haven't seen this or six feet under - they both look crap - but the guy is good in gamer

just a few episodes into season 2. that CANNOT be British girl's real accent (even if she is British). Fucking irritating me.
― owenf, Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:42 (fourteen years ago)
also turning up the saturation way high is quite enjoyable
― owenf, Friday, 3 February 2012 01:37 (fourteen years ago)
Okay, still playing catch-up on this show. Haven't read this thread, wanting to avoid spoilers, but just finished Season 4 last night. Holy shit. Devastating.

One of my favourite shows ever. (Then again I have a ton of faves, so that's not saying much. lol)
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Monday, 5 March 2012 22:09 (fourteen years ago)
I was surprised how much I liked Lithgow as a creepy killer, but could've used less naked scenes.
Right now I think I'd rank the first four seasons as 1 > 4 > 2 > 3
― stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 5 March 2012 22:16 (fourteen years ago)
Warning: it gets mildly shit then UNBELIEVABLY FUCKING TERRIBLE in the next two seasons. 1-4 are classic imo. I thought I'd have been all over this thread with my complete bewilderment at the direction this show took and the goodwill they spunked away, but I guess I vented elsewhere.

Anyone watched 1st episode of season 7 yet?
― not_goodwin, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:24 (thirteen years ago)
maybe speaking too soon but this show has somehow become decent again
― balls, Monday, 29 October 2012 05:55 (thirteen years ago)
I skipped last season, got back in when Deb finds out what's going on. So far so good, but I'm kinda burned out on psychotic Russian gangsters
― Elvis Telecom, Monday, 29 October 2012 06:15 (thirteen years ago)
yeah, I'm watching the deb stuff and skipping all the other guff
― turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 October 2012 06:47 (thirteen years ago)
deb vs. carrie on homeland for the crazy overacting title.
― s.clover, Monday, 19 November 2012 06:00 (thirteen years ago)
the russian gangsters are like characters from 24.
― estela, Monday, 19 November 2012 09:40 (thirteen years ago)
I'm an episode behind, but by the end of the season we're going to find out that Hannah really hasn't killed anyone since her time with Wayne and she's going to bail out Dexter by killing again, right?
― mh, Tuesday, 20 November 2012 01:16 (thirteen years ago)
catch up!
― estela, Tuesday, 20 November 2012 01:25 (thirteen years ago)
Watching the newest right now! Bodycount +1, but I'm still counting it as defending Dexter
― mh, Tuesday, 20 November 2012 01:36 (thirteen years ago)
"What's a booty call?"
aww Dexter
― mh, Tuesday, 20 November 2012 02:00 (thirteen years ago)
OK, caught up, that really threw all the monkeywrenches in the works
― mh, Tuesday, 20 November 2012 02:29 (thirteen years ago)
haha I just marathoned season 6 and am catching up on this season too. season 6 was absolutely terrible but this one has been surprisingly good so far. Love the killers this season - I always liked Yvonne Strahovski (who plays Hannah) when she was on Chuck, and the guy who plays Isaac is great.
Decided to catch up because someone told me Deb found out about Dexter, but looooool I hadn't realised they went for the whole incest angle (about two seasons too late imo but way to go, writers, for trolling all the Dex/Deb shippers). poor deb. still so very fucked up.
― Roz, Tuesday, 20 November 2012 09:59 (thirteen years ago)
He's adopted!
― mh, Tuesday, 20 November 2012 13:01 (thirteen years ago)
I can't friggin believe Dexter fell for this shit
― mh, Monday, 10 December 2012 23:47 (thirteen years ago)
this season started out decently, got pretty good halfway, then immediately went back to being shitty. :/
though it did accomplish something I never thought possible - I now love deb and hate dexter.
― Roz, Monday, 17 December 2012 19:03 (thirteen years ago)
Next season is going to be the last, is it not?Kinda enjoyed this season, blonde girl may pop up again in the next one as i doubt she's finished with deb...
― not_goodwin, Monday, 17 December 2012 22:41 (thirteen years ago)
next season should be the last because everyone in miami should be dead already
― johnathan lee riche$ (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 17 December 2012 23:25 (thirteen years ago)
Anyone watching the last season? Was tempted to watch because of Charlotte Rampling, but really I can't be bothered.
― Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 4 August 2013 19:38 (twelve years ago)
I'm still on board, gotta see the conclusion, but this season hasn't grabbed me yet. The Rampling character is interesting, she knew Dexter's father and counseled him about "what to do with the boy," so that aspect is good. This season's long arc killer hasn't developed into much yet.
― nickn, Monday, 5 August 2013 05:43 (twelve years ago)
just finished S7. Couldn't get worse than S6 and I liked the angle they took (not the gangsters or fire guy because what was that) although the last few eps were back to usual 'is this finished yet'. I like how they've abandoned the idea of anyone doing any actual police work ever.
― kinder, Saturday, 31 August 2013 20:10 (twelve years ago)
Is anybody still watching this? I just read a review that called it the worst final season of TV ever.
I gave up awhile ago - but now I want to see it in a car crash kind of way.
― brio, Friday, 20 September 2013 18:42 (twelve years ago)
Not me. Gave up early last season when I realized literally the ONLY thing I enjoyed about it was ogling Dexter's crazy killer gardener girlfriend. The season before that with the "doomsday" plot was also basically some of the worst TV I've ever intentionally watched.
― Øystein, Friday, 20 September 2013 18:58 (twelve years ago)
halfway through doomsday was where i checked out, it was bad even before that but holy shit
― brio, Friday, 20 September 2013 19:51 (twelve years ago)
I think much of the love that Michael Hall gained from 6 Feet Under has evaporated after 8 seasons of this garbage. How it has lasted this long I do not know.
― Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Friday, 20 September 2013 23:00 (twelve years ago)
Anybody watch the the last episode? They should have left it when hannah and harrison went for ice-cream...
― not_goodwin, Monday, 23 September 2013 14:20 (twelve years ago)
wow people were not kidding about how bad that finale was. Holy shit, was it bad.
― Roz, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 11:26 (twelve years ago)
It didn’t help that I just watched a couple of episodes from season 1 on TV the other day, and it was already depressing to see how much the tone of the entire show had changed. Earlier seasons were a lot funnier, a lot darker and more cynical. Dexter felt like a proper anti-hero, as terrifying as the psychopaths he killed. What the actual fuck.
Anyway, anyone seriously considering taking on this show, stop at season 4. Really.

