finally finished the workmanlike jura last week, shelf atm reads p boring- paddy (purely for toddies), jack (purely for coke), bushmills and jameson so i've got an excuse to go hunting soon

xp yeah boxall but i think a few repped for the more agéd bottles itt and i couldn't really make out the lettering on the other bottles at the time tbph

sometimes i just notice the phenols/brine and it's a bit much

deems u should try the sainsburys irish single malt if u are going over the border, cheaper and better than jameson's imo

Got sold on a bruichladdich 12 and I don't know how I feel about it. Ledaig 10 is p delish though I am really just getting into scotch. I know I like the skunkier stuff tho it makes yr piss smell the next day

the disaffection is probably more subjective, you ought to ask yourself 'what did this whisky mean to me, and have things changed between us?'

Cold weather is here, so I bought a bottle of Michael's Celtic Irish Cream. I didn't have any ice cubes made yet, so I am starting with some Dalwhinnie. When the ice is ready, I am taking a bath.

i had to go through the thread to see what your most recent acquisition was, krakow. what did you think of the russell's reserve rye?

I've enjoyed it so far. I've found it to be subtler than the bourbons I know - a different kind of sweetness. It's been a while since I last tried it though, so I will do so again this week...

interesting - i always think that ryes are a lot livelier than bourbons.

so my kitchen has been under renovation for a week now--no counters, no sink, had to move my entire bar to the living room floor. only thing to do is drink cheap-ish whiskey out of the same glass every night. it's been a great time to revisit dickel #12 which is still so great, so unknown, so underappreciated.

Just picked up bottles of Willett 18-year "No Chemists Allowed", Ardbeg Uigeadail, Old Pulteney 17, and replenished my stores of Eagle Rare 10, Rittenhouse 100 proof, and Jameson. Oh lovely whiskey day!

In typical Willett uncut/unfiltered bottling fashion where they get stronger as they age and bottle them that way, the Willett 18 is 142.4 proof. Crazy. Always easier to add water than to take it away though.

let me know how that willett is! i just heard about the bottling and am pretty interested.

Yeah there's a distributor here that buys casks and does each as a bottling, so they only yield 100-150 bottles of each series. Mostly they go to bars in the area but a few go retail.

that's fantastic--really wish someone around here would select some willett/kbd barrels like that.

my dad bought us a big jug of Bulleit bourbon over the holidays. Definitely more spicy than the Buffalo Trace I had been enjoying, but still good.

lately drinking rowan's creek and old overholt. when i can't find rittenhouse around for cheap, overholt is my next go-go whiskey for everyday drinking. also got a bottle of elmer t. lee for my birthday from co-workers but that did not last long.

The fact that Old Overholt is generally available for $11-13 a bottle (around here at least) is a godsend that means people have no excuse not to drink well.

there was a (previously opened) bottle of old overholt from 1935 at my grandfather's house. we all sampled it. held up pretty well!

I rarely make mixed drinks at home, but last night I enjoyed a rye + grapefruit soda.

I went to a wheat whiskey tasting flight during the sandbox and actually took notes cuz of this thread, but all I remember now is that Spokane's Dry Fly Wheat was surprisingly delicious, light and a bit sweet.

I can just imagine all my Kentucky friends wrinkling their noses and saying "that ain't whiskey"

they only had weller 7 year and weller 'antique reserve' at the place I went to, so I got the natique reserve

also panicked when I thought i couldn't locate george dickel on the shelf, spotted it just as I walked out *phew*

i think the antique is also 7 yrs fwiw

both of those wellers are great! only diff between the two for now is the proof i think.

sazerac is.....not my favorite but lots of people like it and it's certainly worth trying.

Picked up a bottle of Buffalo Trace for when I run out of Knob Creek and/or the Old Weller 107 I have lined up. But frankly I'm confused these days by how many of these whiskeys come from the same place. Like, Buffalo Trace alone produces some 15 or so, from Sazerac to WL Weller.

went to the liquor store nearest my house yesterday and their whiskey section was ridiculous, but not in a good way!

they had:
Evan Williams
Old Williamsburg
Redemption Rye (this is what I got)
and some low, low level scotch called SOMEthing like "Scottish Warrior" or "Highland Rebel" or something. i think it was $11/750ml..

$9.15 at Montgomery County liquor stores. Which ALMOST reconciles me to MoCo's and Maryland's liquor distribution laws.

($8.65 for Pikesville Supreme, $20 for Bulleit Rye, $16 for Rittenhouse BiB...if it hasn't all sold out.)
