ah, but the question is- how good is redknapp's dutch?

at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 October 2011 13:18 (fourteen years ago)

He should have a schat with Schteve

Young Swell (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 6 October 2011 13:30 (fourteen years ago)

Redknapp told the Sun: "Rafa is a terrific footballer. He has great skill. But if you're in the team and asked to do a job, really, you should just do it.

"It does seem to be a problem. Rafa can't run back and chase the full-back. Against the better teams it is a problem. His best position is in the middle, playing just behind the front man. The only problem is that Jermain Defoe plays there too and Jermain is playing very, very well at the moment.

"So, I guess I have got a decision to make, haven't I? I suppose it's now between Rafa and Jermain over who plays in the team."

O RLY?

mizzell, Thursday, 6 October 2011 13:55 (fourteen years ago)

Had never considered that vdv and defoe play the same position tbh

pandemic, Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:12 (fourteen years ago)

at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:47 (fourteen years ago)

at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:48 (fourteen years ago)

Juice Should Be Sterliized (Tom D.), Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:52 (fourteen years ago)

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:56 (fourteen years ago)

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:58 (fourteen years ago)

think that not posting the recent 'rodwellgate' into the clusterfuck thread was an opportunity missed btw

at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:59 (fourteen years ago)

Even Pardew can't seem to scupper them

cabaye and tiote is a v good midfield pairing. pardew manager of the yar so far. still think they're liable to go on a 6 match losing streak at some point tho

pandemic, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:00 (fourteen years ago)

newcastle fans complaining about not having a striker after they'd signed ba had me smdh

at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:00 (fourteen years ago)

in 6 mths they've lost their best 4 players? nolan, carroll, enrique, barton. p amazing really. Is the guy who broke his leg last season back yet? er... ben arfa?

pandemic, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:01 (fourteen years ago)

Ben Arfa is fit but i don't think he's first choice yet

Number None, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:04 (fourteen years ago)

ba is p much the best striker not named aguero

wait really?

mizzell, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:07 (fourteen years ago)

Ben Arfa played against Forest in the Carling Cup, came on against Blackburn, and was an unused sub at Wolves.

at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:12 (fourteen years ago)

a 'ticking time bomb' acc to Pulis iirc

boxall, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

pulis feels that way about all strikers, hence standing orders for his midfielders to deliver the ball from a safe distance of min. 40 yards

at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:23 (fourteen years ago)

Demba looks really good and prolific and all that but he's no Suarez or whatever. He and Best together could be great, still feel like Newcastle themselves could take a couple of big beatings and then implode for a while, but they'll be top half I reckon.

Alan Pardew is a fuckwit though. I remember after the first Newcastle game of the season he said he took Ba off because he wasn't getting a pass. Had he seriously not worked out how to get his players to pass to their expensive and prolific new striker by then? And then he left him on the bench for several games.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:29 (fourteen years ago)

maybe it was a veiled hint to the player to do more to get on the end of it?

I'm not sure that pardew is all that bad, tbph.

at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

wonder if one or both of Sow and Cisse will move to England and how they compare to Ba (Sengal are stacked with 26 year old strikers)

mizzell, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

ok yeah aguero > suarez > ba > rvp > dzeko > chicarito

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:36 (fourteen years ago)

Think Cisse is better than Ba tbh. I rate him v highly, perhaps too highly.

a lol lol

at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:40 (fourteen years ago)

Moussa Sow impressed me v much the 3-4 times I saw Lille play last season, always much more than Gervinho, though their roles were different.

boxall, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

forgot Robson's glorious Man U career during the 80s that saw them 4 times division 1 winners and a couple of European Cup wins too

Impeccable logic. By the same token I assume that (off the top of my head) Fabregas, Gerrard, Le Tissier and Shearer are/were a bag of shite, whereas David May is one of the all-time greats.

Robson's United career for the first half of the 80s largely consisted of him more or less single-handedly keeping the team in contention, then inevitably getting injured (again) and watching the team collapse without him (again).

as the fourth best premier league striker of his era

Number None, Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

behind Drogba, Torres, one of Tevez/CRon/Rooney?

boxall, Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

as the man who brought the title to Man City?

iirc fuckwit pardew was also blaming ba's form on ramadan even though a/ it finished like a month earlier and b/ it hadnt seemed to bother edin dzeko much

r|t|c, Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:13 (fourteen years ago)

i was referring to a hoy hoy's ranking above

Number None, Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:13 (fourteen years ago)

nor fukn rooney neither

He's behind drogba, alright. Injuries taken into account, though, he's sadly not near fourth.

at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

lol rtc dzeko is white you merked urself

ok fair point, i'll concede Robson was perhaps one of those players who is well short of international class but a talismanic figure for their club. like Gerrard, Lampard etc.

Dios mio! This kid is FUN to hit! (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:16 (fourteen years ago)

that was a 'on todays form' ranking and is why i didnt include drogs.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:16 (fourteen years ago)

And yet you didn't include the premier league's top scorer? Hmmmm

Number None, Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

on today's form it's adebayor, vdv, defoe, rvp

at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:19 (fourteen years ago)

premierships top goalscorer is a plucky right back tho?

so sick of the pro-rooney bias around here

Describing his transfer on Deadline Day, he said: "It was very stressful. At 6pm, they said everything had broken down. Then, at 8.30pm, everything started again. But there wasn't time to have a medical. I went to the offices of the club (Everton) and from there I told Arsenal to trust me and that if some medical problem was found it would be my responsibility."

boxall, Thursday, 6 October 2011 18:40 (fourteen years ago)

Such was the interest in the little Peruvian that his first appearance in a black and white shirt for Newcastle reserves resulted in the kick off being delayed to accommodate the large crowd, many of whom had been delayed after a lorry had shed its load blocking one of the major routes into the city. Solano justified the turnout with a goal.

While the most objectionable people at Chelsea used to be kept in the stands, with John Terry they broke onto the pitch. JT, the white man who had a fruity discussion with the black Ledley King during a sending off, he’s their icon. Their Cantona, the man with the intrinsic emotional bond between player and supporters. A humble man who considered a fitting tribute to Guus Hiddink to be, ‘he kept in touch with me – which shows the measure of the man,’ without irony. This is their icon, who abused his position as club and England captain – no apology yet. Mr Chelsea, who supposedly put the knife in Mourinho’s back. Like Chelsea overall, he carries the unearned air of knowledge and civility, only to out himself as charmless and self-regarding. There are two types of cunt in this world, everyone else, and those who are John Terry.
