Is the "here's the thing" story common knowledge? If not, I'll tell you:

Years ago, Bagourtney, Jenny, and I were in the Ohio House diner eating breakfast after yoga. A few booths away there was a cop on a cell phone talking to a man named Terry. Terry was a tenant in the cop's rental hoe, and the cop was clearly not happy w/ Terry b/c Terry had numerous complaints. At first Terry seemed like the good guy because come on, angry cop landlord is not the most sympathetic type, but then it became apparent that Terry hadn't paid rent in many months and he probably sort of sucked at life.

The cop kept saying "Terry listen -- Terry you need to pay -- Terry -- Terry --" until he got fed up and said "Okay Terry, here's the thing: fuck you."

It was like found drama.

Hey, speaking of which, here's the thing: there's a Mamet play about lawyers opening at the Goodman this week. I've read the script, can't promise it will be great, but will at least have some good word nuggets.

(That said, there are cheap(er) previews this coming week--I would be up for going.)

Also, my friend Leigh, who saw Virginia Woolf and had dinner at Italian Village with us a few years ago, has her first novel out and will likely get famous.

(Us being me, Jesse, Jenny, Jeff maybe, and I don't remember who else.)

Re that play, I might want to see it? I mean, while I have come to think that Mamet might be a hack, I like his "word nuggets" as you say and I would like to see him put lawyers on stage. But what is deterring me is Mamet's unbearably stupid opinion pieces.

When do you want to come get it? I took down the CL listing just for you. And you are paying us in two ways: 1) carrying it out of the house and 2) making it so I don't have to answer emails like this "Let me ask you something does it have storage at the other side too?" or let the person who wrote that email in my house.

We will also be selling/giving to ILXors the following furniture items:

Green desk/armoire set (together or separate)
Vintage Lane cedar chest

The desk/armoire are not that great but would be awesome fix up pieces. The cedar chest is old, but really cool. It's just too big for anywhere we might want to put it.

Could you post a pic of the desk/armoire set?

I've never met her, but I vaguely recalled your being friends with her when I saw the novel on the front table at Book Cellar last weekend.

What kind of car do you have? I had that same kind of coffee table (EVERYBODY in the free world has that coffee table!) and I fit it in a hatchback. A Prius, I think. I don't think they're too hard to take apart, if you have to. The tables, not Priuses.

You have a hatchback, don't you? If you have fold the back seats down, you should be fine.

Yeah but I have a tiny hatchback, a yaris. It should fit, but it could stick out the back a bit.

Sara had that exact coffee table when I met her, so this will be exciting.

Amanda and I IMed earlier and I was going to go (not to dance, just to judge people) but then I got a Garfield grade nap attack at 8:00 and it was over.

I was in the depths of codeine-induced sleep. (Still coughing at night (and during the day, come or think of it), not actually addicted to codeine. Yet.)

The only thing to judge was that a Daily Show guy was doing stand-up beforehand and decided to try out an extra half-hour of new material. This meant that the club was at capacity, so there was a long wait to get in, until the comedy show let out. Other than that, some club-sapphic pairs of gals, just a few dudes being bros, a few pairs of dancers who took over big swaths of the dance floor, and other than that everyone was who there were and the music was all great.

Also guess what -- not tired, only had 1 beer, feeling good. Staying up til 4 isn't as taxing as it may appear! I've done it several times recently, in fact!

I was kidding about judging. And I was thinking about Jeff's advice to someone on ILX, "Dance like everybody's judging you." (who was that?)
