dayo's itunes feat. big bottom bird

Is anyone here using LevelUp? I just signed up and it seems really great so far and has a 100x better model than Groupon. It's an app that's linked to a credit/debit card that you then use to pay for things at places that accept it (there are tons in Philly). Off the bat you get credit (like, little gift certificates) to tons of places and none of them require minimum purchases. Then once you spend x amount of $ at a given place, you get more credit towards it (e.g. $15 after you spend $150). I'm usually wary of shit like this but it seems pretty great so far.

Oh also apparently if you sign up with this code they gave me (33724) we both get addtl $5 credit good anywhere. So like you basically get a free meal just for signing up

i have used it once. not that many places around here are taking it. also they send me like three promo emails a day and i can't figure out how to opt out of that. but it's a decent idea.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 November 2011 16:20 (fourteen years ago)
I am rly excited abt it because not only do I have this incentive to try all these new places, but I've got all these discounts and will get more if I keep going back. This seems like one of those situations where everybody (me, local establishments, LevellUp) wins

U have sold me on this app, Steve. Downloading now.

Animoog is on sale for 99c!
― schwantz, Tuesday, 3 January 2012 23:43 (fourteen years ago)
It says $9.99 on the website
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 3 January 2012 23:46 (fourteen years ago)

Oh cool.
Garageband for iPhone is maybe better than the iPad version.

Can anyone recommend a good app for personal time management/task prioritisation please? On-board Calendar doesn't really cut it.
― Laughing Gravy (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 12:05 (fourteen years ago)
omnifocus
― caek, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 12:23 (fourteen years ago)
Trello is amazing if you just want something lightweight and clever. Omnifocus if you want to program your life

I've used just about every task management app there is (probably not true). Even though I've fully reverted to using Reminders, I used 2Do for the longest time. It basically had everything I needed but didn't integrate with iOS as smoothly as the native apple app.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 12:52 (fourteen years ago)
Caek - how much planning and tweaking did you put into getting OmniFocus up and running?
I'm a bit daunted by the very first article I've seen about using it.
― Bob Six, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 17:09 (fourteen years ago)
Basically, I want something that'll make a task list with priorities and reminders and then allow me to shove those into an hour-by-hour calendar for the months ahead. If I can sync that to Google Calendars, that would be a Brucey.
― Laughing Gravy (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 17:19 (fourteen years ago)
i used of on os x for years before i got an iphone, so none. it's really designed for gtd though, and if you're not using that i'm not sure how much you'd get out of it compared to a list.
― caek, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 17:31 (fourteen years ago)
I've decided to try it as its come down so much in price.
I use GTD off and on. The thing I like about it is that it can help you get a grip of your areas of work through forcing you to think what the next step is to make progress. I've found it helpful in re-motivating me to get things moving again in areas that seem bogged down for any reason.
What I don't like about GTD is the obsessive approach where every facet of life becomes a 'task' or 'action' - even things that are supposed to be enjoyable. Viewed this way life can feel a drag. Especially if you develop the feeling you should be productive at all times, with even your 'down time' supposed to refresh you.
The other thing I am wary of with GTD is life becoming too structured, especially in my non-work life. It's really easy to get tied into a routine. Some of my most enjoyable moments have been unplanned and accidental.
― Bob Six, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:43 (fourteen years ago)
GTD was great for me back when I was managing people. I still use elements of it (my work email is do/delegate/done) but full-blown GTD would just get in the way now.
iOS Things and Omnifocus/plot/giraffe/spackle are massively overpriced imo.

This looks cool.

Please help me find an that will allow me to determine the distance between various points that I plot a map. Like this http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/, but on iPhone.
Google Maps app doesn't work this way, unless I'm missing something (won't allow you to drop more than one pin at a time) and searching for pedometers on the app store results in too many matches.

I used to use cyclemeter
― catbus otm (gbx), Friday, 9 March 2012 17:31 (fourteen years ago)
It looks like Cyclemeter works through GPS, which is not what I am looking for. I'm looking for something where I can plot points on a map and have the app calculate the distance.
― garbage corn fan (Je55e), Friday, 9 March 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)
I use Measure Map Lite for this; it's free, and it seems to do the job pretty well
― jlgt, Friday, 9 March 2012 23:43 (fourteen years ago)
Excellent, thanks jlgt! Exactly what's wanted. I shelled out the $1.99 for the full version.

Update one month on: OmniFocus - 29 projects, 181 actions
― Bob Six, Saturday, 10 March 2012 10:29 (fourteen years ago)
I see no problems there.

notesy for notes with offline editing and dropbox syncing in a way that is compatible with notational velocity on the desktop

Anybody recommend a strength training tracking app? Where I can build a workout and check off reps/sets as I go?
― aka vanilla bean (remy bean), Thursday, 29 March 2012 13:22 (fourteen years ago)
i use stronglifts but it's not very flexible. assumes you are following their program.
― caek, Thursday, 29 March 2012 13:28 (fourteen years ago)
i use myfitnesspal. it remembers what you did last time, so you can tell if you're improving. unfortunately there's no reporting mechanism (as far as I can tell that) shows you how you do across multiple days or over a period of time. but i used a few strength tracking apps that were inflexible and always ended up going back to myfitnesspal.
― rayuela, Thursday, 29 March 2012 13:42 (fourteen years ago)
simplenote has pissed me off many times by being unresponsive on launch as it tries to sync. will give notesy a try.
― lukas, Thursday, 29 March 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)
I use myfitnesspal for everything else, I guess there's no reason I can't do it for this.
