Speaking of sweet potatoes, I tried the sp gnocchi (frozen section) a few months ago and it was pretty bad. But the butternut squash pasta (ravioli?) in the refrigerator section is very good. I had it with olive oil and garlic, no red sauce.

the sweet potato gnocchi tasted pretty good as a sample but i can def. see how it would get old fast.

not putting salsa into a small salsa bowl for eating is disgusting savagery!
― Art Arfons (La Lechera), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 01:11 (fourteen years ago)
ya xp ive used the sweet potato chips crushed over some soft tacos i made w/ feta & a vinegrette as ingredients so the sweetness & texture went well w/ the bitter i think

have admit that I've been spooning salsa into a bowl lately but that's cause of the narrow neck
problem: portion control. spoon too little and you're respooning every 5th chip. spoon too much and you feel obligated to overload the chip or to waste salsa. nobody's suggesting that the leftover salsa be poured back into the jar, are we gentle men and women?
― (╯°□°)╯︵ mode squad) (dayo), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 01:18 (fourteen years ago)
you could spoon salsa individually onto each chip, you dainty little man
― congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 01:19 (fourteen years ago)
that was rude and i apologize.
― congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 01:22 (fourteen years ago)
just use mindwaves to get the salsa onto the chip and the chip into your mouth and you will find that it's easy to keep your hands/bowls clean
― Art Arfons (La Lechera), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 01:22 (fourteen years ago)
I am interested in those espresso pillows. Do they have any of that bitty grainy texture that normal coffee beans have? I can't stand that.
― kinder, Wednesday, 5 October 2011 01:24 (fourteen years ago)
oh wait "but they lack the grit of actual beans"
― kinder, Wednesday, 5 October 2011 01:25 (fourteen years ago)
they are less gritty. but i like the grit of the regular beans!
― ms. c flat (get bent), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 01:28 (fourteen years ago)
some salsas are so good i can eat them with a spoon. but mostly they are the salsas i make on my own

roasted tomato salsa is way too sweet. i doctored it w/ a splash of hot sauce and vinegar but ew.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 5 October 2011 03:18 (fourteen years ago)
I don't want to put salsa in a bowl and dirty up a bowl.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 5 October 2011 03:46 (fourteen years ago)
When I lived at home I always used a bowl for salsa. I continued doing that when I moved to my own place, but eventually when I started to pick up dirtbaggy loner habits that went out the window.
― heavy vibes at the estate sale (los blue jeans), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:31 (fourteen years ago)
is there a special bowl for salsa or is it just a regular bowl repurposed [via bricolage and other french post modernist theories] for salsa

shopped at TJ's twice now
very bizarre experience, it's like living inside a very boring RPG
haven't really checked out a lot of their products aside from generic stuff (meats and cheeses and what not)
― yung huma (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:35 (fourteen years ago)
if y'all had POV or POX TJ products, that would be kinda dope
you could pretend to be authentic and put it in a molcajete.

― yung huma (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:48 (fourteen years ago)
idk the thing about TJ's is that it's just basic things (like peanut butter or olive oil) done right - no additives, weird chemicals, minimal preservatives, at a price comparable to conglomerate labels. and they're not afraid to try new shit.
― (╯°□°)╯︵ mode squad) (dayo), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:49 (fourteen years ago)
lmao @ trader joe's employees as boring RPG characters

haha - I don't quite understand, but my gut says OTM.
― Je55e, Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:50 (fourteen years ago)
i actually was going to ask, since i kind of didn't feel like doing the research
it's no bullshit that TJ's meat & produce are "better" than the shit you'd get at a normal grocery store, right? i'm justified in going to two grocery stores so i can get healthy, quality products at TJ (while buying goldfish and shit at the normal grocery store)
― yung huma (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:50 (fourteen years ago)
I would play a Trader Joe's RPG.

― iatee, Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:52 (fourteen years ago)
i just meant that everyone is very cheery & happy and all of the products are essentially made up
i guess "it's like 'the sims irl'" would be a more accurate description than "boring RPG"
― yung huma (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:52 (fourteen years ago)
no, the final boss is the checkout cashier who engages you in super friendly conversation
― (╯°□°)╯︵ mode squad) (dayo), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:53 (fourteen years ago)
nu'uh jord - trader joe's is the place where the dope goldfish and shit is, the healthier produce and whatever you find elsewhere
― iatee, Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:53 (fourteen years ago)
it's kinda more like you're the final boss, because you get to say "i'm walking this home, so you better figure out a way to fit all this shit in two bags"
― yung huma (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:54 (fourteen years ago)
both times i've been to TJ's it's been after work & i've been kinda tired and just wanted to get my shit and get out so i haven't spent tons of time just strolling the isles looking at stuff
― yung huma (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:55 (fourteen years ago)
haha I totally
a. went to trader joe's today b. asked someone to fit it in two bags
― iatee, Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:55 (fourteen years ago)
It might be interesting to visit TJ while shrooming. But really, the ultimate would be to do it at Ikea. Pretty sure it would be unbearable. xp
more xps - I like TJ for having cheap rice milk, goat cheese, and frozen chicken breasts, and a bunch of yummy convenience foods. I don't know about the "healthiness," since a lot of the convenience stuff is pretty loaded with sodium, which is, sadly a concern for me now (not that that concern has resulted in an iota of change in my eating habits.)
xp again - exactly
― Je55e, Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:56 (fourteen years ago)
basically by healthy i mean that they're not feeding their cows chicken shit & stuff
― yung huma (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:57 (fourteen years ago)
Oh.....yeh, they project the kind of image that would suggest that, but I dunno.
― Je55e, Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:58 (fourteen years ago)
they probably are tho

Things I go out of my way to get @ TJs: coffee, wine, frozen samosas, chili mango popsicles, cheese, meat, frozen puff pastry (seasonal, sadly)
― Art Arfons (La Lechera), Thursday, 6 October 2011 02:08 (fourteen years ago)
I just got frozen veggie samosas!
their coffee is pretty good for what it is, but I wish they would offer more beans in medium roast and not medium dark roast
