

wow. beautiful.

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 9 June 2020 07:22 (six years ago)

I am becoming a bit of a stan of the company - wish the shoes didn't take months to arrive, but I guess that's why you pay what you pay for them.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Tuesday, 9 June 2020 15:19 (six years ago)

I have two basic leather dress belts from them as well, also v good

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Tuesday, 9 June 2020 15:20 (six years ago)

ten months pass...
ten months pass...

Just ordered my first ever pair of Chukkas. I used to be sort of against them, but I need some kind of non-black, semi-casual office shoe that goes with a lot of stuff. Guess we'll see how they look in person.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Thursday, 24 March 2022 23:34 (four years ago)

Yeah, those turned out bad and I'm returning them. Color is really ugly in person, less red and more tan than pictured, and I'm not sure the chukka shape suits me anyway (I feel like in pics they're always shown with extremely slim leg pants, jeans that are hemmed high, and I have thick calves and can't wear super slim-legged pants without looking like I'm wearing tights.

Seems like tons of mens shoes are out of stock rn. Supply chain I suppose.
