i thought the last walt/jesse scene, like a lot of this ep, had a sort of wry quality to it, like it was the writers reminding us what a pair they are. felt the same about the laundry scene, was kinda like "crazy walt and jesse are back on the road again" or something. at least until the plant reveal.

Here's a question: what loyalty does Walt still have to Jesse? And why? He could have just shot him in the basement of the lab, and maybe for a split second we were supposed to think he would, except that no one expected Walt to shoot Jesse. But why not? It would sure tie up a ton of loose ends for Walt.

None, but he loves him like a son.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:11 (fourteen years ago)
And yet Walt would kill him to save his real son, though the nature of his relationship with his son has barely been developed over the course of this show.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:14 (fourteen years ago)
tyrus was fuckin hilarious man. "does it have to be dirty?" "nope."
― the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Tuesday, October 11, 2011 5:19 PM
^^^ also making jesse reach for the cellphone when gus calls for him. its the little things.
― lol-qaeda (am0n), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:32 (fourteen years ago)
That's because Walt's own relationship with his son has gone backwards over the year or so of the story. The only time Walt ever pays attention to him is when he's feeling guilty about something.

the sound of gus scraping the chair across the floor

well tbf walt jr. is very annoying
― Tyler the Creator Knows White People (The Brainwasher), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:38 (fourteen years ago)
only just managed to watch since because my internet has been down for 3 days..
bravo - one of the most satisfying season finales of any show i can think of
nothing that hasn't been mentioned already but i hope the big themes for season 5 will be - hank unravelling everything (he's definitely not been a winner this season)- the reason the mexicans didn't kill gus coming back to haunt walt+jesse (i guess mike knows more about this)
i'd be quite surprised if walt tries to take over as the kingpin but they have developed the character to be that idiotic so it could easily happen.

― the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:52 (fourteen years ago)
and ya i just rewatched it. fuck it's good! walt's relief at hearing that brock is gonna live, "thank god. thank GOD," takes on a nice shading when u watch it again
― the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:53 (fourteen years ago)
well i guess he might have liked to bring down gus' meth empire down himself rather than it be destroyed by fire and basically having no idea what happened
― P-NASTY (tpp), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:55 (fourteen years ago)
*down down
I'm sure he still wants to find out who the gourmet chef is/was.
― Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:56 (fourteen years ago)
i'm sure now that he's proven right he'll have the opportunity to investigate it further...?
you really think they're just gonna be like oh, this prominent businessman and DEA supporter turns out to have ties to mexican drug cartels, now that he's dead i guess it's just CASE CLOSED
― the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:57 (fourteen years ago)
yeah dont think hanks gonna give this one a rest

hank is very much back in the saddle is my takeaway from the ending of this season
― the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:59 (fourteen years ago)
either that or he binges on minerals in celebration and basically becomes a rock junky
― the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:00 (fourteen years ago)
it is kinda weird if it was just gus, mike, and tyrus running the criminal operation, with everyone else just a hired goon who had no loyalty. like they smashed up the laundry and there was nobody left who cared once gus/mike/tyrus absent.
i know next season they'll introduce more people, but in terms of that local factory etc...fairly thin on the ground as far as a crew goes.
― When a German communicates, you listen (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:00 (fourteen years ago)
i feel like there are a ton of more guys, they don't just hang around with the boss like cartoony thugs and henchmen. gus was too organized and smart for that. i mean he set up a whole german shell company etc etc etc. there are lot of other players, but probably kept far apart from each other.
― the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:02 (fourteen years ago)
can someone help me out...what was gus' original motivation for having gale replace walt as the chief cook? it set this whole chain of events in motion and i can't remember why gus didn't just let the walt+jesse team cook without making walt go mental
― P-NASTY (tpp), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:04 (fourteen years ago)
it was jesse being unstable iirc
― ice cr?m, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:05 (fourteen years ago)
- gale way more reliable than drug addict jesse- possibility of handing walt to the cartels down the line, as per requested
― the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:05 (fourteen years ago)
ah yeah and walt refused to cook without jesse etc etc. thx
― P-NASTY (tpp), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:06 (fourteen years ago)
i think the second point is the big one though, gus knew the cartels wanted walt bad and that he might have to eventually give him up. he needed a reliable walt replacement in place.
― the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:08 (fourteen years ago)
def. would have been in gus' interest (after he eventually built up trust in jesse) to get walt back on side at some point this season rather than pushing him further and further away.
― P-NASTY (tpp), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:10 (fourteen years ago)
just almost stopped myself from posting that because hey it's a tv show and gus isn't a real person. but you know a tv show is good when you are sitting there afterwards trying to work out what characters should have done differently.
walt did agree to cook w/o jesse for awhile right, thats when gale was his assistant, but then he got spooked convinced gus was gonna kill him
― ice cr?m, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:11 (fourteen years ago)
really hope this show doesn't turn into some WALT Vs. THE DEA/HANK AS THE "GOOD GUY" thing... would be pretty lame
― Tyler the Creator Knows White People (The Brainwasher), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:13 (fourteen years ago)
i'd def. still watch and enjoy that i think.. but i can't see them going that route at all
― P-NASTY (tpp), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:15 (fourteen years ago)
this ep so made up for the sorta lame set-up episode that was e12

Tyrus not handing Jesse the phone justifies all cardboradness in other appearances alone

I don't get these Tyrus complaints at all.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:38 (fourteen years ago)
know what we don't know anything about? the next level(s) down from gus in this massive operation -- someone is expecting a shipment. someone expects to continue raking in meth money, and someone isn't going to be able to do that, so someone is going to be kinda mad. everyone who works for him is going to be mad.
who are these people? what are they going to do? this could also be part of season 5 but who knows.
― Art Arfons (La Lechera), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:40 (fourteen years ago)
I don't get people who are trying to make out he was a great character cos he had one mildly amusing line. He served his purpose.
― Number None, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:40 (fourteen years ago)
whoever said he looked more like a madonna backup dancer than a thug was otm, his eye rolling routine was p lol tho imho

he was an entertaining supporting character. i may be overstating it, but the idea that the writers "didn't develop his character enough" or wtv is just silly to me
