It's a sheet of solid ice! The snow looks so strange, like shiny sculpted plastic!

Travel safe JoeStork! It's very weird out. "Light freezing rain mist" is what they are calling it. Teeny tiny droplets that freeze when they hit something. Mr. Jaq is thinking about going outside - he might end up glazed like a krispy kreme!

The pellet-y stuff is called graupel.
I had a really slick walk to work and, again, only 5 of us made it in.

okay so: it's really graupelling over here! the constant taptaptapping is a little crazy-making.

Hooray! A plan!

I figured out this morning what my neighbor was doing last night, shoveling the entire street. He was clearing area around the storm drains. Looking out there now, the ice layer is just getting thicker and thicker.

STILL steadily graupelling. this is madness.

still dumping thick snowflakes here. we have a good 7 inches of accumulation at least

Supposedly it's raining and heavily snowing in Redmond - gotta love all these microclimates.

after, what? 7 hours of graupel we now have snow. snow on top of ice on top of snow. things are not looking good for a trip to the airport tomorrow.

It's supposed to start raining at some point tonight and be 10 degrees warmer tomorrow (43 F for the low), so it might be melted enough!

ah thank you, that's good. except for the part about going back to work after going to the airport.

They've started sledding down Denny again.

I spent three hours shoveling the driveway today and we still couldn't get the damn truck up the hill. :/

such a crazy apocalyptic day, what with the snow hail sun gale rain stuff, and the massive power outage that shut down campus for the last half of the day. so weird.

just had another squall in gtown, hail this time.

a few blocks away, and we only got snow/rain no hail

this weather is positively...midwestern.
