Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 24 February 2006 21:09 (twenty years ago)

I am DYING to see "absurdist" on-stage surfing.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 24 February 2006 21:10 (twenty years ago)

Best of all, the starring role of Keanu will be selected at random from the audience each night, and will read their entire script off of cue-cards!

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 24 February 2006 21:14 (twenty years ago)

Fuck, and I thought the Road House musical was the be-all end-all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 February 2006 21:14 (twenty years ago)

argh Tom and I will be in NYC March 17 but I don't think by 8:30pm :( :( :(

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 24 February 2006 21:14 (twenty years ago)

Oh I was so fucking crushed when that came to town and I missed it.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 24 February 2006 21:15 (twenty years ago)

x-post -- I will pay money if you get there early enough to take the role of Keanu.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 February 2006 21:15 (twenty years ago)

I WOULD LOVE TO

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 24 February 2006 21:18 (twenty years ago)

I like the scene where Angie Dickenson pounds mercilessly on Lee Marvin, but it doesn't even budge him - he literally doesn't blink - and she wears herself out and collapses on the floor.

What?

He may sport the only cool mullet in cinema history.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 10 August 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

Keanu is so good. But nothing will touch his role as a French Canadian goalie in Youngblood. Nothing. What's that line? "He's like fucking an animal" or something?

Will M., Friday, 10 August 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

eleven months pass...

I'd never seen this until last night, when I specifically rented it because I was so ashamed at this missing link in my knowledge of the world. And it did not disappoint. When I saw John McGinley and James LeGros in the opening credits I knew I was in good hands. Thumbs up to all the aforementioned lines, the smart casting of Lori Petty as Love Interest, hott bromance. And maybe I've just been ruined by today's editing, but I found all the action sequences really coherent and exciting, esp. the foot chase where teh Swayze just runs through peoples' houses all Ferris-style, picking up dogs and throwing them at Keanu, leaping fences, whatever it takes.

I will endeavour to share this fact with everybody I meet in future.

p.s Gonna watch this tonight.

g-kit, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 10:11 (seventeen years ago)

This movie used to be on TV at least once a month back in the 90s, kind-of like Zoolander. Thank god for Fuse, I almost forgot it existed.

Anthony Kiedis being shot in the foot is my favourite moment in this film. Presumably where he found the inspiration to hop around on stage like a cunt for the past 20 years.

my fucking pb memory: i returned from work in like 1992 to find my roommate again planted on the couch watching this rental for the nth time. we were at the "i hate you on sight- go ahead say something" stage of roommate-dom. bag and coat in hand, i looked at the tv, looked at him, rolled my eyes and blurted "o god. that patrick swayze, he's soooo dreamy."

boom! he vaulted from semi supine clear over the back of that couch in a nano second and was in my face with the "what the fuck you wanna go blah blah blah."

good times, good times. but, he has better taste in movies than me.

now is the time to winterize your manscape (will), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 14:04 (seventeen years ago)

well, the homophobia underlying the event grates on me as i think about it-- i may as well have said "omg you are such a fag about patrick swayze"! but the story is offered as to pure spiteful button-pushing, and its object is clearly not to cover either of us in glory.

iro with the brown bag (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 14:21 (seventeen years ago)

i'm sure this film has perpetrated lots of homoerotic tension btwn roomies

Kem Nunn ought to be namechecked somewhere in this thread. They ruined his book, but in a totally awesome way.

the curse of co-starring in a 1991 film w/ Keanu strikes again.

My Own Private Idaho (1991)
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991)
Point Break (1991)

will Alex Winter be next?

for all the exxxtreme-to-the-maxxxx action on display in this trailer i bet there's nothing as exciting as the sequence in the original where keanu chases swayze on foot over fences and thru alleys and houses, which remains fucking amazing

also this luke bracey guy does an amazing job of sucking the life from the screen every time he appears on it

bizarro gazzara, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 13:23 (eleven years ago)

swayze at one point throws a pit bull at keanu, which almost makes up for zero dark

ha! i forgot about the projectile pit bull.

as i recall that chase just goes on forever and it's great.

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Thursday, 28 May 2015 03:33 (eleven years ago)

watched this tonight, man I forgot how stupid the second half is. it's about on par with a 70s doctor who episode in terms of plot.

erry red flag (f. hazel), Thursday, 28 May 2015 03:42 (eleven years ago)

that was a first-rate chase

and yes it is deeply stupid, but not pernicious

the increasing costive borborygmi (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 28 May 2015 04:26 (eleven years ago)

some of the dialogue is kind of pernicious. it's pretty much an exercise in exuberance and style, and everything else is just wasted motion.

scheduled to be released on December 25

this remake looks like shit but 20 y.o. me would have loved spending Christmas watching the original

is going to the cinema on Christmas Day a thing in the US? i think they're maybe closed for the day in the UK

There was Bjork from Iceland and Alanis Morissette from Canada (onimo), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 14:18 (eleven years ago)

read today that the rock wants to star in a remake of big trouble in little china, confirming my suspicions that hollywood is attempting to fuck with all the movies i loved as a 15-year-old

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 14:20 (eleven years ago)

Christmas is still a massive movie-going day in the US, as is Thanksgiving. A great way to pass a couple hours with family; nobody is allowed to talk.

First movie I ever saw when I was high. Freaked out inside when Utah almost got his head shoved in the lawnmower.

I just googled when it was released on VHS and one of the questions google suggested was, "is Point Break based on a true story?"

Carlos Santana & Mahavishnu Rob Thomas (PBKR), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 12:00 (four years ago)

I just caught the second half of this last night. Loling at the part where the Ex-Presidents are so radical that when it comes time to make a bonfire, they don't open the container of lighter fluid, but stick a butterfly knife in it. Seems like a terrible bonfire/great way to set yourself on fire.

Carlos Santana & Mahavishnu Rob Thomas (PBKR), Monday, 19 July 2021 19:30 (four years ago)
