Ability to search for "text" written by "particular users"

I often try to find something I said back whenever, but unless I'm the only one who had said it, it's pretty near impossible.

There is a solution for your problem! Search in this format:

"back whenever" AND displayName:"Mark G"

By the way, Mark G, you have used the phrase "back whenever" a lot.

It's a good phrase.

Now see if you can track down something I said about Radiohead.

I would like the website to have shortcut buttons for BBcode formatting like Zing Touch does. On Firefox on my laptop I have a BBcode extension installed, but at work or elsewhere I don't. I know the codes, but it's a great convenience to be able to apply formatting with just one click. This is my greatest wish beyond a healthy and happy server.

For each thread, (a small number of) persistent links to "sibling threads" at the top and bottom (editable by mods, or possibly threadstarter as well).
Examples:
-- Poll voting thread <-> result thread <-> ballot thread (and track poll threads <-> album poll threads for corresponding polls) ;
-- Monthly, seasonal or other "serial" threads (like wdyll, or US politics) could be linked to previous thread and next thread in series.

Opt-out-able warning screen - "this thread is on ILM, not ILE -- are you sure you want to go there?"

when you write a post & press submit, instead of refreshing back to the thread, a gif of a waddling duck swims across the screen right to left, leaving a trail of java-enabled ripples distorting the page, & when it passes & the ripples dissipate the page is refreshed

i think seeing it 1000x times in ten minutes would probably soothe some of the bs on the rap threads

re: long threads, & resuming your position in them, does ilx work better now than it did before? i feel like recently sometimes when i've clicked on 'click here to see all messages' in the middle of a thread, it's usefully taken me back to the last message i'd seen, rather than just loading everything and making me remember.

i might just be making this up, idk

three weeks pass...

When searching it defaults to only searching the boards you have favourited.

A feature that would not allow people to upload huge ass images that take up the whole damn screen.

Jeff, Sunday, 5 February 2012 21:28 (fourteen years ago)

I thought images were already limited to 600 pix wide.

pplains, Sunday, 5 February 2012 21:56 (fourteen years ago)

If it's any larger, it gets compressed.

Still hoping for "hide thread" and also a way to "mark thread as unread" or whatever's needed so I can get rid of the little circles instead of dots next to threads that I never wanted to look at but clicked accidentally.

I am always confused when people say "sorry hueg," bc images are never hueg for me. Sorry if I unwittingly poest huegs.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 14:42 (fourteen years ago)

Can we also auto correct hueg to huge?

Jeff, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 14:59 (fourteen years ago)

Similarly, cuet to cute.

Jeff, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 14:59 (fourteen years ago)

"Ban, Ban, It's me Ban. She can't see me Ban, only you can Ban, only you!"

Mark G, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 15:10 (fourteen years ago)

I'll take it!

Jeff, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 16:16 (fourteen years ago)

Would give $20 right this minute for a "Hide Thread" function.

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Monday, 13 February 2012 19:46 (fourteen years ago)

Make it $40

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Monday, 13 February 2012 19:47 (fourteen years ago)

easy enough with a greasemonkey script.

but for a quick fix if you're using firefox install 'adblock plus' and 'element hiding helper' and use it to block the <a> tags with the thread titles in question.

koogs, Monday, 13 February 2012 22:12 (fourteen years ago)

great

now i just need a 'translate post' functionality

Skipping 769 messages at this point... Click here if you want to load them all.

Um, how about an additional ".. or click here for the last 100 messages"

Mark G, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 10:02 (fourteen years ago)

Because I just wanted to see what was said about "Get Carter", not 769 more messages with loads of d/l pics, etc.

Mark G, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 10:03 (fourteen years ago)

permalink post just after the break then click on previous page. but yeah, i agree that an option like the one you mention would be nice.

ledge, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 10:20 (fourteen years ago)

permalink trick doesn't always work for some reason

ledge, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 10:20 (fourteen years ago)

I did search for "Get Carter", dated yesterday, posts only, and got pretty much the functionality I was after.

That's all right, but other times you aren't going to know what was said on the last few messages before the 'Skipping' bit ends.

Mark G, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 10:36 (fourteen years ago)

> I did search for "Get Carter"

i'd like the text box to get focus when clicking onto the search page.

koogs, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 11:51 (fourteen years ago)

could "show images" be on-page rather than or, in addition to, being in preferences? i shift between the two very regularly either image or youtube-heavy threads. maybe others do, too?

flopson, Saturday, 18 February 2012 22:04 (fourteen years ago)

Actually that is a good idea yeah

Lindsay NAGL (Trayce), Saturday, 18 February 2012 22:34 (fourteen years ago)

how about 'click here for the last 100 messages not counting ones that just say ^^^^^^.'

estela, Sunday, 19 February 2012 01:37 (fourteen years ago)

More than one bookmark to a thread, like you can do with a book. Sometimes I want to keep my place, sometimes I want to mark a post to go back to.

knocked over like the last act in Mackbeth (onimo), Sunday, 19 February 2012 02:31 (fourteen years ago)

I think the current implementation for handling long threads works just fine - i.e first 50 or so posts, the big red box with "skipping 769 messages" in the middle, and the last 50 or so after it, with the option to get the whole thread both at the top and on the skip bar. If the post I'm looking for isn't already displayed, I'm probably not going to know if it's in the last 100 or the 100 before that, so I'd want to load the whole thread anyway.

Lee626, Sunday, 19 February 2012 02:37 (fourteen years ago)

Well on that note, a tagging system of some kind could be handy. Or bringing back the categories, at least. xpost

Lindsay NAGL (Trayce), Sunday, 19 February 2012 02:38 (fourteen years ago)

a tagging syste of some kind = bookmarks?

flopson, Sunday, 19 February 2012 02:46 (fourteen years ago)

No I mean tags like word/subject tags.

Lindsay NAGL (Trayce), Sunday, 19 February 2012 02:51 (fourteen years ago)

unless I completely misunderstand how bookmarks work (i've nevr used them)

Lindsay NAGL (Trayce), Sunday, 19 February 2012 02:52 (fourteen years ago)

no, that's not how they work
