Alan Shearer (ken c), Thursday, 5 January 2012 11:24 (fourteen years ago)

Rousing stuff alright, I'm a human dynamo now.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 5 January 2012 11:30 (fourteen years ago)

true, true.

Alan Shearer (ken c), Thursday, 5 January 2012 11:37 (fourteen years ago)

let me add that i also thought liverpool were quite good against city the other night

this is madness

Number None, Thursday, 5 January 2012 11:47 (fourteen years ago)

not really, they dominated possession, they just were poor at using it to create chances. in the first half they played quite good football. 3-0 flattered city at any rate.

When a German communicates, you listen (LocalGarda), Thursday, 5 January 2012 12:00 (fourteen years ago)

Yes, City were quite happy to let them dominate possession as there wasn't a hope in hell they were going to score. Liverpool had no plan beyond lumping it to Carroll and I lost count of how many of their crosses hit the first man. Can't remember them creating much beyond a tame enough Adam (who was beyond awful) free-kick.

Number None, Thursday, 5 January 2012 12:10 (fourteen years ago)

6-1 flattered city too but they're still going to walk it, aren't they?

Alan Shearer (ken c), Thursday, 5 January 2012 12:26 (fourteen years ago)

i thought liverpool were very good in spells too. They just lacked the final ball.

(Algerian Goalkeeper) Vs (Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker), Thursday, 5 January 2012 12:39 (fourteen years ago)

possession is the most mendacious stat in the game, it's about how u use the ball. a lot of world class teams will let the opposition have as much possession as they want in non-dangerous areas.

the white plies (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 5 January 2012 12:47 (fourteen years ago)

not if they're actively first to all the 50/50s. city played a v dangerous game and were giving it away constantly, yes they defended well but no good team sits back with that amount of carelessness. the fact liverpool weren't good enough to punish them doesn't exonerate them. possibly just a lack of confidence based on some bad results but that was like trapp or benitez style once they went two up.

When a German communicates, you listen (LocalGarda), Thursday, 5 January 2012 12:50 (fourteen years ago)

well i'm not thinking specifically of Liverpool in that match tbh, i've seen too many Wolves games (and others) where somebody says we played well cos we knocked the ball about in the middle of the pitch all day and had 1 shot on target.

the white plies (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 5 January 2012 12:53 (fourteen years ago)

fuck the pundits' attitude to the resurrection of St Gerrard btw but i think there's something to the idea that he's the only Liverpool midfielder who's realised that Carroll will only be any use if he gets early crosses to his head.

the white plies (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 5 January 2012 12:55 (fourteen years ago)

Carroll plaintively entreating his team-mates to "whip it in" in the centre circle before the kick-off was a rather pathetic sight.

Number None, Thursday, 5 January 2012 12:58 (fourteen years ago)

he's rubbish with his feet for a big man

the white plies (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 5 January 2012 12:59 (fourteen years ago)

fuck the pundits' attitude to the resurrection of St Gerrard btw

OTM. Liverpool fans don't even like the cunt.

Tom D (Tom D.), Thursday, 5 January 2012 13:10 (fourteen years ago)

^ sorry, went at bit Boaby Gillespie there

Tom D (Tom D.), Thursday, 5 January 2012 13:10 (fourteen years ago)

mourinho's inter vs barca was the apex of 'possession is for wankers' tactical approach imo

carpy deems (darraghmac), Thursday, 5 January 2012 13:29 (fourteen years ago)

as a rule i like possession football better than counter-attacking, but the bare percentages in the match stats tell you very little

the white plies (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 5 January 2012 13:31 (fourteen years ago)

Andy Carroll's woes at Liverpool continued with a poor display in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, but statistically he is at the club that suits his game the most. Liverpool attempt 30 crosses per match in the Premier League this season, more than any other – Everton are next best on 27 per match, with Manchester United on 26.

While this figure doesn't take into account the position of the cross, nor the quality of the ball played into the box, it's still staggering that Liverpool cross the ball into the box every three minutes. Whatever the reason for Carroll's poor form, it certainly isn't a case of Liverpool not trying to play to his strengths.

doesn't take into acount the lack of support or runs coming into the box either, half the idea of a big man is making life miserable for centre halves so ferrets like bellamy or maxi can pick the loose balls off. None of that at all in the last match.

He's still a good player, like, but at United? Now?

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 5 January 2012 22:36 (fourteen years ago)

From looking at the front page of tomorrow's Star i now also know that Georgia Salpa is going to be on Big Brother. A day which will live in infamy.

Number None, Thursday, 5 January 2012 22:41 (fourteen years ago)

And Drogba to Villa? That would be superb.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 5 January 2012 22:48 (fourteen years ago)

SALPA

carpy deems (darraghmac), Thursday, 5 January 2012 22:52 (fourteen years ago)

Drogba to villa is three years too late, they needed a proper CF back when they had Young and Agbonlahor taking teams to pieces and a CB pairing of Laursen/Mjellberg

carpy deems (darraghmac), Thursday, 5 January 2012 22:52 (fourteen years ago)

if Lampard goes to United he'll get to visit Molineux again this season, what a treat
