Gosh you guys!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 20:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

What nitsuh said, big style. He's one of the people here who I'd buy a drink, rather than just, y'know, go for a drink with them. I mean, with a name like that, and the personality to match. Jeez, some puppies get all the luck.

Back in the 1800s when Canadians didn't know any better they'd leave a jug of skinned oranges out on the back porch for weeks at a time. Then I'm not sure what happened.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes I do, I'm loaded!

(checks wallet)

Sorry, no I'm not.

Tracer is great! (I won't go into the problems I have with his name again, despite having just a few moments ago received an email from my artist friend Mr Hand...)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Is that the newest masterbation euphamism, Martin?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I knew that's how this thread would end up.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:20 (twenty-three years ago)

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:21 (twenty-three years ago)

You've finished wanking, jess?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer, you shoulda asked me for a drink.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I remember the first time TRACER HAND appeared on ilx. Actually I don't, quite. But I do remember him saying amazingly erudite things about country / roots music. Wow, I thought. Unfortunately he eventually turned out to be exclusively interested in hip-hop. It is thus a long time since he and I have exchanged views about music.

TRACER HAND has a name so peculiar and interesting that I didn't know what sex he was (maybe 'Tracer' is a bit like 'Tracy'?), and also thought it might be a pen-name. But now I wonder if he is the latest in a long line, descending from Judge LEARNED HAND and his brothers, who made big legal decisions in NYC c. the 1920s. Maybe the Hands *always* have strange and interesting names.

TRACER HAND always writes with poise, wit, a sense of intelligence and control. Yet there is never any trace of arrogance or ego. In this self-effacing quality he feels different from much of ilx.

I can't really work out what TRACER HAND would be like as a real person. Is it true that he is very attractive?

the pinefox, Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't encourage him. It's like feeding a dog off a table, they'll never stop if you do it once.

Also: LEARNED HAND! I imagine is pronounced as "learn-ed" like fancy like. That's fantastic.

Tracer Hand is stunningly attractive, some might say Paul Barman like.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I was waiting for that reference. Now we shall see the hate.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

'Lernd', son. It's pronounces 'lernd'...

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Pinefox I am going to shush you again if you don't stop making me blush like this!! My name comes from a bull rider. This is a picture of him. He is the REAL TRACER HAND. His dad is a musician and has an album called Evil Things. I was emailed once by someone who knew Tracer Hand's father, and asked if I was the REAL TRACER HAND!! I had to tell her no.

http://www.gutsandglory.net/img/99.7-4.5.jpg

Gah, Paul Barman. AGAIN? I've got other buttons to push, you know.

TRACER HAND (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Even though I used to think Tracer was a wizened old biker dude, Tracer is really even cooler than that. And wizened old biker dudes are cool...

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:16 (twenty-three years ago)

If Tracer Hand worked at Radio Shack he would be sublime in his perfectness.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:23 (twenty-three years ago)

(Children should not push the buttons on TRACER HAND's "publics".)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Tracer, if he was a beer he would be budvar or tiger.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 20 February 2003 01:27 (twenty-three years ago)

There is one sad thing about Tracer Hand: He is so popular that one cannot always get a moment alone with him.

it looks liek you confused tracer head with mr diamond nordics!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 27 March 2004 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope:

that afterwards, back at home, head bobbing, etc. I yell out to roomie "why'd you turn the music off?" and he's like "what music?" He comes back in. He's looking at me like a lab specimen. "The stereo's been off the whole time." I look down at my hands. They look huge. "What did you think you were listening to?" Sheepishly: "really good house music!!"

five years pass...

I was just thinking how at some level I still think of the great Tracer Hand as refreshingly new to ilx, because he didn't post until perhaps mid-2001.

the pinefox, Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:00 (fifteen years ago)

From what I can tell, he's kind of like a happy-Lou-Reed-type figure with a lot of funny stories. He lives in London now.

hard to believe there’s no ASK TRACER HAND thread, but: where does the family stand of these coup du monde events?

mookieproof, Tuesday, 10 July 2018 02:54 (seven years ago)

four years pass...

Last night I dreamed that Tracer Hand made an LP, on which he did impressions of 5 different musical artists, twice each, adding up to 10 tracks.

I was amazed at the quality of the Bob Dylan impression. It was in 1980s Dylan mode, say INFIDELS or EMPIRE BURLESQUE.

Then there were two Ian Dury pastiche tracks. But I don't recall the rest.
