excerpt from a documentary about foxconn workers.

conditions at foxconn not quite as bad as the media made it out to be. but still heartbreaking. I can't quite bring myself to condemn foxconn. life is hard, terrible in China if you are poor.

lol, I assume that includes being rude to people and rejecting philanthropy

Autumn Almanac (Schlafsack), Monday, 10 October 2011 00:32 (fourteen years ago)

holding public philanthropy up as an absolute necessity kind of devalues the concept, dontcha think?

The Minnesota company that makes the black mock turtleneck that former Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs made famous is donating $20 to the American Cancer Society for every one it sells.

While St. Croix Collections sells more than 20 colors of the turtleneck, the company said Friday the donation will be paid only when the $175 sweater is bought in black — the color Jobs wore just about every time he was seen in public.

The announcement came a day after the founder of the Winona-based company told the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal that sales of the turtlenecks had doubled since Jobs died Wednesday at the age of 56.

that is a very expensive sweater. But then Steve Jobs was very rich.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 10 October 2011 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

I mean, his choice in who crafted physical objects for him was right-on but the dude didn't really have a definitive personal style other than a lack of putting effort into his personal style

mansion with no furniture -> jeans/new balance/turtleneck were his trademarks

his brilliance was as a taskmaster

( ) (mh), Monday, 10 October 2011 21:33 (fourteen years ago)

right, but you can't tell me the guy didn't have the aura of apple design about him and that it wasn't part of his appeal imo--especially as the guy who had a second coming that revolutionized the company and brought about the products that design people jizz over.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 10 October 2011 21:35 (fourteen years ago)

how was he a shiny product? like, his career or his personal life or his ability to make good stuff at the end of his life?

( ) (mh), Monday, 10 October 2011 21:37 (fourteen years ago)

Nice work in Chicago--glass windows of the Apple Store covered with multicolored Post-It notes, each with a personal wish. Crowd outside snapping photos (silent snaps).

"mansion with no furniture"
bill gates mansion is an unmanageable mess of feature creep that even martha stewart warned about.
