Then in walked Barbara Castle with the Lady Eleanor (Tom D.), Monday, 16 January 2012 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

I think it's more that fergie's asked him to play all over the pitch because of the thin squad, rather than being consciously developed in that way. xp

get ready for the banter (NotEnough), Monday, 16 January 2012 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

Smalling is gonna be way better tho

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Monday, 16 January 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

i have been reading run of play on my kindle as late, technology imo

modric conservative (darraghmac), Monday, 16 January 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

Would have thought that positioning is as important at DM as it is at CB and therefore wouldn't fancy Luiz there at all.

pandemic, Monday, 16 January 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

older than time yet younger than theo walcott

nakhchivan, Monday, 16 January 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

there are many differences in midfield tho

luiz' recovery pace would be more efficient than at cb where its usually too late when the mistakes are made

but i dont think he would be a romeu-makalele type adjunct cb,, more a hyperactive gattuso

nakhchivan, Monday, 16 January 2012 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

Shld just play Luiz as a winger already

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

dude is also a serious sight charging fwd with the ball

Essien's return makes it a bit academic tbh

modric conservative (darraghmac), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

Essien is a bit too Owen Hargreaves in my mind now. But I guess if Ledley King can still play regularly, Essien has a chance.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

yeah he is impressive

but then lucio also looked like a storming attacking mid before he composed as a defender

nakhchivan, Monday, 16 January 2012 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

essien will be able to play regularly cuz he has had injuries rather than a debilitating condition a la king

he looked past his best before the injury tho

nakhchivan, Monday, 16 January 2012 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

luiz

You get the odd player like him on management sims, ability points assigned at fuckin random, fuck all good in any position

Abou diaby too i suppose

modric conservative (darraghmac), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:13 (fourteen years ago)

needs to bulk up, slow down and become big abou diaby

nakhchivan, Monday, 16 January 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

Abou Diaby is fine stats-wise for his AMC position and if he hadn't spent the 5 five years recovering from being shawx he would... aw fuck it.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:16 (fourteen years ago)

no, he's shit

modric conservative (darraghmac), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

arsenal youngsters since the invincibles that are failures/shit, a list:

modric conservative (darraghmac), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:23 (fourteen years ago)

big henri lansbury
big jay emmanuel thomas
big philippe senderos

nakhchivan, Monday, 16 January 2012 16:25 (fourteen years ago)

Others

modric conservative (darraghmac), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:32 (fourteen years ago)

a lot of british, not a lot of ~diversity~ xp

nakhchivan, Monday, 16 January 2012 16:32 (fourteen years ago)

Arshavin
Denilson
Rosicky (RIP)
Bendtner
All the defenders except Vermaelan

Matt DC, Monday, 16 January 2012 16:35 (fourteen years ago)

Oh shit we're talking about youngsters right? Scratch most of them.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 January 2012 16:36 (fourteen years ago)

Wilshere's basically the only unqualified success, right?

Matt DC, Monday, 16 January 2012 16:37 (fourteen years ago)

ya was gonna say, and i like bendtndnteter tbh

modric conservative (darraghmac), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:37 (fourteen years ago)

Failures is such a ghastly word to use. Would Barca fans think of Arteta as a failure now it has been a decade since he left? Also i dunno how you could call Rosicky or Arshavin youngsters. So...

Denilson (Brazil u18 captain when we signed him to big expectations; now not really doing much at Sao Paolo and still not in the Brazil team despite it not being a vintage Brazilian midfield)
Vela (Top scorer at the u17s, wanted by p much every big club in Europe, scored some beautiful goals; now has a 2-in-12 record at Sociedad)
Bendtner (Great case of 'being bigger than everyone during yr teenage years doesn't mean you'll be able to bully them when everyone has grown up')
Freeman (Youngest ever player in the FA Cup, now back in League 2).
Theo (Has there ever been such a high expectation for a player? Denilson at Betis maybe? Even if he goes on to have a fine career, he'll never live up to it.)

