Gonna put money on Fergie's next signing coming straight from the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Matt DC, Friday, 20 January 2012 10:10 (fourteen years ago)

see, that's actually really offensive

I thought Utd-Chelsea already had that honour.

Piers Morgan though. At least he'd be a plausible supporter of either side.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 20 January 2012 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

yes i thought same

given that they'll be leading into the sf/ny game, I'd say a lot of those fans have at least heard of wayne rooney, and there'll be a sizable hispanic crowd that will of course know chicharito and many more

long duk dan (dan m), Friday, 20 January 2012 15:42 (fourteen years ago)

p certain ignasi miquel has a huge following

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

What's become of Carl Jenkinson? Any prospect of him reprising his OT performance?

Ismael Klata, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

He got a p big injury in November, 'out' and not a big enough name* to talk about when injuries are bought up so no-one really knows.

*We are given minute-by-minute details of Wilshere's recovery and Sagna and Gibbs will be back soon. Arteta and maybe Vermaelan should be fine for Sunday.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

Arteta's out says the guardian liveblog. Wilshere's been out forever, he'll be a man by the time he gets back.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

bugger super sunday tho, tomorrow the ANC starts - any good thread title suggestions?

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

Cameroon won't be on dis ting, because they didn't qualify - ACN 2012

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 16:23 (fourteen years ago)

I had a ticket for Sunday btw - I wasn't fussed about going, then changed my mind but by then I'd promised it to someone else. Feel unreasonably aggrieved about this tbh. It had better be awful.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:23 (fourteen years ago)

it's ok ref, i only called him negras (palancas negras is the angola manager) - acn 2012

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 16:25 (fourteen years ago)

arsenal-utd has about an 80% chance of being one of the best games of the season! last time it was 8-2! why the lack of fuss?

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 16:26 (fourteen years ago)

Botswana? I never even knew her! ACN 2012

Let's do it for Gaddhafi, ey guys? ey? ACN 2012

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I know. Utd have been mostly awful to watch was my thinking, then of course they briefly got good. If I get tickets for Spurs there'll be no such nonsense.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

awful to watch kinda falls away when there are lols/craziness/controversy to be had.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

Given how inept both Arsenal and United have been at the back of late there's no way this game isn't going to be brilliant and hilarious.

Matt DC, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:40 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah well :( You can get just as much fun from a grainy stream too, eh? I'm still kind of pleased that the red membership thing came up with the goods though, I thought there was no chance.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:41 (fourteen years ago)

on Thomas Vermaelen (calf)
At the moment I don’t think he will make it for Sunday. Let’s hope we have a good surprise. Let’s see how he develops. There may be a test. At the moment we just go day by day but he looks short.

on Mikel Arteta (calf)…
He has no chance. The earliest for him is Aston Villa.

on Thierry Henry…
He will have a test on Saturday. He has a calf problem.

on Jack Wilshere (ankle)…
There is positive news about him because he is back to running after he had a little setback with the inflammation of his bone. He is able to go outside and practice but he is a few weeks away.

on Bacary Sagna (ankle) and Kieran Gibbs (groin)...
Both of them are about two to three weeks away.

on Francis Coquelin (hamstring)…
He is three, four or five days away from full training. I did not see him on Thursday but he is not far away. He could be available for Aston Villa.

on Lukasz Fabianski...
He is fit again.

on Carl Jenkinson (back)…
He is like Wilshere. He is back running but it will be a few weeks.

on Andre Santos (ankle)...
He is two months away. He is progressing well. We planned 12 weeks and he is on schedule.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

Fabianski situation must be the real killer there.

Matt DC, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

Well it is either him or a 19 year old Argentine for the bench, so I guess it is a good thing?

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

iirc the Chelsea match was shown by Fox on a Sunday evening in the States, to compete with NBC's Sunday night NFL coverage, but of course the match had taken place 10 hours previously. (xp)

boxall, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

Come back Eboue, Balotelli just isn't the same - ACN 2012

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

Egypt will almost certainly win the African Nations Cup 2012

Matt DC, Friday, 20 January 2012 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

Smalling is back for Utd thankfully

Number None, Friday, 20 January 2012 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

egypt probably wouldnt have won even if they did qualify

The term “hipster racism” from Carmen Van Kerckhove at Racialicious (nakhchivan), Friday, 20 January 2012 17:04 (fourteen years ago)

american manager iirc

long duk dan (dan m), Friday, 20 January 2012 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

yeah egypt didnt qualify or was that the joke

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Friday, 20 January 2012 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

The African Cup of Nations really is taking place in Equatorial Guinea 2012

Ismael Klata, Friday, 20 January 2012 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

Hah, I'd just assumed they were in it.

Matt DC, Friday, 20 January 2012 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

some friends and I considered placing a large bet on egypt to win the ACN based on the belief that the gov't of one of the qualified nations would be toppled, thus clearing the way for teh pharoahs eventual triumph

we might have been slightly intoxicated when ginning up this plan

long duk dan (dan m), Friday, 20 January 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

the lions of téranga will not be equatorial guinea pigs: can 2k12

Suggest nicknaming the British Olympic football team, the Werewolves of London

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Friday, 20 January 2012 17:29 (fourteen years ago)

that would provoke a great hairstyle from beckham I'm sure

"We are like Arsenal. We've got good players, we always say we're going to win. And we miss out." - Ivory Coast won't win the African Cup of Nations 2012

Would suggest something tasteless about Togo parking the bus but won't.

gotta embrace the rich culture of African football stereotypes somehow.

Nigeria would be here but the grandkids are visiting: ACN 2012.

Natural ability, defensive naïvety and smiles on their faces: it's Euro 2012

Ismael Klata, Friday, 20 January 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

idgi grandkids

(govtname)mac (darraghmac), Friday, 20 January 2012 19:18 (fourteen years ago)

nigerian players are thought to be a lot older than their passport suggests and the joke suggests they are so old they have grandkids.
