so we just skipping over lisa lampanelli hmmmm lol. she kinda conforms to the best-case-scenario of what i thought she was really like as a person and their rapport and comedy shoptalk made for a damn good show
― tremendoid, Thursday, 6 October 2011 23:16 (fourteen years ago)
thought the jon hamm show was boring but i never watched mad men
― tremendoid, Thursday, 6 October 2011 23:18 (fourteen years ago)
I love Mad Men and Jon Hamm, but I have to admit that that episode mostly coasted on Hamm's general likeability.
― jaymc, Thursday, 6 October 2011 23:36 (fourteen years ago)
Didn't intentionally skip over Lisa's episode, thread-wise. I just didn't think about posting when she was on. You're right, though. I like her a lot more now after her convo with Maron than I did before I heard it.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 6 October 2011 23:56 (fourteen years ago)
I turned off her episode.
― polyphonic, Friday, 7 October 2011 00:07 (fourteen years ago)
xp i was just playing i heard it by 'accident' anyway. my sensibilities are back safely under glass
― tremendoid, Friday, 7 October 2011 00:15 (fourteen years ago)
The Lampanelli one weirded me out when she asked "Do you think I'll go down in history as one of the all time greats?" and I was asking, "Who the heck are you?"
― President Keyes, Friday, 7 October 2011 01:01 (fourteen years ago)
I didn't even listen to that one because I think Lampanelli's gross.
― DaTruf (Nicole), Friday, 7 October 2011 01:12 (fourteen years ago)
all time great what? comedy central roasters?
― Mordy, Friday, 7 October 2011 01:21 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah I don't get her.
― Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 7 October 2011 01:24 (fourteen years ago)
I saw some slivers of humanity in her, so whatever. I liked it and liked her on the show.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 7 October 2011 01:26 (fourteen years ago)
yeah and marc toootally bs'ed her w/o skipping a beat the way one enthusiastically says YES i WILL be at yr party next week

Lampanelli (who I like anyway) was another good piece in the mosaic that is Marc Maron facing his past. It's what makes this podcast a little like an HBO serial. He talked in one or two earlier podcasts about how angry she was when she was teaching, and so now she gets her say.
― per metal injection (Eazy), Saturday, 8 October 2011 16:49 (fourteen years ago)
that's the flimsiest excuse for a thinkpiece ever. "what, 3 neurotic, self-deprecating comedians all made jokes about being in bad shape? I SMELL A TREND COMING ON!"
just imagine if that writer ever discovers jim gaffigan
xpost

I've only ever heard of Lisa Lampanelli bcz of the first time she was on WTF
― front-man for British post-punk turned pop chart-topper’s, Scritti Polliti (sic), Sunday, 9 October 2011 00:32 (fourteen years ago)
I only heard of her recently when watching clips of the disastrous Chevy Chase roast.
― per metal injection (Eazy), Sunday, 9 October 2011 03:50 (fourteen years ago)
everything i've heard by lampanelli was so painfully unfunny it made me feel embarrassed for her

listened to the Lampanelli ep this afternoon and loooooool at her plaintively asking if Maron believes that she'll be thought of as "one of the greats" after she dies
― front-man for British post-punk turned pop chart-topper’s, Scritti Polliti (sic), Sunday, 9 October 2011 10:19 (fourteen years ago)
i guess comedians love her? idgi
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 9 October 2011 16:12 (fourteen years ago)
the norm interview was totally endearing
― hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Thursday, 20 October 2011 14:34 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, Norm was great classic WTF.
― sean gramophone, Thursday, 20 October 2011 14:51 (fourteen years ago)
he still creeps me out
― mizzell, Thursday, 20 October 2011 14:52 (fourteen years ago)
norm or marc?
― the men who glare at stoats (sic), Thursday, 20 October 2011 23:03 (fourteen years ago)
norm
― mizzell, Thursday, 20 October 2011 23:05 (fourteen years ago)
Loved the Norm interview. Thought the spirituality discussion was fascinating...when Maron had been talking about Evangelicals earlier in the interview and Norm steered him off I was like, huh, I didn't know Norm was religious...so it was cool to hear him talk about that. Fucking great conversation between the two of them though. Found Norm very loveable.
Hannibal Burress interview was pretty cool too. He's such a happy, chill kinda dude.
― Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 21 October 2011 01:42 (fourteen years ago)
listened to the stanhope interview last night and wow he comes off as a dick
― Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Friday, 21 October 2011 06:07 (fourteen years ago)
Elaborate? That interview barely left an impression on me. I thought it just sounded like two friends hanging out.
― polyphonic, Friday, 21 October 2011 06:54 (fourteen years ago)
all that libertarian 'hey fuck children and paying taxes and anything else in this world but myself but i'm not selfish honest. also i do jokes about rape fist fucking a girl in their cunt but i don't find it funny'
― Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Friday, 21 October 2011 12:54 (fourteen years ago)
Carrot Top's Yes Man pretty much ruined that interview.
― President Keyes, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 00:32 (fourteen years ago)
agree that guy was horrible but it was prob not going anywhere interesting anyway
― johnny crunch, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 00:44 (fourteen years ago)
Right? I didn't imagine it was going to be anything but superficial, but why the hell did his opener/friend have to defend his honor every five minutes like his mother?
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 01:32 (fourteen years ago)
It was kinda hard to listen to, the level of awkwardness. Co-dependent relationship 101.
― Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 01:33 (fourteen years ago)
The only thing I could think of to explain it is that Carrot Top has one hell of a temper. I mean, why else would this dude be smoothing shit over every 10 seconds. Reminded me of the way I was with my Mum when I was a kid.
― Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 01:35 (fourteen years ago)
I can see that, but I never thought Marc was veering towards being a dick in the interview (except for when dude's prop jokes flatlined in the car on the way over). Carrot Top seemed perfectly at ease taking a few jabs and carrying on. Friend dude probably has some issues of his own.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 01:43 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah that might be more of it. I agre, I didn't get a dickish vibe from Maron either. But there was an awful lot of scurrying going on. Fuckin weird is what that whole thing was.
― Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 01:50 (fourteen years ago)
the norm interview was fucking great. maybe the funniest ep i've heard, but really penetrating too. loved when they tore into roasts.
― The sham nation of Israel should be destroyed. (Princess TamTam), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 20:30 (fourteen years ago)
Carrot Top's pal interrupted too much. Couldn't take it.

I haven't heard this ep but saw Norm live over the summer and he slipped a lot of stuff in his act that made it clear that he's pretty religious, yeah.
Hung out with HB for a bit last year after a show. He got wasted and dished on 30 Rock cast. He was great and indeed very chill and happy.
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 21:51 (fourteen years ago)
Was irrationally hoping that Hannibal would mention that I booked him at a variety show I hosted back in 2004.

That Steve Almond interview was okay, though he has mostly ILM-unfriendly opinions.
― President Keyes, Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:25 (fourteen years ago)
Not even sure who that dude is, so I haven't gotten around to it yet.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:31 (fourteen years ago)
He's a fiction writer, though he also has a book about rock music. And he doesn't like marketing.
― President Keyes, Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:33 (fourteen years ago)
I still don't know who he is even after reading his Wikipedia page.
― polyphonic, Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:33 (fourteen years ago)
And he sneered about Marc getting dragged to an Iron Maiden show.
― President Keyes, Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:34 (fourteen years ago)
almond's a p big idiot, one of those writers who teaches at different writing conferences
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:35 (fourteen years ago)
the one thing I read of his was about how great the foo fighters are in a southwest airlines magazine
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:36 (fourteen years ago)
hah. his stuff against marketing just comes off as juvenile imo
