and still it's going to cost $250 to fix my washing machine. they can put a man on the moon.

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:14 (fourteen years ago)

I have all this power in my pocket.

And I still don't have a washing machine.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

it ended up being cheaper, so you all can relax.

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

oh god, iphone backing up, taking hours

Autumn Almanac, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:48 (fourteen years ago)

anyone else finding the restore process not... working?

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:49 (fourteen years ago)

Loads of reports about that. I'm not even getting that far.

Autumn Almanac, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:57 (fourteen years ago)

it didnt work for me at first, then i just restarted my phone and it worked fine

prego, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:58 (fourteen years ago)

Mine backed up and immediately gave me some message about an internal error. Giving up, have to go to work.

Autumn Almanac, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

is match live yet? that's all I'm interested in, since I never buy anything from itunes

akm, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

nah, match isnt out yet

prego, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 20:02 (fourteen years ago)

Saw a couple random glitches in the browser on iOS "gold master" on an iPad, gonna update when I get home and hope it works a bit better

( ) (mh), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 20:26 (fourteen years ago)

Just use a direct download link. Much easier.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

No need for me so far. Downloading the OS X update first, then grabbing iOS 5, then... onward!

Looks like they just released XCode too.

Having people on iMessage is grebt

stet, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 22:54 (fourteen years ago)

is there a way to use that via the desktop yet? ichat? not yet tho?

markers, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 22:55 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't realise but the icloud login screen is where you can create a whole new icloud apple id that's separate from your itunes apple id. Useful for when you've got multiple people sharing one itunes id but need separate icloud ids for doc/contact syncing etc. <-- TYPING THIS gave me a headache.

Autumn Almanac (Schlafsack), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 22:57 (fourteen years ago)

I have a choice of updating my dumb-phone to an iphone 4S or waiting to get iphone 5 when it's released sometime next year

I think it's probably worth the wait

ℓ٥ﻻ ﻉ√٥υ (CaptainLorax), Thursday, 13 October 2011 00:58 (fourteen years ago)

Boy, getting iCloud/Apple to verify my AppleID is a pain. Still waiting on them to send me an email. Otherwise everything else running smoothly.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 00:59 (fourteen years ago)

I logged into icloud (from the mac) using my itunes apple id. It fartarsed around for a while, said "INCORRECT PASSWORD" in big red letters for a while, then just logged in as though nothing had ever happened.

Autumn Almanac (Schlafsack), Thursday, 13 October 2011 01:06 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, nothing quite so smooth like that. Still gives me a 'resent verification email' option and then of course refuses to actually deliver one.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 01:09 (fourteen years ago)

'Resend' rather. Anyway.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 01:09 (fourteen years ago)

My email came through. iOS 5 never installed for me, mind.

Autumn Almanac (Schlafsack), Thursday, 13 October 2011 01:10 (fourteen years ago)

About to find out if it will for me!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 01:11 (fourteen years ago)

i haven't had an apple id in a while so i just signed up for a new account using system preferences --> icloud, and i got in

markers, Thursday, 13 October 2011 01:12 (fourteen years ago)

on my imac

markers, Thursday, 13 October 2011 01:12 (fourteen years ago)

Whut how can u not have had an appleid markers?

stet, Thursday, 13 October 2011 06:41 (fourteen years ago)

my syncing is a total clusterfuck. Google sync via exchange, imap, mobile me account, icloud. Total mess.

dan selzer, Thursday, 13 October 2011 06:46 (fourteen years ago)

Whut how can u not have had an appleid markers?

― stet

don't currently use an ios device, and i use spotify for my music, so i've had no need for it for a while. i deleted it a while back and didn't have a reason to get a new one until now, when i want to test out icloud stuff

markers, Thursday, 13 October 2011 06:49 (fourteen years ago)

iphone all set up and I'm up to the icloud backup setup screen where it's failing but because the language is still in CHINESE i have no idea what the fuck is going on

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 13 October 2011 08:21 (fourteen years ago)

so apparently i have an icloud problem that the other 250 million ios users haven't had

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 13 October 2011 08:37 (fourteen years ago)

mac os x lion is worth the $30. gestures and mission control are key tho: swiping from desktop to full-screen iTunes to dashboard is fundamentally easier than Expose/Spaces. I spend less time on the computer now b/c of it.

shaane, Thursday, 13 October 2011 08:55 (fourteen years ago)

Good to see Apple TV is even more packed with useless American shit that I will never ever use and cannot get rid of.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 13 October 2011 09:36 (fourteen years ago)

xp even apple hates the apple tv. it hardly seems worth getting excited about.

caek, Thursday, 13 October 2011 09:36 (fourteen years ago)

I never used Spaces before, so I'm still struggling to figure how to get the most of multiple desktops, etc. - I assume you put iTunes on full-screen as a separate desktop?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 13 October 2011 09:46 (fourteen years ago)

I've never understood the point of full-screen apps either. Is it to appease Windows users who are addicted to maximizing every program?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 13 October 2011 09:53 (fourteen years ago)

that and people who find it difficult to be alone with their thoughts

caek, Thursday, 13 October 2011 10:25 (fourteen years ago)

I like fullscreen on a macbook air where vertical real estate is limited

2001: a based godyssey (dayo), Thursday, 13 October 2011 10:29 (fourteen years ago)

What's the point of word processing if I can't be constantly dragging in clip-art of adorable kittens?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 13 October 2011 10:34 (fourteen years ago)

I bet some things still creep into full-screen mode though, i.e. Growl notifications

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 13 October 2011 10:42 (fourteen years ago)

good to see growl is now (1) app store only (2) not free.

caek, Thursday, 13 October 2011 11:58 (fourteen years ago)

I think I sort of hate Growl

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 13 October 2011 11:59 (fourteen years ago)

growl is the WORST and I don't know why it needs to occupy a pane in my system prefs

2001: a based godyssey (dayo), Thursday, 13 October 2011 12:01 (fourteen years ago)

Well, uninstall it

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 13 October 2011 12:31 (fourteen years ago)

I don't wanna
