Grady, were you ever the type to add a location to your images? i.e. I once labelled a set as taken in 'Kingston,' and it guessed they were taken in Kingston, Jamaica (never been, know no one there) instead of Kingston, ON (been many times, many friends there).

Should steal this and post it on his status, but too chickenshit.

Ok, I'm mildly creeped out by this: I commented on a someone's status and subsequently got not one but two updates reading along the lines of "Some Guy (friends with Woman I Like Who Isn't The Person Whose Status Line This Is) also commented on...".

Lady Writer, Male Seether (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 01:39 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah if the status is public, any comments oyu make on that persons FB shows ujp on alllll his friends feed too.

I try not to comment on public posts, as a result (its easy to forget to check tho)

Yeah if the status is public, any comments oyu make on that persons FB shows ujp on alllll his friends feed too.

I get that, but I didn't finish the statement like I should have in my o.g. post. The updates I got read in toto (parentheses and all) like this: "Some Guy (friends with a Woman I Like Who Isn't The Person Whose Status This Is) also commented on The Person Whose Status This Is' Status."

Now I'm used to updates about comments. What throws me is the parentheses. I actually have multiple shared friends w/both these dudes, but--because facebook keeps tabs on these things--they single out this lady whose timeline I'll admit I click on a tad more than other, better friends, and we three guys--who just so happened to post in a row in another mutual friend's comments--apparently share as friends. It shouldn't bug me, but it does.

Adding to the ridiculousness of this thing is that I subsequently got another update for this same comments thread that went like this: "Some Guy (friends with The Person Whose Status This Is) also commented..."

NO...FUCKING...SHIT

Lady Writer, Male Seether (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 07:42 (fourteen years ago)

I'm also slightly drunk & high now (the status that started this all was about a party we all were going to.)

Lady Writer, Male Seether (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 07:43 (fourteen years ago)

i suggest that you take mushrooms before the party and interrogate everyone about changes to facebook comment notification while on mushrooms

Lady Writer, Male Seether (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 08:09 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I spotted the brackets, its just pointing out someone who isnt on your friends list has commented on a post you commented on of someone you are friends with. An unnessecary addition imo but I can see why they did it.

Probably good for the grandparents who would be all 'How did Jane Doe hack my account and become my friend???' 'Oh.. she's John Doe's friend'

I know, right? Seems like so much more like a Shatner or at least Nimoy thing to do.

its annoying to me how people think he is amazing at the internet and theyre always sharing that shit on facebook

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 04:17 (fourteen years ago)

I accidentally posted this to the ILM Facebook thread, where it will shrivel and die, so reposting here.

I get no real pleasure out of Facebook until I see a thread like this and then praise be to Zuckerberg.

I saw that a day or two ago and it seems so incredibly insane I'm having a hard time believing it happened. Or that people can be that nuts, more to the point.

Their names were anagrams: Maria Giny = Imaginary, Carol Tifiling = Fictional girl.

Yeah I figured it might be shenans. The giveaway was all the girl's friends going "you're so lucky to have such a devoted gf" bla bla there is no way somethign this OTT would happen around most sane ppl.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 22:49 (fourteen years ago)

phrasing this delicately bc rl but -- a certain student who went pretty self-evidently insane at an east coast university recently turns out to be friends w/ a number of ppl i know, and at least a handful of them have defended her vehemently even tho she is clearly off the rails. i don't think it's totally unbelievable that close friendship can blur craziness.

Mordy, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 22:50 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think it's totally unbelievable that close friendship can blur craziness.

Truth bomb.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 22:52 (fourteen years ago)

No, it's not. It's just the portrayal of the craziness for pure lols is kind of on the nose to me.

Plenty of crazy fish in the sea, don't know why dudes insist on inventing them.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 22:53 (fourteen years ago)

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 22:58 (fourteen years ago)

Oh balls. After seeing the kind of stuff that ends up on Lamebook, Failbook, etc, this was easy to believe. Agree with VegemiteGrrl - it's unnecessary to invent craziness on Facebook but I guess they didn't know that someone else would post it with the names blacked out (hiding the obvious anagrams) and make it go viral. I quite like this quote: "In retrospect, midterm season probably wasn't the best time to pull this off because since the story's gone viral, I haven't had much peace. I guess in the end I trolled myself most of all.”

Suede - the fabric, not the band (DL), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:03 (fourteen years ago)

Actually im p sure a lot of whats on failbook is made up these days too.

men are afraid of women, part XXXXXLVI in a series

lukas, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:11 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I saw that one too. I have hard time believing kinds of things are real anymore.

(Besides, they always self-explain way too much for the benefit of the reader, which is just bad writing to me, lol.)

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:15 (fourteen years ago)

made-up stuff precisely like this w/"crazy girls" sometimes reads like it comes from the same venn diagram circle as 'mccain campaign worker gets attacked by crazy black man in PA'

omar little, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:15 (fourteen years ago)

really w/r/t the "ex-gf stalking" stuff, which i see a lot of for some reason. idk.

omar little, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:17 (fourteen years ago)

it's kind of a comedy meme atm, like those android commercials with the technologically up-to-date stalker girl

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:18 (fourteen years ago)

I dunno, I guess it satisfies some need in people to feel less crazy than everyone else. Like, "oh well if that's crazy then I'm okay."

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 23:20 (fourteen years ago)

If I find out the ones where a student's mum misunderstands a sexual reference and uses it an unwittingly hilarious way are fake then I'm boycotting the internet.
