bbbbbut, the Lannisters don't have any pet direwolves

Number None, Thursday, 13 October 2011 20:31 (fourteen years ago)

Then obviously's he's lion.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 13 October 2011 20:32 (fourteen years ago)

touché

Number None, Thursday, 13 October 2011 20:33 (fourteen years ago)

which one is ygritte? 'you know nothing, jon snow'? that one?

thomp, Thursday, 13 October 2011 20:40 (fourteen years ago)

someone should rewrite game of thrones just using dolch words

thomp, Thursday, 13 October 2011 20:41 (fourteen years ago)

yeah that's ygritte, the 'lucky' one with red hair

lol @ that poster

book 4 is kinda meh so far, maybe just in comparison to the non-stop action of book 3

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 13 October 2011 23:09 (fourteen years ago)

No, I think book 4's mehness stands alone, though it does hit some high points.

foxes freud (Leee), Friday, 14 October 2011 03:41 (fourteen years ago)

Book 4 is 'here's what it's like for the little ppl' if u just take it as that it's v enjoyable

Axolotl with an Atlatl (Jon Lewis), Friday, 14 October 2011 18:42 (fourteen years ago)

book 4 is also 1m times better than book 5

max, Friday, 14 October 2011 19:23 (fourteen years ago)

except book 5 slightly advanced the plot.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 14 October 2011 19:30 (fourteen years ago)

but it was 2x as long and 2x as boring. book 4 was sorta interesting, had better worldbuilding, new interests, etc.

max, Friday, 14 October 2011 19:31 (fourteen years ago)

too much Cersei for me in book 4. One note character shrilling her one note to oblivion.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 14 October 2011 19:33 (fourteen years ago)

i really liked the tyrion plot in 5, and the john snow plot, but both could have been half as long

has anybody seen my jeffrey tambourine? (remy bean), Friday, 14 October 2011 19:34 (fourteen years ago)

jon snow

has anybody seen my jeffrey tambourine? (remy bean), Friday, 14 October 2011 19:34 (fourteen years ago)

i'm loving dance w/dragons, only 120 pages in but damn it's been fucking great at the start

the 500 gats of bartholomew thuggins (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 14 October 2011 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

4 & 5 condensed into one would be excellent.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 14 October 2011 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, and should have been what happened

max, Friday, 14 October 2011 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

matt ill be interested to see what you think! i had an initially meh-bordering-on-positive reaction but once the adrenaline of reading the thing had worn off i grew to hate it, deeply

max, Friday, 14 October 2011 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

i'm just digging what's going on w/snow, danerys, tyrion right now, intersting plotlines so far imo

the 500 gats of bartholomew thuggins (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 14 October 2011 19:41 (fourteen years ago)

there's a lot of water-treading w/ dany and snow, imho, that seemed pretty clearly padding out length

has anybody seen my jeffrey tambourine? (remy bean), Friday, 14 October 2011 19:43 (fourteen years ago)

i guess i have a hard time believing i'll like it less than book 4 for the simple fact of the characters that are in this one....but who knows, i'm still in the honeymoon phase

the 500 gats of bartholomew thuggins (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 14 October 2011 19:44 (fourteen years ago)

i mean tbf page 120 in an asoiaf book is like page 25 in most books

max, Friday, 14 October 2011 19:44 (fourteen years ago)

no i realize! i'm just saying i'm totally loving it, but obv i've been waiting forever for this so i'm pretty pumped up about it

the 500 gats of bartholomew thuggins (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 14 October 2011 19:45 (fourteen years ago)

i feel like your best bet is to just maintain that positivity

max, Friday, 14 October 2011 19:46 (fourteen years ago)