Just shit, with no expectation-

The Hoyte brothers
Traore
Mannone
Randall
Many guys I can't even remember

Players who may go on to have a decent career-

JET (he is more like darragh's description of the player with his stats out of cock and he was tried at Arsenal in every position bar goalie. Once he finds a manager who can figure him out, I think there is a talented player to be used.)
Merida (Doing decent as cover at Atleti - has v. good technique, which is a talent that usually shines thru in the end.)
Senderos (looks v. stable in the Fulham back 4 now, come on, admit it)
Lansbury (in a v. good partnership with Collison atm, looks like he will be a good midtable player one day)

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

failure for arsenal

That was imo obvious

modric conservative (darraghmac), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

Wilshere's basically the only unqualified success, right?

If we are going on the idea that Cole doesn't count and we are only looking at new Hale End Academy prospects, we also have to remember that we are only judging players under 22. As successes, I'd look at Gibbs (injuries only problem but talent wise, it is p much a given he'll take over Cole as the best English left back) and maybe Frimpong as well as Wilshere.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Monday, 16 January 2012 16:58 (fourteen years ago)

What about Ramsey?

Then in walked Barbara Castle with the Lady Eleanor (Tom D.), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

He has only been at the club 3 or 4 years, half of which were spent in recovery or on loan.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

wilshere not yet, ramsey not likely, gibbs not ever

modric conservative (darraghmac), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

Oh right, I didn't realise he'd come from Cardiff City (xp) Ramsey's not bad?

Then in walked Barbara Castle with the Lady Eleanor (Tom D.), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

Cole isn't a post-Invincibles player, so no he doesn't count. Fabregas does though. Ramsey is pretty good.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 January 2012 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

Ramsey will one day be a cracking player but he's nowhere near yet. He's currently Gareth Barry, needs to make the step to Steven Gerrard and from there can decide if he wants to do the work to go further.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:14 (fourteen years ago)

listen to better music

Alan Shearer (ken c), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:15 (fourteen years ago)

future carrick

modric conservative (darraghmac), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

^ cruel

Then in walked Barbara Castle with the Lady Eleanor (Tom D.), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

cruel but it is a possibility, i won't lie.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

For what it's worth: Part-owner of Swansea, Dutchman John van Zweden, today has said on Dutch radio that Man United, Chelsea, Spurs and Fulham all have been in touch with the club, inquiring after Michel Vorm.

I certainly wouldn't have, but hey. (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

He said Jol had actually dropped by Swansea, the others phoned.

I certainly wouldn't have, but hey. (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

that seems stupid at every single one of those clubs, considering they all have stable keepers. maybe not spurs, as brad is getting up in age.

not that transfers make sense.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

Don't shoot the piano player, but don't three of those (except ManU) have relatively old keepers?

I certainly wouldn't have, but hey. (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

and none of the unold keepers are undeserving of competition

modric conservative (darraghmac), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:37 (fourteen years ago)

Don't shoot the piano player

Fergie plays the piano, doesn't he?

Then in walked Barbara Castle with the Lady Eleanor (Tom D.), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

united: two young keepers, neither totally convincing. chelsea: cech imo is p shite nowadays. spurs: friedel is 40. fulham: schwarzer is also old as shit, wiki says 39.

zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:39 (fourteen years ago)

otm. Thought it was remarkable as this guy partly owns the club. He's on Dutch radio regularly now that Swansea are in the Prem. I heard him last night when he was in a restaurant dining with Augustien, Vorm, and English Swansea player and their wives. He certainly isn't diplomatic, he's rather tell all and not too bright from what I can tell, but amusingly honest and down to earth to listen to. Just a simple man living the dream iirc

I certainly wouldn't have, but hey. (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:39 (fourteen years ago)

also vorm's form is currently the best in the league imo.

zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

that otm was for deems tbh, but jim otm too

I certainly wouldn't have, but hey. (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 16 January 2012 17:40 (fourteen years ago)
