All Things Considered was the first place I ever heard Spice Girls.

My NPR station doesn't even play music anymore, so.

gotta get NPR2 for that now

witchho (zachlyon), Friday, 7 October 2011 17:08 (fourteen years ago)

this ep was so funny i forgot it was a 22-minute ad for the book tie-in

also pretty good use of chris, actually having him as part of the gang and not just a stationary character who pops up a few times an episode.

witchho (zachlyon), Friday, 7 October 2011 17:09 (fourteen years ago)

lol I'd forgotten that was going to be an actual buyable book.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 7 October 2011 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't even realize the book was an actual artifact until I read another review that cast the whole show in light of it.

the tax avocado (DJP), Friday, 7 October 2011 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

I had to take my little sister to buy the book the day it came out. She's really enjoying it, but she's also an obsessed fangirl, so. I was surprised that we were able to find a copy at Target, since the show's ratings would suggest it's pretty aimed at a pretty small audience.

lite-brite phrenology (reddening), Friday, 7 October 2011 18:32 (fourteen years ago)

Like did the Community soundtrack ever make it into brick and mortar stores? Maybe it did, idk.

lite-brite phrenology (reddening), Friday, 7 October 2011 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

Books in general are aimed at a pretty small audience these days.

DaTruf (Nicole), Friday, 7 October 2011 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

I've loved this show since early on in the second season but I've never posted in this thread before. I had to come see if everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. That was probably my favourite episode since the one when they all got wasted on Snake Juice. Everyone was used so well even Ann and Ben. Ron and April's relationship is one my favourite aspects of the show, the Lester scene was indeed a perfect little moment.

I'm completely in awe of Chris Pratt after reading that he improvised the "Network connectivity problems" line, that could be my favourite moment from the entire show.

I liked the story AP told on WTF about Chris Pratt being a funny door-to-door salesman in Hawaii. He knocked on Tia Carrera's door, who told him he should go to Hollywood and act.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 8 October 2011 17:57 (fourteen years ago)

no seriously, I don't think much of this season so far--seems like there are different writers or something, I'm just not feeling it.

It seems the same to me. Still great.

Waxahachie Swap (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 14 October 2011 00:32 (fourteen years ago)

Related a little too much to Ben's despondence at his sandwich card being expired before he could get a meatball sub (this happens to me too often, most recent was a Chik-Fil-A card) as well as Ron saying "Correct!" when the kids responded that they didn't have dietary constrictions (a week after a gluten-free no-lactose vegetarian birthday in Malibu, because of course that's where it was)

billy, Friday, 14 October 2011 04:24 (fourteen years ago)

Don't know how I feel about Ben being revealed this season as an actual Comic-Con-type nerd, rather than just a slightly dorky accountant. I always thought Tom's usage of "nerd" in reference to Ben was funny in part b/c Ben wasn't actually *that* much of a nerd, but someone like Tom would think he was.

But crying Batman was <3

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 14 October 2011 14:10 (fourteen years ago)

Also, I love when Donna gets more screen time than just a couple cutaways. She's so amazing.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 14 October 2011 14:13 (fourteen years ago)

I loved Leslie's ad for Swansons...and Andy going nuts over puppy party!

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 14 October 2011 14:14 (fourteen years ago)

Andy's reads during the Goddess oath are amazing.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Friday, 14 October 2011 14:23 (fourteen years ago)

It's amazing to me that this feels like the fizziest, zippiest show on tv but it also feels like the most emotionally rich one (now that FNL is gone). Obviously a lot of it depends on your engagement with the characters, and certainly some things are funny on their own, but when people talk about how "smart" P&R is I think they're responding to the craft of the thing, and how hard it is to have a payoff be both comedic and emotional. Ben crying in a Batman costume is funny because a) sight-gag and then b) he is a nerd so duh, but then c) it is also cathartic even in its absurdity, and genuinely moving. It's so weird when people talk about Adam Scott being wasted on this show, because I feel like that scene had to be one of the hardest and meatiest things to play as an actor, generating laughs and pathos at the same time. And it's all down to writers and performer having the basic nuts & bolts of this character down pat; craft isn't sexy, but it's more impressive, and it's why I prefer this show over the hipper snazzier ones.

Same thing happened in miniature w/ Jerry's sort of surprised kinda delighted little sigh at being hugged, like a "oh this is what it feels like, how nice!"

anyway tldr but the kids were fantastic too, esp the boy who just wanted the candy and the girl who made the Gertrude stein who was then aghast at Ron saying public forums were pointless but showed up to be one of the Swansons anyway.

billy, Friday, 14 October 2011 16:49 (fourteen years ago)

Thought several of the characters were a little "off" in this ep... it seemed oddly out-of-character that Ron's activities were so dull, leslie wasn't more inclusive of the boys, and Chris was so creepy.

Probably underlining the hints last season that it's okay to pick on Jerry because he has the best home life of anyone. Nice touch imo. The rest of the episode, meh.

Whose babbys would be funnier: Anna Faris/Chris Pratt or Arnett/Poehler?