Uh dudes, you're probably gonna have some angry spoiler phobes in here in a bit

Number None, Friday, 14 October 2011 19:49 (fourteen years ago)

in fairness to the spoiler phobes, this is the thread for the TV show

Rory's new misogynist car (Gukbe), Friday, 14 October 2011 19:51 (fourteen years ago)

no spoilers yet? they can eat it because here I'm gonna spoil some shit and say TYRION TURNS INTO A CUTE LI'L MIDGET DRAGON AND EATS CERSEI AND POOPS HER OUT ON THAT THRONE MADE OUT OF SWORDS

has anybody seen my jeffrey tambourine? (remy bean), Friday, 14 October 2011 19:51 (fourteen years ago)

there are multiple threads for discussing the books

Number None, Friday, 14 October 2011 19:53 (fourteen years ago)

that's not nearly as cool as the scene where Zombie Ned and Robb ride north to storm the Wildlings stronghold

do not wake the dragon (DJP), Friday, 14 October 2011 19:57 (fourteen years ago)

I was watching Batman Begins last weekend and Joffrey is one of the little kids Batman saves. I really wanted him to fling Joffrey from the burning building.

DaTruf (Nicole), Thursday, 20 October 2011 18:58 (fourteen years ago)

loooool

Yes, I have had this problem with several of the knights and courtiers on other shows, too.

WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Thursday, 20 October 2011 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

so I guess I should probably commit to this this, then? Swords & sorcery renaissance fair fare is typically not my bag, but I just watched the opening sequence of the first episode & am appropriately creeped out in good way by the blue-eyed demon people, so yes! yes?

treeses, help me find my proper place (Pillbox), Saturday, 22 October 2011 03:18 (fourteen years ago)

Yes!

foxes freud (Leee), Saturday, 22 October 2011 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

lol just realized you weren't referring to the Lannisters with "blue-eyed demon people."

foxes freud (Leee), Saturday, 22 October 2011 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

The swords and sorcery stuff is really kept to a minimum (thankfully, imo, because I'm also not into it) in favor of some totally dirty politicking, which is where the show's hottness is (for me).

foxes freud (Leee), Saturday, 22 October 2011 18:42 (fourteen years ago)

Also, for benefit of people who haven't read the books, I'd like to fill out this thread to push the book 4 talk into the "Skipping..." fold again, so, uh, trying to think of possible topics for discussion...

foxes freud (Leee), Saturday, 22 October 2011 18:46 (fourteen years ago)

barely into it, but digging it so far. As of right now, my favorite aspect is the gorgeous photography & the choice of the Ulster countryside & coastline as a backdrop/setting. It's making me a bit nostalgic, as I traveled in that area quite extensively years ago - of course, at the time, there was an unfortunate lack of towering, mystical fortresses & men in fur capes w/ broadswords roaming the countryside.

now they know how many holes it takes to fill buffandmaxsmom (Pillbox), Saturday, 22 October 2011 18:58 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, they had to film it in marching season to get the epic armies in the background. Then CGI out all the bowler hats.

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Saturday, 22 October 2011 19:16 (fourteen years ago)

lol

T/S: Jon Snow (book 1) vs. Jon Snow (season 1)?

daschund derrida (Leee), Sunday, 6 November 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

a friend of mine works on the show (series 1 and 2) so here are a couple of gossipy bits:

two of the "brothers" had a right old time off-set spitroasting various make-up and wardrobe girls.

one of the main (scottish) actors' breath is so bad the other actors dread filming a scene with him.

jed_, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 00:39 (fourteen years ago)

what is it with celebrities in Britain and spitroasting?

encarta it (Gukbe), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 00:48 (fourteen years ago)

maybe bad breath dude is just going method?

Number None, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 01:04 (fourteen years ago)

Maybe he was spit-roasted and didn't get a chance to rinse.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 01:05 (fourteen years ago)

lol

jed_, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 01:10 (fourteen years ago)

Reading the first book, enjoying it so much. It's just so readable, and for all the quibbles about his style upthread, I don't think he writes badly at all. Lots of it is very evocative, and his dialogue is often excellent.
