kurt vile apparently from philly. does he ever do local shows now that he's an indie darling? i love the album.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)
He used to play at Johnny Brendas like almost monthly but I don't think he's done that for a while

jealous that chicagilxors have such vibrant threads and there's like - just 3 of us here. anyway, I'm thinking about going to this on Sunday:

description:
An Intergenerational Event for All Ages: Featuring folk songs both old and new, theatrical gems from Second Avenue shows, Purim and Peysakh too!

I need a better idea of what stuff is happening in the city btw. We unexpectedly had a wide open free Sunday this last week and had no idea what to do. I couldn't google any cool events in the city (though I'm sure it was my googling skills that were deficient) and we ended up just strolling in Manayunk
― Mordy, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 03:12 (fourteen years ago)
according to j0rdan s., we shouldn't be jealous

Whoo!! What part of town? Where from?
― Joan Cusack clumsily running into a water fountain (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 13:09 (fourteen years ago)
We should definitely set up that Philly Phap!
― Mordy, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 14:08 (fourteen years ago)
From Miami to West Philadelphia... probably. That's where most of my people live.
― elan, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)
Okay, we should def FAP. Do you guys have any favorite bars? What times work best for everyone? I'm free the evenings of wed-fri and sun.
― Joan Cusack clumsily running into a water fountain (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 15:55 (fourteen years ago)
It's best for me to start before 7:30 bc of baby bedtime, but I'm pretty free every night except Friday. No bars I'm particularly fond of, though there are some nice places in Manayunk + in Ardmore if we're looking for location suggestions. Up for most anything, tho.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 16:00 (fourteen years ago)
How far are you from the Schuylkill? Maybe we could do something in west phl or ritt/logan square area?
― Joan Cusack clumsily running into a water fountain (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 16:06 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, I can travel a little. Just the further I have to go, the earlier I have to leave to be home by bedtime. Which isn't necessarily a problem. 6:00-7:30 could be nice PHAP.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

Stupid question: where can one get a decent haircut in Philly? I'm, um, a number of months overdue for one and kind of unsure what to do after years of terrible Supercuts in New Jersey.
― muus lääv? :D muus dut :( (Telephone thing), Saturday, 7 April 2012 02:03 (fourteen years ago)
I used to get cheap ones from students at Jean Madeline at like 4th and Bainbridge but now I go to my friend who works at Sulimay's Barber Shop on E Girard; excellent cuts for only $10

rest in peace, samantha. you were always so sweet and one of the first people I knew in Philly when I moved there in the 80's. You made an awesome thing and so many people loved you. bless.

off-topic, we ate here last week: http://www.vedgerestaurant.com/ - fancy artsy vegan food (from the guy who used to run Horizons way back in the day). pretty delish tbh.
― Mordy, Sunday, 10 June 2012 18:12 (fourteen years ago)
I have heard nothing but stellar praise for Vedge from vegans and omnis alike.

I went to the Mutter Museum, this brasserie off Rittenhouse Square called Parc, and Franklin bar, where there was a large contingent of people in sailor garb with the added innovation of suspenders. It's so fun here!
― Virginia Plain, Monday, 11 June 2012 04:04 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, those were Mennonites boozing it up
How was Parc? That place is always packed
― dell (del), Monday, 11 June 2012 04:18 (fourteen years ago)
It was good! I wouldn't have necessarily picked it, but my sister made the reservations. Tonight she wants us to go to a Peruvian-Cantonese restaurant?
We just negotiated my mom out of a bus tour of Philly in favor of a trolley to the liberty bell. If I remember correctly, there are cute stores in the historic area (are those just along Chestnut . . . or)?
― Virginia Plain, Monday, 11 June 2012 14:50 (fourteen years ago)
Nice work, heh. Yeah, if you walk along 2nd and 3rd just north of Market there are shops, galleries, etc. It's a nice area to walk around in... plus there is a coffeeshop that legendary radio personality Jerry Blavat ("The Geator") frequents. Alas, Danny Bonaduce left the neighborhood last year, but you can probably still drink in his spirit. Eww.
Chifa, hmmm, haven't encountered any feedback on that place. Sounds interesting tho. Cool, I've always been curious about that brasserie jawn
― dell (del), Monday, 11 June 2012 15:02 (fourteen years ago)
Funny, you don't strike me as a brasserie kind of guy.
― Virginia Plain, Monday, 11 June 2012 15:39 (fourteen years ago)
I don't strike me as being that kind of guy either, which may partly explain why I've never been there. I imagine that it's exactly like a cross between Arby's and Dunkin Donuts, except with outdoor seating, topless servers and maybe better coffee
― dell (del), Monday, 11 June 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)
Ha, we got rookered onto a double-decker city bus tour. :(

Our tour guide said that Ray's is the best place for ice coffee. True?
