Nobody I've ever known from Manchester/Greater Mcr has ever supported City either

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 10:46 (fourteen years ago)

I think I know five - three of whom are legit, while the other two at least got in early enough to claim they've been supporting Man City since before they were successful rich.

Does any really start supporting a completely new side after the age of about fifteen?

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 10:48 (fourteen years ago)

lol now i think about it i don't think i've ever met a city fan either.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 10:51 (fourteen years ago)

I know a couple of people who've changed teams as adults, and at least make a show of taking defeats really badly. It's the saddest sight in the world.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 10:55 (fourteen years ago)

the new Man City fans are coming of age in schools around Ireland as we speak

Number None, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:03 (fourteen years ago)

not just ireland tbf.

gonna be weird in 15 years time when there are no utd fans under 30 in southern england.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:05 (fourteen years ago)

tru

generation lmbo (darraghmac), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:05 (fourteen years ago)

It's not that long ago that Man City were in the third tier of English football and jumping on the bandwagon feels a bit tawdry for anyone above school age, so it's hardly surprising you haven't met many.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:06 (fourteen years ago)

like how there must be a new generation of kids where like 1 in 15 don't become a leeds fan just because and instead have become a stoke fan or something.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:06 (fourteen years ago)

... there's football fans and football fans and then there's Arsenal fans

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:07 (fourteen years ago)

I know a couple of non-Manc City fans. I blame Oasis tbh.

a guy called Gerard (onimo), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:07 (fourteen years ago)

I wonder if there are tons of thirty-year-old Newcastle fans in places like Oman and Indonesia?

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:07 (fourteen years ago)

I mean imagine going up to a Man City fan in 1998 or 99 and trying to explain all this to them, they'd think you were insane.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:08 (fourteen years ago)

well they were busy having their minds blown by be here now tbf. :D

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:09 (fourteen years ago)

I imagine recently arrived immigrants will already be thinking of supporting Citeh, if not supporting them already, I haven't been down to Stokey to watch a match in a while so I haven't noticed any yet

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:10 (fourteen years ago)

That Melvyn Bragg piece. I never really understood being a fan until now.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:12 (fourteen years ago)

Carlisle Utd fans obviously don't count

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:13 (fourteen years ago)

i know quite a few city fans, the're about as legit as all the man u and liverpool fans i know too

Summer Slam! (Ste), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:39 (fourteen years ago)

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:40 (fourteen years ago)

You can talk, Melvyn Bragg was a gooner before you were.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 13:29 (fourteen years ago)

r|t|c, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 13:34 (fourteen years ago)

That Chelsea thread was posted on one of the QPR messageboards yesterday, to much hilarity.

Now, the Terry affair. Terry's own version of what happened on the pitch appears to be:
JT: Anton, you're a fucking blind cunt
AF: Did you just call me a fucking black cunt?
JT: Oi, Anton, I didn't call you a fucking black cunt.

Even in the heat of the moment, that doesn't sound a wholly credible exchange, does it?

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 13:38 (fourteen years ago)

i wouldn't expect any better from you *sniff*

generation lmbo (darraghmac), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 13:52 (fourteen years ago)

MES is a City fan, "just to be contrary" surprise surprise: http://www.wsc.co.uk/content/view/3751/29/

JT: Anton, you're a fucking blind cunt
AF: Did you just call me a fucking black cunt?
JT: Oi, Anton, I didn't call you a fucking black cunt.

Why would you call an opposing player a blind cunt? The ref, yes, but not a player. Did Anton walk into a goalpost or something?

a guy called Gerard (onimo), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 15:12 (fourteen years ago)

Has anyone even considered the words might have been something other than black/blind cunt? I mean, what about "bell end" or something?

fields of salmon, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 15:19 (fourteen years ago)

he meant black, obv

generation lmbo (darraghmac), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 15:21 (fourteen years ago)

It could be "black bell end" I suppose...

a guy called Gerard (onimo), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 15:21 (fourteen years ago)

blackcurrant

generation lmbo (darraghmac), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 15:21 (fourteen years ago)

"You're a fucking blackcurrant Anton!"
"Did you call me a fucking black cunt?"
"No I called you a fucking blackcurrant you fucking deaf black cunt!"

a guy called Gerard (onimo), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 15:24 (fourteen years ago)

I've watched the video and tbh if no-one said to me "he's saying 'fucking black cunt'" I'd have no idea what he was saying, other than that it clearly had "fucking" in it.

a guy called Gerard (onimo), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 15:26 (fourteen years ago)

If he said blackcurrant, that's OK. But if he said black currant, that's racist filth.

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

You'd think JT might've had his statement drafted on that basis xp.

A blind day for John Terry:

James Mitchell, Thursday, 27 October 2011 07:41 (fourteen years ago)

Kenny, Derry and Hill — an active players’ union representative — question whether any such exchange took place, given that Ferdinand had no knowledge of a racial element to what was said until after the game.

Terry does not deny that the video shows him using the phrase ‘black ****’ but argues that it was said in the context of Ferdinand’s accusation — an accusation Ferdinand and his team-mates will say was never made.

ffs this is just a witch hunt now

RIP Big Muam mißya til I'm Libya (darraghmac), Thursday, 27 October 2011 07:56 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah but it's against John Terry, so who cares?

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Thursday, 27 October 2011 08:42 (fourteen years ago)

that's not good enough. anyone has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty and anton ferdinand hasn't even issued a statement on this yet, this is being blown out of proportion to the available facts.

RIP Big Muam mißya til I'm Libya (darraghmac), Thursday, 27 October 2011 09:46 (fourteen years ago)

lol

RIP Big Muam mißya til I'm Libya (darraghmac), Thursday, 27 October 2011 09:46 (fourteen years ago)

He should just be grateful there aren't any Libyans with metal poles about.

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Thursday, 27 October 2011 09:48 (fourteen years ago)

should have taken a superinjunction against it

Gary Numan, or Gary Fletcher (ken c), Thursday, 27 October 2011 09:53 (fourteen years ago)
