BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 03:40 (fourteen years ago)

the only Steve Jobs food story i ever heard was from a guy i knew in college, who is now a key guy at Apple

he told me that he once watched Steve Jobs threw a hissy fit at the Apple cafeteria because he wanted pasta, but the cafeteria was serving something else that day. so Steve Jobs basically tortured the lunch ladies until they finally made what he wanted.

geeta, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 03:40 (fourteen years ago)

sorry, it's late

the first rule of the corporate lunch scene is you don't talk about the corporate lunch scene

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 06:46 (fourteen years ago)

Got to use the phrase "corporate lunch scene" today when asked for a restaurant suggestion for a business lunch. A+ would use again.

lagerfeld of modern despots (latebloomer), Thursday, 20 October 2011 05:33 (fourteen years ago)

There'll be no need to read his biography what with EVERY PRESS AGENCY ON THE PLANET explaining every single revelation in gigantic detail.

Autumn Almanac (Schlafsack), Friday, 21 October 2011 05:11 (fourteen years ago)

i.e. if you want to enjoy the book don't look at a web site or open a newspaper.

Autumn Almanac (Schlafsack), Friday, 21 October 2011 05:11 (fourteen years ago)

def surprised that he admits to delaying his cancer treatment

gonna be hilarious when shareholders file suit

dayo, Friday, 21 October 2011 10:52 (fourteen years ago)

He didn't just delay - he chose a stupid fucking homeopathic alternative treatment instead of the one that works. And in the end, he's just another rich, narcissistic vaccine denier type. Sigh.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:01 (fourteen years ago)

yeah I didn't phrase that correctly - I meant he hid the fact from shareholders

dayo, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

sueing his executors or apple or whaa

nakhchivan, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

Is that important? (Call me naive but I was always wondering why the hell there was so much attention given to what the shareholders thought about his health; I kinda bloodlessly figured they'd be more interested in, you know, sales and profits. The company wasn't SteveJobsBodilyIntegrity.com)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

well I have no idea what being a shareholder entitles you to - I just remember that waves were being made at the time that jobs was concealing too much of his illness from the public and hence shareholders

dayo, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

Well, Jobs being dead certainly affects Apple and Apple stock. Jobs keeping his illness secret gave the stock an illusion of strength, where an admission that he was seeking a risky alternative treatment would have given shareholders a chance to make up their own mind as to his and Apple's future and whether or not it was worth shedding stocks then vs. now, post-fact and in a position of relative weakness.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

That is, he knew he was dying to the extent that he told his biographer. So he was concealing a known fact of use to shareholders.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

fwiw

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:16 (fourteen years ago)

Man I knew the stock market consisted of jumpy, nervous bastards but that's kinda weird.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:17 (fourteen years ago)

sue sue sue to establish the precdent that corporate offcers are subject to full prophylactic genetic testing & constant health monitoring it's the least shareholders deserve

nakhchivan, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

tbc I think any stockholder who would file suit over this is a vampire squid - but given the grand larceny that goes on daily in the financial world I would not be surprised if tomorrow some group of shareholders filed suit

dayo, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

The vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis, lit. "vampire squid from 'Hell'")

feel like the taxonomists are giving these chaps undue status with *that* name

nakhchivan, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:24 (fourteen years ago)

cosign the vampire squids, but you also gotta assume that many shareholders demand the person in charge gets checked out regularly. Sort of like Hollywood studios requiring physicals from their actors (though that may be just to get naked pix).

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

keep hearing "vampire squid" as "vampire girl" in that jonathan richman song

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Friday, 21 October 2011 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

the whole concern-troll thing about WHAT STEVE JOBS SHOULD HAVE TOLD THE SHAREHOLDERS is pretty gross imo

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Friday, 21 October 2011 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

like do u really give a fuck about apple shareholders' portfolios

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Friday, 21 October 2011 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

ppl bringing that argument never seem to advocate for the rights of the shareholders of any other company

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Friday, 21 October 2011 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

I dont give a shit, personally. I also don't give a shit about Steve Jobs (aside from generic empathy; died too young is died too young). Just saying I can imagine it being a concern to those who do/did both of those things. I imagine if I were a profit-minded shareholder - and they all are - I would care, which is why this secrecy stuff was brought up *before* he died. Not to burst any bubbles, but Apple was a business. It's "think different" campaign was advertising, because when it came to the bottom line, it filled swimming pools with blood-soaked, coke-tainted cash like any other flush company. And to pretend a very famously public yet paradoxically secretive CEO/creative driver, uniquely linked to his product, with a mysterious illness who nonetheless stayed mum on the situation was like any other CEO/company is just a little silly. Dude was exceptional in many regards.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 21 October 2011 19:06 (fourteen years ago)

I agree with everything you said 510ck1, which is why I think that it's gonna be hilarious and sad if/when these suits start showing up

but maybe the stock price should drop a little first
