Someone got paid for designing that?

Tom D (Tom D.), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:01 (fourteen years ago)

I know right? In the article it's being argued that the player on the left isn't by default offside, only if he touches/accepts the pass, which is true. But you'd need one hell of a huge coin to get all that in. As it stands the coin's ok I think.

I certainly wouldn't have, but hey. (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:02 (fourteen years ago)

the guy stood offside isn't offside if he doesn't take the pass is the argument from some tedious pedant. clearly this is because the current interpretation of offside is really sensible and good.

£2 coin might be big enough, you could put the fine print round the edge

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 January 2012 14:03 (fourteen years ago)

Tom D was 'tony hart land', it's just occurred to me

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 January 2012 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

Maybe the other side of the coin says any player in an offside position when the ball is played is no longer automatically penalised. It states: "It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position."

Instead, for the past 17 years assistant referees have been told to wait and see whether a player in an offside position becomes involved in active play, either by "interfering with play, or interfering with an opponent, or by gaining an advantage by being in that position". That means that if the midfielder on the coin passes to the striker on his left, but the striker chooses not to play the ball or interfere with an opponent, he is not offside and play continues.

y'know, in really tiny letters.

I bought a Lilt at lunch time, fwiw.

How'd you work that out?

Tom D (Tom D.), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:06 (fourteen years ago)

I dunno, it was bugging me the whole time sandbox was up and it just came in a flash there - I'm not analysing it lest I'm miles out

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 January 2012 14:07 (fourteen years ago)

put "If a player is not interfering with play or seeking to gain an advantage, then he should be!" around the edge xpost

I was otherwise very normal before I became (onimo), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:08 (fourteen years ago)

Tom D (Tom D.), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:09 (fourteen years ago)

I certainly wouldn't have, but hey. (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:12 (fourteen years ago)

the white plies (Noodle Vague), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:13 (fourteen years ago)

lol at you guys actually treating a daily mail rumour about bloody fatty lamps going to utd

Oh, it *is* real, btw - Ferguson is trying to get him. Whether it will actually happen is another matter.

Back Shift Backline (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:14 (fourteen years ago)

problem with that coin is i didn't design it. if i did it would be a man getting the ball first and being given a straight red anyway.

caek, Friday, 6 January 2012 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

photoshop your london 2012 50p coin design here

Alan Shearer (ken c), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

Alan Shearer (ken c), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

Fuck the Olympics, leave football out of it (not literally)

Tom D (Tom D.), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

Will be sure to bear this diagram in mind if I ever go for a kickabout with the Mr Men.

Matt DC, Friday, 6 January 2012 14:21 (fourteen years ago)

'Arry hasn't heard of Ganso. Doesn't get to Brasil too often apparently (kind of odd that Spurs are being linked with him anyway)

Number None, Friday, 6 January 2012 14:31 (fourteen years ago)

not too many flight deals to brazil

Alan Shearer (ken c), Friday, 6 January 2012 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

kept Ronnie Biggs out of harm's way long enough though

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 January 2012 14:46 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I saw that, how's it wrong? It indicates two passes, one's offside and the other isn't.

there are no defenders in front of either of them, making them both offside?

I am Newgod (a hoy hoy), Friday, 6 January 2012 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

Remiss to leave yourselves without Gervinho and Arshavin slappers, Arsene needs to get busy.

honestly, we can't be worse with aoc, miyaichi and benny noon getting some games. we could even be better. wilshere will be back soon too, and he started as a right winger.

I am Newgod (a hoy hoy), Friday, 6 January 2012 15:29 (fourteen years ago)

yeah that coin makes no sense to me

Number None, Friday, 6 January 2012 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

the squares are defenders (one goalie, one alongside the onside guy), the pointy up arrows are attackers.

I was otherwise very normal before I became (onimo), Friday, 6 January 2012 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

I've forgotten all I ever knew about Miyaichi. Also, what happened to Park?

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 January 2012 15:34 (fourteen years ago)

ah

Number None, Friday, 6 January 2012 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

Also, what happened to Park?

He played and people realised he was teh rubbish

Tom D (Tom D.), Friday, 6 January 2012 15:46 (fourteen years ago)

carpy deems (darraghmac), Friday, 6 January 2012 16:26 (fourteen years ago)

back when you could kick a ball in the street, the fa cup used to mean something & you kill a black man without being arrested 8 years later - but now its just FA CUP 11/12

I am Newgod (a hoy hoy), Friday, 6 January 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

not loving this strain of suggestion tbh

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 January 2012 16:30 (fourteen years ago)

CraigG, Friday, 6 January 2012 16:36 (fourteen years ago)

Traditional FA Cup thread title would involve a shout out to Tamworth or Fleetwood Town or someone.

Matt DC, Friday, 6 January 2012 16:37 (fourteen years ago)

carpy deems (darraghmac), Friday, 6 January 2012 16:41 (fourteen years ago)

I goddamn missed the meaning of 'lilt' and feel so out of the loop now ;_;

I certainly wouldn't have, but hey. (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 6 January 2012 16:46 (fourteen years ago)

I totally misread that and for a second thought Fleetwood Mac were in the FA Cup third round

EZ Snappin, Friday, 6 January 2012 16:48 (fourteen years ago)

lilt is not a meaning it is a totally tropical taste
