No way am I am showing my terrible teeth but would very much like to see people's bookshelves which I think I am obsessed with in the same way La Lechera is about teeth.

Perhaps taking the idea a little too far.

I have a fake tooth.

Jeff, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 13:10 (fourteen years ago)

Jeff is your fake tooth in the front? I've never noticed it.

I have a crown. I call it my crown of shame because they wouldn't let me leave the office until I paid for it in full, which I had to max out two credit cards to do and bankrupt myself in addition. Then I went outside, puked outside of my car, and drove myself home. It's on the right in the back though, so I don't know why I even bothered with it. Bad experience!

I only showed part of my bookshelves above, but there's more. I'm sure I have pictures somewhere.

this is a very pleasant thread

NO NUTRITIONAL CONTENT (kelpolaris), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

xpst Yes, it is right beside my front two teeth. I was missing a tooth congenitally and got an implant in my early twenties. The tooth on the other side was undersized, and I have a full crown glued onto the peg tooth that is there. I spent the majority of my youth talking and interacting without showing my teeth, so I still pretty much do that. My teeth are fine now though.

this i did kinda notice, but i can kind of conjure up your teeth if i try.

Yasmine Teeth (La Lechera), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

Today I was at work on my way to the bathroom and I heard someone say my name. Totally did not recognize this person from a 20 foot distance, he was sitting down and knew my first name -- that's all I could tell. But I had to approach to figure it out because clearly this person was trying to say hello to me.

I got a little closer, saw his teeth, and instantly knew who it was -- it was a kid I had in class ~2 years ago (in the spring) when he was right out of high school, so he had grown up a bit. Anyway, if his teeth had changed, I would have had trouble making conversation; instead, I remembered the topic he gave his presentation about and something about his family.

Thanks, distinctive teeth!

Wow. You know, it's funny, Kr always notices teeth, too, but I never do.

you don't want to see my teeth. they are healthy, no cavities (!) but permanently coffee-stained and CROOKED.

no longer the deli llama (m coleman), Monday, 2 January 2012 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

lol same here* - the crookedness seems to make the staining worse because it's harder to get in there and clean

(*except that I have plenty of cavities)

For a second I thought "Um, GROSS" was referring to horrible teeth in a band photo.

Perfect example of a face that I couldn't truly comprehend until I saw it smiling with teeth:

One of my students had a bit of a tooth discoloration issue, and she came to class the other day and it was gone. I was going to tell her that her teeth looked good but it would have been embarrassing, so I just told her it was nice to see her smile.

Teeth.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Monday, 19 March 2012 22:38 (fourteen years ago)

how does this fit in with your aversion to stories of dentistry?

mookieproof, Monday, 19 March 2012 22:53 (fourteen years ago)

Well, I was happy for her because she looked great, but didn't want to hear details. I can't really go into detail (here) about why I am terrified of dentists or have dental work phobia, but the teeth identifying/noticing thing is way older than that.

I don't remember where I mentioned this before, but I used to call Jimmy Carter "Teeth" because when I looked at him that was all I saw (as a wee child, I mean).

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Monday, 19 March 2012 22:57 (fourteen years ago)

there was a whole thing on 60 min last night about ppl with face blindness, but none of them had super teeth vision.

This weekend ilx user Trip Maker and I were going to be at the same show, but I wasn't 100% sure what he looked like. I was pretty sure that I remembered his teeth from this thread. I figured if I saw him and recognized him, I would say hi. Of course I would!

So I was sitting on the steps, in the way, and someone sat down next to me and smiled. Within 0.05 seconds I knew who it was, and I have never met this person before in my life.

Thanks, teeth!

The guy ive been seeing recently has interestingly crooked teeth and tbh I love 'em, like I do the housemates. I mean there's a point where one'd draw the line - rotten Shame McGowan style teeth come to mind - but horesey or crooked teeth give one some intrigue and interest I think.

Una Stubbs' Tears (Trayce), Monday, 12 November 2012 04:48 (thirteen years ago)

lol @ "Shame" McGowan.

Una Stubbs' Tears (Trayce), Monday, 12 November 2012 04:49 (thirteen years ago)

Oh, indeed! Health is an essential component of teeth. I'm mostly interested in their shape, arrangement in the mouth, and proportion to lip/gum.

pschnauzer (La Lechera), Monday, 12 November 2012 14:18 (thirteen years ago)

mine are a little drifty, but not too noticeably -- what is the opinion of slight space between top front teeth?

d-_-b (mh), Monday, 12 November 2012 15:28 (thirteen years ago)

Depends on the teeth but usually I prize distinctiveness over perfection.

pschnauzer (La Lechera), Monday, 12 November 2012 15:32 (thirteen years ago)

"perfection" = uniformity in shape and size (which i don't believe is perfection but i forgot the scare quotes)

Gosh, sorry - just read OP! If it's any consolation, my wisdom teeth extraction wasn't a horror story: it's literally the only dental work I've ever had done, and it went swimmingly. Hurt like hell, of course, but the drugs and ice cream were great.
