Apologies is if this has already been speculated, but isn't it possible that Jesse just fucked up w/ replacing the ricin butt and the kid hasn't actually been poisoned at all? That Jesse is having a (justifiably) paranoid breakdown? Do we have any confirmation from the hospital that he has really been poisoned? Seems the only dignified way out of this for the writers—Gus and Walt would both suspect the other of poisoning the kid....

I think that's totally plausible.

yeah me too except if the mum told the docs that maybe it was ricin they'd check and see it wasn't and then she'd not glower at jesse I suppose *except* if the glower if purely because he maybe has put her son at risk in any way even in a way that she doesn't actually know anything about

Yeah he probably had a brain fart and the cigarette pack with the ricin is actually in his other jacket.

Also, if you tell doctors that you think someone has been poisoned with ricin, and they have symptoms that line up with that, they're going to call the police!

maybe tyrus is a cop and that's how he knew jesse was at the hospital - they called him!

Though I admit for a second during the slow pan through Walt's condo I thought all the mess by the sink was drying baby bottles in a rack. And not, you know, ingredients for an IED.

i rewatched the jesse scenes to see about the cigarette

When Jesse walks to his car, when he takes out his keys, something falls out of his pocket but it disappears before it hits the ground. Probably a production error.

When Jesse gets frisked, the bodyguard is focused on his pockets and puts something in his own pocket immediately afterwards.

They certainly seem to have put in enough clues to make you think Walt is potentially behind at least. The frisking, along with the gun pointing to the plant and Walt's "waaaitaminute" expression

I thought he was spinning it like a roulette wheel but disliking the results every time it pointed to him. So he kept spinning it until it pointed somewhere else. Because for all his bravado, Walt is kind of cowardly.

I read the gun-spinning thing as Walt toying with the idea of suicide, especially if his cancer is coming back. And like Sky, he keeps spinning til he gets the "answer" he wants.

No. Even if there were such a thing as a "ricin plant" it's not like anybody watching the show knows that that looks like!

I do agree that the way the camera shot is set up, walt looks at something and there is a pan to where the gun is pointing but it was not clear what it was

Ricin comes from castor beans -- I used to grow a castor plant at each of the four corners of my garden when I lived in a location that had a lot of moles and gophers.

Number None, I watched the show just like you, but I didn't even notice Walt's house plant. So to me, it didn't mean anything to Walt. It would be an incredibly subtle reference, and by my lights wayyyyyy too below the radar to effectively convey anything. Just one cutaway close-up of the plant would be enough to establish that the plant was important, but they didn't do that.

i inferred from that scene simply:

walt: "what should i do? kill myself?"
universe: "no, kill someone OUT THERE."

the camera work is pretty leading but then again this show has a track record with troubled camera tracking... there was so much debate over the final shot of s3 that gilligan had to make a statement about it iirc