the av club's reviewer went so far as to vow to not even recommend the first two years to anyone, in case they keep watching
― obi wankin' obi (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 11:41 (twelve years ago)
i saw it out but it was completely terrible by the end.
― estela, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 11:43 (twelve years ago)
Also, poor Deb. Fucked up til the end.
― Roz, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 11:43 (twelve years ago)
my curiosity remained (despite everything) until i heard she fell in love with her brother. that sent me on my way quicksticks.
― obi wankin' obi (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 11:46 (twelve years ago)
i took it with a pinch of nacl and foolishly persisted.
― estela, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 11:49 (twelve years ago)
Sadly, there wasn't even much car crash quality to this season until the finale, it was very by-the-numbers before that. The first episode was promising but it got bad quickly. I liked Charlotte Rampling's character until the writers couldn't decide if she was supposed to show Dexter that he's good or that he's not good. The finale is where it gets ridiculous but only near the end. Watch just that if you want a laugh.
my curiosity remained (despite everything) until i heard she fell in love with her brother
I skipped the doomsday season but I read about this in a review and it was what got me intrigued in the show again! But they didn't do anything with it. This show needed to be more over-the-top if anything.

From reddit, but I'm been laughing about this since last night (SPOILERS I guess):

Dexter Producer: Showtime Wouldn’t Let Us Kill Dexter
The Dexter series finale enraged many fans for many reasons; chief among them was the fact that Dexter lived — and became a logger? — despite having driven his boat into a hurricane. "How about that finale?" said Dexter producer John Goldwyn at the NYFF premiere of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty this weekend, when we asked how the writers decided on that ending. "They won't let us kill him," he told us. "Showtime was very clear about that. When we told them the arc for the last season, they just said, 'Just to be clear, he's going to live.' There were a lot of endings discussed because it was a very interesting problem to solve, to bring it to a close. People have a relationship with Dexter, even if it doesn't have the size and the ferocity of the fan base for Breaking Bad. But it has a very core loyal following." Yes, and a mostly disappointed one.

Inevitable. The IP must be fed
