not killing yourself staying up after being fouled

Nani-esque fannydangle while winning, apparently?

At the Palace-Villa cup tie a couple of years ago, Stephen Warnock was sent to change his shirt twice because he got elbowed in the nose by a Palace player twice and kept bleeding everywhere. On one of them, Palace put the drop ball out for a throw opposite Villa's penalty area and contested it aggressively. Then when one of their players got injured towards the end, Milner did the same and their fans and players went nuts at him, resulting in entertaining 'I...what?' body language from the granite-hewn Yorkshireman

fucking right

modric conservative (darraghmac), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 11:32 (fourteen years ago)

spurs' pathetically baseless protests after roy carroll clearly saved the shot that never crossed the line.

I found the outrage about this particularly puzzling.

Barcelona XI @ Athletic Bilbao, 20 May 2006: Jorquera, Belletti, Oleguer, Jesus Olmo, Orlandi, Thiago Motta, Sylvestre, Ezquerro, Maxi Lopez, Giuly, Eto'o

Swansea XI @ Aston Villa, 2 January 2012: Vorm, Rangel, Caulker, Williams, Taylor, Britton, Agustien, Dyer, Orlandi, Routledge, Graham

Is this bit of trivia widely known? I thought I was a Swansea bandwagon-hopper in good standing but it took me months to catch.

Sylvestre in that side played for Blackpool last season too! (Barca had already wrapped up La Liga by this match, obv.)

boxall, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 19:51 (fourteen years ago)

haha yeah that line up is terrible tbh

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 19:57 (fourteen years ago)

Still counts!

Ancelotti: '"I was keen on a year-long sabbatical, hoping that in the summer a job like Tottenham or Arsenal – a top London bench – would become available, but I was tired of not working," he said.'

Interesting imo.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

there were lots of rumblings about him taking over from harry. and when i say rumblings, i mean my spud brother being sure it was going to happen and he reads spurs blogs and stuff.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 21:32 (fourteen years ago)

it would have been ok, would that imo

modric conservative (darraghmac), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 21:34 (fourteen years ago)

It's him confirming his thinking that's the interesting thing to me. Timewise there's got to be a good prospect of him succeeding Wenger.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 21:37 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno will he be out of psg that soon

modric conservative (darraghmac), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 21:38 (fourteen years ago)

He might find it respectable to walk in 18/30 months' time, with a title or two under his belt, is what I mean. Or they could just sack him.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 21:40 (fourteen years ago)

which

modric conservative (darraghmac), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 21:42 (fourteen years ago)

'title or two' says carlo, 'just sack him' says wenger yknow

modric conservative (darraghmac), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 21:42 (fourteen years ago)

if wenger doesnt make the top 4, i think the position may be open come june

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 21:43 (fourteen years ago)

newcastle sign Cisse from Freiburg, not a great replacement for Ba, seeing as he will also be at the CAN, but I wonder if any other clubs were in for him.

mizzell, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 22:01 (fourteen years ago)

spurs were trailing him for a while there- centre forward type?

modric conservative (darraghmac), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 22:21 (fourteen years ago)

His g/g record's as good as Ba's was before he arrived. pandemic likes him iirc.

What's new-era Newcastle's wage structure like? What caliber player can they attract before they begin to unsettle the current bunch?

boxall, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 22:29 (fourteen years ago)

when you're aiming to consolidate in the top 8 then you've no business paying over 50k so i guess they'll be ok

modric conservative (darraghmac), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 22:31 (fourteen years ago)

Also their biggest name star is probably Ben Arfa and he's not even a regular starter, so you've got to assume the XI are playing out of their skin for hunger rather than money. It's plain weird, the possibility that they might be pound-for-pound the best-run club in the country now.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 22:40 (fourteen years ago)

He's delivering on the entertainment quotient at least: Hatem Ben Arfa to be sued by French rapper over religious cult claims

tbh any club in the country shouldn't be looking to pay more than straight 50k per player (before performance related bonuses), bar the captain and top two names. but you know

tbh spurs may be even better pound-for-pound. although i guess the carroll money skews the outcome a bit.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 07:22 (fourteen years ago)

tbh need to stop saying tbh tbh

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 07:22 (fourteen years ago)

p sure there are no super quality strikers on the market atm

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 07:45 (fourteen years ago)

"What's so special about Arsenal is the family atmosphere and the warmth," Van Persie said. "When you come in here, you're always welcomed like a brother. Mikel Arteta (the summer signing from Everton) played against us for years but he walks into the dressing-room and he's one of us.

"The kit men, Vic and Paul Akers, have worked at the club for years. They love the club and they do everything for us; outfits, shoes, balls but, also, when I want to go to Disney on Ice, they arrange it. They represent the true Arsenal feeling and we've got some more like these men."

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 09:11 (fourteen years ago)

We're fucked.

another MLS goalscorer from the past couple of years is trialing with a struggling prem side -- sebastien le toux to bolton?

long duk dan (dan m), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

I'll take whatever we can get tbh.

encarta it (Gukbe), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 18:44 (fourteen years ago)

so not baller

Red Bulls defender (for now at least) Tim Ream was at Old Trafford on Saturday to take in Bolton’s Premier League match against Manchester United, a 3-0 victory for the Red Devils.

Reached by text message Saturday morning and asked if he was in the stands Ream responded, “No, in a box.”

When the U.S. national team defender was asked if he could handle a phone call later Saturday he wrote, “Yah, when I get a new international number so I’m not paying an arm and a leg.”

Ream, 23, probably will not have to worry about those expenses much longer. He is expected to be introduced by Bolton early this week in a deal that will substantially increase his modest M.L.S. salary from last season, which was listed as $62,625.

mizzell, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 18:46 (fourteen years ago)

definitely talent to be had on the cheap here -- le toux had a so-so 2011 w/ 11 goals in 34 games, but in 2010 he had 14 in 28, plus 11 assists. his salary for last year is listed at $179k.

long duk dan (dan m), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 18:49 (fourteen years ago)

It's just nice to be able to aspire to footballer wages for once.

(govtname)mac (darraghmac), Thursday, 19 January 2012 11:37 (fourteen years ago)

The adidas ones have been mostly rubbish. Too much going on. I hope the new guys revert to classic simplicity.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 19 January 2012 11:55 (fourteen years ago)

hmm.

Shanghai Shenhua claim they were in talks to sign striker Didier Drogba just a month after landing his Chelsea team-mate Nicolas Anelka. Shenhua owner Zhu Jun said: "It's like flirting with a girl. Perhaps she will resist you at first, but if you continue to ask her out, it always ends well. Never give up.

kid steel (cajunsunday), Thursday, 19 January 2012 12:09 (fourteen years ago)

Zhu Jun sounds like a rapey character.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 19 January 2012 12:12 (fourteen years ago)

Yes he does. a bit too rapey for my liking
