weather up is one of the worst bars in a neigborhood with no shortage of crappy bars.

ian, Sunday, 4 January 2009 02:04 (seventeen years ago)

i went there once

❤¯\㋡/¯❤ (ice cr?m), Sunday, 4 January 2009 05:01 (seventeen years ago)

yeah same. it was ok. not really hot to go back

dmr, Sunday, 4 January 2009 06:01 (seventeen years ago)

i dont really want to get pulled into defending the place since i have no real allegiance for it but it didnt seem like such a terrible place to me, it just has a 'steez' and i guess if u dislike the 'steez' youd probably hate it but... why would you go to such a bar in the first place.

2) Prospect Heights: It's so nice when proprietors do the work for us: "I wanted to "tip" you guys off on a new place in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. Its called Cornelius and is the collaboration of the folks from Franklin Park, Soda and Le Gamin. The focus is many, many, many whiskeys, bourbons and vodkas and I'm serving up some American comfort small plates. We are opening Monday, January 12th. Please come check it out. Cornelius is at 565 Vanderbilt Ave. at Pacific St." Nice presentation and approach for Brooklyn, go early and brace for crowds. [POST-PLYWOOD]

I ate at Bellavitea last week and kinda wondered how Tipsy wound up liking it.

Re: expensive cocktails I'm tempted to say it's something you're best off going all in on -- e.g., if you want to have a fancy-cocktail night, go to one of the first-wave places with $20 drinks and enjoy them and don't worry about it,* because I get the feeling any place jumping on the trend and serving tiny $10 fancy cocktails is going to be a bust, in addition to making you stand at the bar watching drinks get mixed exactly twice as often.

(* If this is really difficult, maybe the trick is to have beans for dinner at home and just figure the hundred you dropped on fancy interesting drinks everyone loved and discussed might even cost slightly less than what you'd spend on a nice restaurant and five regular-priced drinks.)

nabisco, Wednesday, 7 January 2009 23:02 (seventeen years ago)

okay I don't think how one feels about Weather Up has anything to do with liking expensive cocktails or not. I am one of the primo cocktail snobs on ILX and I love the hell out of snooty cocktail bars but I called that place out for being shit on this thread months ago.

Mordy, Thursday, 8 January 2009 02:57 (seventeen years ago)

that place isn't even the best vegan restaurant in NY, nevermind restaurant as a whole

Tina Fey's narrative bonsai (I DIED), Thursday, 8 January 2009 03:06 (seventeen years ago)

What do you like more?

Mordy, Thursday, 8 January 2009 03:20 (seventeen years ago)

this display name has the potential to be epically sexy (tehresa), Thursday, 8 January 2009 03:29 (seventeen years ago)

It's not a category I've explored much but pure food and drink is pretty impressive.

Tina Fey's narrative bonsai (I DIED), Thursday, 8 January 2009 03:33 (seventeen years ago)

sorry, I mean pure food and wine

Tina Fey's narrative bonsai (I DIED), Thursday, 8 January 2009 03:34 (seventeen years ago)

Had brunch with wife's fam at Ocean Grill. Is this place supposed to be good? SUCKED.

autosocratic asphyxiation (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

Not only was food bad and overpriced, but tables were super cramped in so that I could barely breathe, waiter couldn't get around the table and had to hand stuff to us, and at the end of the meal they gave us customer-satisfaction cards! Which I actually wanted to fill out and complain except I was more insulted by the idea of having to fill one out in a proper restaurant at all.

autosocratic asphyxiation (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 02:37 (seventeen years ago)

haha ouch

Surmounter, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 02:39 (seventeen years ago)

it's questionable that ocean grill is a "proper restaurant," it's owned by b.r. guest.

autosocratic asphyxiation (Hurting 2), Thursday, 5 February 2009 20:22 (seventeen years ago)

srsly tho all their restaurants hand out comment cards, it is totally weird to do so when you're trying to kind of elevate your brand to high mid-end to throw in comment cards.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 5 February 2009 20:29 (seventeen years ago)

ice cr?m, Thursday, 5 February 2009 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

the couple times i've been in one of their restaurants, i've really been tempted to write filthy cracks on these comment cards, i gotta be honest. literally the only thing stopping me is pity for the waiter.

ilx qnz brigade: arepas cafe in astoria - yes/no?

yes, the reina, which is basically chicken salad with avocado was great. Not as many veggie-friendly options as Caracas, who's new location in Williamsburg is larger then the nightmare that is the one in the east village.

dan selzer, Thursday, 5 February 2009 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

lol i seen some realness @ e village location

ice cr?m, Thursday, 5 February 2009 20:38 (seventeen years ago)

oh! buttermilk channel in south carroll gardens is very good. we had sweet potato & goat cheese croquettes which were delicious, then alex had the thurs rabbit special and i ate the duck meatloaf. both dishes were very tasty! a little $$$$ but whatever, it was nice there. owner was all gregarious and shit too since it's newish. they also had a merlot from brooklyn oenology that i'd never tried that was quite nice, kind of smoky. a++

tonite i think we're going to try char no. 4!
