winter coaches at toronto, that team is beyond basket-case status and has been for years

n'kufo was waived by seattle hours before their opening day match last season, iirc he didn't contribute very much there

bomb.gif (dan m), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:26 (fourteen years ago)

How's John Rooney getting on?

Number None, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:26 (fourteen years ago)

gone

bomb.gif (dan m), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

Noooooo! Still he got a trip to New York out of it, that's a success of sorts.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:29 (fourteen years ago)

is freddie still there

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:30 (fourteen years ago)

japan

bomb.gif (dan m), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:31 (fourteen years ago)

huh

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:33 (fourteen years ago)

hasn't been in the MLS in ages though has he?

Number None, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:34 (fourteen years ago)

anyway sorry for the derail, just think that if Gallas wants a last payday he'd be better off in Qatar than flying coach 2000mi cross-country to play against hungry Colombian 20somethings who have been getting poached from the top clubs down there left and right

xp yeah he left after 2010 and went to celtic

bomb.gif (dan m), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

oh wait i thought you were talking about Adu, who i see returned recently

Number None, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

just presumed he went there to play parttime/retire and never followed up on his career. (sorry dan)

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

celtic? well i'm less inclined to pay attention to scottish football than mls, which is saying something.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

np, he played half a season in Chicago, scored a few goals and hit up the clubs with Nery Castillo, then said so long and thanks for all the $

bomb.gif (dan m), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:37 (fourteen years ago)

nery castillo has scored five club goals since he joined shakhtar for €20m four and a half years ago

hegel-lacan girl (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:40 (fourteen years ago)

Claudio Caniggia turned 45 yesterday. If wikipedia is to be believed, he scored 122 goals in a 20-year club & international career. That's, um, not very impressive. Still, happy birthday Claudio!

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:41 (fourteen years ago)

probably still end up better value than Carroll etc

Number None, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:41 (fourteen years ago)

i can even remember ppl opining that was money well spent when castillo scored vs brazil in the copa america that year

hegel-lacan girl (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:42 (fourteen years ago)

i dont think there has ever been a fall as abrupt as that, even denilson had a couple of good years

hegel-lacan girl (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

Wrong thread, I suppose (is there a right one?), but tune into Sky Sports 1 for the poor man's El Classico right now.

Back Shift Backline (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:47 (fourteen years ago)

Crystal Palace v Cardiff (in an all-white change strip)

Back Shift Backline (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

the greek exchequer's el classico

hegel-lacan girl (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:49 (fourteen years ago)

today is making me sad only 4 people voted in my best playa ever poll. two of which were darragh.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:50 (fourteen years ago)

You want to do the 90s one? The iron is hot.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:52 (fourteen years ago)

mine was pretty much all 90s players anyway

Number None, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:52 (fourteen years ago)

there are probably like 20 ppl in the world who have seen a broad enough array of matches from 1955-present in order to make a thorough judgement

hegel-lacan girl (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:54 (fourteen years ago)

well yeah it was p much suggested at the time to be best players of our lifetimes

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:57 (fourteen years ago)

I've only just realised it's the Milk Cup semi-final, not a Championship game

Back Shift Backline (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:58 (fourteen years ago)

Pretty sure I voted for Mathias Sindelaar

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:59 (fourteen years ago)

looking back i actually got 7 votes (2 by darragh). and you didnt ismael, but you did vote for a player who currently plays for newcastle.

Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

iirc i used the methodology of 'sure enough about from what i've seen, no frontin'

can't remember votin 2x

carpy deems (darraghmac), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 21:05 (fourteen years ago)

carroll to newcastle, £15mil

ba to PSG

eh what can you do, that's just how max is (cozen), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 23:59 (fourteen years ago)

yeah???

til the power failure (darraghmac), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 00:09 (fourteen years ago)

it just gets overlooked beneath the rather too obvious messi/ronaldo top tier, which isn't actually a top tier so much as messi deciding when he wants to take his feet off c-ron's fingertips and watch him fall away

I share the general feeling that Messi and Ronaldo *shouldn't* be as clos as they appear to be - but in what areas do you expect Messi to improve?

(Thought the Swansea diss immediately following the above post was funny, and true enough as well.)

boxall, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 05:07 (fourteen years ago)

carroll to newcastle, £15mil

And Real Madrid are preparing a £30mn bid for Suarez. It's like Rafa never jacked it in to become a blogger.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 10:22 (fourteen years ago)

carroll to newcastle, £15mil

wishful thinking

pandemic, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 10:53 (fourteen years ago)

If the latter post qualifies as wishful thinking, how to describe the former?

Tom D (Tom D.), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 10:56 (fourteen years ago)

Torres back to Liverpool for £10m and the circle is complete.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:11 (fourteen years ago)

Torres to Atletico Madrid for €100,000

Tom D (Tom D.), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:16 (fourteen years ago)

Carroll back to Newcastle would have to rely on Newcastle having not squandered the £35million, or that fat Ashley didn't nick it all. Definitely wishful thinking.

Also, Carroll is a scumbag - Newcastle are a much more likeable team now they got rid of all the idiots like Bramble, Woodgate, Carroll, Barton, etc, etc. They'd be better off without him.

CraigG, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:20 (fourteen years ago)

They'd be better off with Ba

Poppy Newgod and the Phantom Banned (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:23 (fourteen years ago)

Barton went off at Matty Holland on twitter last night. For some reason.

Number None, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:25 (fourteen years ago)

let me guess, is it because Barton's a cunt?

Poppy Newgod and the Phantom Banned (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:31 (fourteen years ago)

Joey7Barton Joseph Barton
I have worked out that I probably love about 12 people in the world, I like about 35, I don't mind about 100, the rest of u, well can jog on

Number None, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:33 (fourteen years ago)

the EPL is more interesting than a few yrs ago cuz there are five high-level teams who play good football (citeh, tottenham, arsenal), intermittently play good football (ynahtid) or provide some sort of intrigue (chelsea)

in 2k7 or so chelsea and liverpool were both relentlessly dull relentless attritional crap and none of the lower-mid table 'can play a bit' sides could actually play like swansea are right now

While this is all true I sort of think the overall quality of the top teams is lower than in previous years. City obviously can score at will but can't actually defend that well, in fact no one can defend that well, there isn't an obvious Champions League finalist among the top teams, etc etc. But this doesn't actually matter as it's making for a MUCH more exciting league.

The quality of positions 5-10 or so is probably better than in previous years. I don't even think the relegation threatened clubs are that bad in relation to previous years - Blackburn look like they could stay up with a better manager in place, even Wigan don't appear to be a completely lost cause.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:36 (fourteen years ago)

There's no way Sam Allardyce's Bolton would get a sustained run in the top four or five nowadays.
