Traditional FA Cup thread title would involve a shout out to Tamworth or Fleetwood Town or someone.

The last time I can remember watching LFC on a Friday night we lost the League to Arsenal.

pandemic, Friday, 6 January 2012 17:46 (fourteen years ago)

You didn't catch last week's game then?

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 January 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)

Who did we play last Friday? Newcastle? I didn't see it no, but I must admit I forgot that was a Friday.

pandemic, Friday, 6 January 2012 18:18 (fourteen years ago)

I tried to buy a can of lilt from a shop, possibly a baker's, in 1991, while cycling from Lincoln to Edale in the Peak District.

Back Shift Backline (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 6 January 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

They made a thing in the commentary last week of it being the first Friday night game at Anfield since the Michael Thomas one.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

Wait, you *tried* to buy? What mishap ensued?

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 January 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

They couldn't understand what I was saying.

Known in my house as the 'Barnes needlessly goes for goal when he should just waste time in the corner' one.

It was in a little place called Clowne. I asked for a can of lilt. They looked baffled and kept saying 'akanalil?' to me. They had plenty of it in the fridge behind them. I appreciate it's probably extremely rare for someone from down south to venture into their bakery, but I don't think I have an impenetrable accent. Surely they watch TV?

Back Shift Backline (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 6 January 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

Were they dazzled by your pearly suit?

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 January 2012 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

I did have mouthful of jellied eels, tbf.

Back Shift Backline (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 6 January 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

I had to google lilt to have any idea what you f***ers were talking about.

I did go into a tailor in London once, when my jacket or trousers needed fastening, and had a conversation like so:

"have you got a pin I could have please?"
"you want a pen?"
"no no, a pin"
"ah right, you're looking for a pin"
"yes"
*reaches into pocket, produces pen*
"why would you come in here to buy a pen?"

2209: In what may be a record, Manchester United and Wayne Rooney have issued a statement in which they have described a newspaper report that the England striker is about to leave the club as "nonsense". That was very fast work at Old Trafford.

2207: Frank Lampard to leave Chelsea, Wayne Rooney to leave Manchester United? This month's transfer rumours have certainly started in a big way. It's hard to imagine him leaving Old Trafford before the end of the season, but stranger things have happened. Where would he go?

2157: Some news from tomorrow's newspapers to bring you here, as the Independent reckon that Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to let Wayne Rooney leave Manchester United due to a breakdown in their relationship. That would be massive.

Liverpool have been thrust into another race hate row, after a fan was arrested on suspicion of racially abusing Oldham player Tom Adeyemi.

The incident occurred towards the end of the FA Cup tie, when a fan screamed abuse at the young full back, and visibly upset, he turned to confront the man.

Adeyemi was visibly upset, and seemed to be in tears. Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard moved across to the corner of the ground where the incident occurred, and comforted the 20 year old.

Eye witnesses saw two fans wearing Luis Suarez t-shirts, and heard one of them clearly shout "You f***ing black b***ard".

Police immediately moved in to restrain the two suspects, and later confirmed arrests had been made.

Who could have possibly thought Suarez would behave badly after behaving badly in Holland and setting the wrong example in England?

I certainly wouldn't have, but hey. (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 6 January 2012 22:46 (fourteen years ago)

http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2012/01/breaking-news-oldham-player-in-tears-at.html

To be honest, there is so much anger about how Suarez has been treated by all these politically correct nobodies coming out and accusing Liverpool and Dalgish of this and that, I couldn't give a shit. I grew up on the banks of the Mersey, I'm a pure working class and I don't have time for all these liberal idiots. It's the FA's fault for lying. Have you been reading the Daily Mail all week?
...
I'm not suggesting the Oldham lad deserved it but if he was racially abused then it goes to show you that it doesn't really exist any more as he was shocked. So all this rubbish about racisim in football is just rubbish. Stoked up by idiots like Jason Roberts.
I live away from Liverpool now and constantly hear Scouse 'jokes'. Is that not a form of racism?
