I'm thinking we maybe oughta postpone quiz again...

kate78, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

Yes :( Oh well, I'd rather be warm and dry at home than slogging around lower QA looking for parking amid the wrecked and abandoned buses.

Jaq, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 22:42 (fourteen years ago)

...which is how I spent Sunday on First Hill.

kate78, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 22:45 (fourteen years ago)

Ugh. Wish I'd gotten home from Alabama earlier in the week, I would have been around to help you move. Did you get a pic of the van in the tree?

Jaq, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 23:03 (fourteen years ago)

still no snow but i left work anyway, on the boss's recommendation!

if it doesn't dump tonight the city will be full of very pissed off employees, of which i will be one.

lxy, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 00:26 (fourteen years ago)

Mr. Jaq saw something that said it probably wouldn't start in Seattle until tomorrow morning - but now will continue through Friday?

Jaq, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 00:27 (fourteen years ago)

lol @ "global warming"

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 00:41 (fourteen years ago)

mookieproof, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 00:42 (fourteen years ago)

I'm blaming Canada

Jaq, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 00:43 (fourteen years ago)

it's stopped snowing here, but we still have a solid couple inches on the ground. a kid just snowboarded down the hill.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 01:02 (fourteen years ago)

no snow here (Toronto). 9°c (not sure what that is in your devil temperature) and raining.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 02:01 (fourteen years ago)

lxy, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 17:08 (fourteen years ago)

Jaq, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

lxy, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 17:43 (fourteen years ago)

I'm one of 5 intrepid souls (aka people who live on the hills and can walk) who made it in today.

kate78, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 17:45 (fourteen years ago)

From my office, I can see people snowboarding down the Denny St. hill.

kate78, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 17:48 (fourteen years ago)

oh man! Sliding down Denny seems like it would shoot you all the way down to the waterfront!

Jaq, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)

On the upside, not a lot of traffic on I-5

stuck here in south tacoma, waiting in hopes that someone else will go get wood for the fire. is beautiful out, buried in white. just saw a squirrel hop out through the snow and dig around at the base of a tree for a stashed peanut.

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

probably 7-8" at this point, still coming down, though slowly

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

lxy, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 20:02 (fourteen years ago)

The Reverend, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 22:55 (fourteen years ago)

i feel like i'm the only person i know who's working today, walked about a mile and a half and took a bus. Tons of people out skiing, having snowball fights etc. Everyone at my job working day shift called out.

JoeStork, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 23:10 (fourteen years ago)

The NPR station over here on the other side of the state started today by saying something like "we're pretty sure that every school west of the cascades is closed".

School is closed tomorrow already here anyway because we're supposed to get a foot tonight but I'll believe when I see it.

buzza, Thursday, 19 January 2012 06:39 (fourteen years ago)

there has been snowboarding and sledding on my street today, but it's not nearly as steep as queen anne. we have a good half a foot of snow at least.

The Reverend, Thursday, 19 January 2012 07:30 (fourteen years ago)

It's a sheet of solid ice! The snow looks so strange, like shiny sculpted plastic!

Jaq, Thursday, 19 January 2012 14:10 (fourteen years ago)

very strange out. everything's so clicky. is it rain or ice falling?

lxy, Thursday, 19 January 2012 14:49 (fourteen years ago)

gotta get home (wallingford) from lake city in a few minutes, really hope the buses are running.

JoeStork, Thursday, 19 January 2012 15:01 (fourteen years ago)

GoodLuck, JoeStork

lxy, Thursday, 19 January 2012 15:12 (fourteen years ago)

thx, got a ride from my relief

JoeStork, Thursday, 19 January 2012 15:46 (fourteen years ago)

that is a relief!

lxy, Thursday, 19 January 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

Travel safe JoeStork! It's very weird out. "Light freezing rain mist" is what they are calling it. Teeny tiny droplets that freeze when they hit something. Mr. Jaq is thinking about going outside - he might end up glazed like a krispy kreme!

Jaq, Thursday, 19 January 2012 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

The pellet-y stuff is called graupel.
I had a really slick walk to work and, again, only 5 of us made it in.

kate78, Thursday, 19 January 2012 16:52 (fourteen years ago)

okay so: it's really graupelling over here! the constant taptaptapping is a little crazy-making.

good job grappling with the graupel, kate78. be safe, everyone!

lxy, Thursday, 19 January 2012 16:58 (fourteen years ago)

sister just texted to ask how we're managing so i was able to use "graupel" IRL already! thanks for the word, kate78!
