you can get an adapter that uses the weird lil - what is it? - svga out?, on your computer? & that transforms to hdmi

apple tv works just fine and I can also download to my pad to watch on the train. watched three films today. Very much hooked.

Today's film in Denmark is The Second Game, the film Corneliu Porumboiu made, consisting of a vhs-copy of a tv-game from 88 with him and his dad talking on top of it. That's arty. Also, it's pretty fun for fans of Porumboiu.

It was fun to watch at a film festival with an audience consisting mainly of football fans. I hope they got something out of it.

sadly my internet connection at home is too slow to reliably stream this, especially if i try to feed it through to my TV. i tried to watch "the strange little cat" that way and it stuttered every minute or so. but Mubi /is/ kind of amazing.

one for the ia thread maybe, got 1hr into diaz's melancholia and the stream started fucking up - sound going out of sync with picture. This has happened before, I know from experience that it will work fine on my tablet but do I want to watch the next 7hr of this film on a 9in screen? it's either that or, realistically, never see this film. v annoying

Watch Eduardo Williams' The Human Surge! I will definitely rewatch. When first I saw it, I didn't really think much of it, but parts of it has stayed with me and I've been thinking more and more about some of the stuff that it did.

The Gold Bug is a pretty great example of how to deal with weird co-production schemes as well. Fun film.

In the US they are all directed by either Mariano Llinás or Alejo Moguillansky.

Intend to see all apart from Extraordinary Stories which is four hours long.

I watched the very beginning of Extraordinary Stories and would have watched more if I had time. Also watched the first two sections of Balnearios which I really enjoyed, but again didn't have time to finish. Would definitely want to see both in the entirety. Probably better to see a four hour movie in a theater though.

Mubi always creeps up on me. I intend to watch another, then finally have to download to phone when something is expiring and I watch as match as I can before it is wiped.

Because it never got even a cursory release here, I'm going to count it as a 2024 film (the NYT didn't review it until March).

The final extended sequence is ok - but overall this film really tested the limits of my patience, and I could never sit through it again.

Oh, it's definitely a "great, wonderful, timely, important, masterpiece" movie I won't ever see again, probably

I just came back from seeing it. Blimey. It was so fun to overhear people chatting ad they came out the cinema, it was like they'd been on a rollercoaster rather than seeing a film. Should it have its own thread?

THE SUBSTANCE rocks

I hated The Substance. as subtle as a hammer to the jaw— i don’t appreciate films that drive their “lessons” home and treat the audience like a bunch of middle schoolers. awful film.

I watched Gasoline Rainbow last night, and it was incredible— a lovely film
about growing up, friendship, and being different.

'Moving' by Shinji Sōmai is a must-see, if it's on your local MUBI site. Saw it yesterday, amazing mix of children's story about parents getting divorced, and something much darker and more mysterious. With a camera that seems much inspired by Mizoguchi, but much more playful and warm. The last sequence during the credits is especially unique.

One thing I was hoping they'd have and don't is Andrew Noren's Kodak Ghost Poems, which gets prominent mention in J. Hoberman's book about New York art in the '60s. But I'm amazed at what is on there.

I definitely shouldn't have read the comments on that Vulture article.

Basically everything I've seen there is great, and I can't wait to see the rest. Saw a Vinothraj at Berlin a few years back, made me seek out Pebbles as well, he is one of the best new Indian underground directors recently, and they aren't always easy to watch.

It nearly stopped running last year but thankfully it's still around. I watched a lot of abstract, experimental film on it. Valuable resource though you can probably see a lot of the content on YT now.
