i half-watched The Firm and mostly just felt bad for Molly Parker

kinda hate that there's all this advance discussion & anticipation of the premises/concepts of upcoming episodes -- one of my favorite things about the first paintball episode or the My Dinner With Andre episode is that i had NO idea about them ahead of time, was a lot more exciting that way imo
― seasonal thug (some dude), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 14:24 (fourteen years ago)
too much hype kind of dampened the fun of paintball 2 for me.
― phantompenguin, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 17:19 (fourteen years ago)
well that was a 'sequel' so it's not like there even could've been much element of surprise (although i'm glad i didn't know in advance about the star wars theme of the 2nd half, since they did it better than i would've expected)

Me too. I had no idea about the Goodfellas homage until the freeze-frame and "As long as I can remember, I always wanted to be in a mafia movie." My first thought was, crap, a Family Guy-esque throwaway joke/non-sequitur. But they went full-Layla on that shit, and if I'd known about it ahead of time, it wouldn't have been half as fun.

yeah the Layla bit in particular killed me!
― Nhex, Thursday, 12 January 2012 01:50 (fourteen years ago)
According to the DVD commentary, a substantial portion of that season's funding was spent on the rights to "Layla." Worth it.

ratings horserace stuff: whitney/chelsea got decent-for-nbc ratings on wednesday, which, vomit. however, 30 rock, in community's old time slot, basically got community ratings (maybe a fraction higher), so there's some vindication that the nbc 8:00 time slot is poison.
the firm got even more hilariously low ratings after they moved it to thursday @ 10, so that might be yanked pretty quick here.
― fighting growlbacks bottomless spirit pit (reddening), Saturday, 14 January 2012 02:17 (fourteen years ago)
iirc, Community is still on its regular shooting schedule, so it's not inconceivable that a quick, Firm yank could result in, "You asked for it, America! Community's back sooner than expected!"

Isn't she supposed to be young Kitty Pryde (w/Annie's Boobs as Lockheed)? She didn't busty til later on in Excalibur.
(This has to be the nerdiest post I've ever made here.)

I kind of wish I had an action figure of this!
Also, still disappointed that we didn't get to see Jim Rash at the Golden Globes when the Descendants won.
― Nicole, Monday, 16 January 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)
i would buy all of those as action figures tbh

I'm just glad that I recognized all of the X-Men (although the last time I read it, Prof X had a regular wheelchair).
Also, love that Chang's/Nightcrawler's taped-on tail fell off.

Lilandra was the Shi'ar empress that Xavier ditched Earth to shack up with for several years; when he came back, he brought a ton of alien tech with him and massively upgraded the mansion's tech, inlcuding his wheelchair

Ha...yeah, I stopped paying attention around issue 165 or so, which is to say , #165 of The Uncanny X-Men. I realize now there are about 14 variations.

30 rock demo ratings were down from last week, so it's officially doing just as bad as community ever did. whitney/chelsea fell too thanks to american idol coming back.

― fighting growlbacks bottomless spirit pit (reddening), Saturday, 21 January 2012 09:59 (fourteen years ago)
Surprising they aren't going for the 10pm comedy hour again given that The Firm is doing worse than Prime Suspect.
― encarta it (Gukbe), Saturday, 21 January 2012 17:25 (fourteen years ago)
of all the things that have done badly in that timeslot since "ER" went off the air, trying more hourlong dramas is still probably a better gamble than primetime Leno, "The Marriage Ref," or six sitcoms in a row.
― @51TimesNo (some dude), Saturday, 21 January 2012 17:45 (fourteen years ago)
True, but 30 Rock did much better at 10 last year than their dramas and The Apprentice. When they pull The Firm I don't know that they have anything to replace it with.

^^^ this. Or a kickstarter that sent Whitney Cummings to outer space, thus clearing space for Community on NBC's schedule.
― Nicole, Monday, 20 February 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)
It'll probably occupy the place of the Chelsea Handler thing, because Whitney is still a winner (by NBC standards).
